Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast, Hey It's Delilah
all week. This week we are going to be sharing
(00:22):
what we are most thankful for on Hey It's Delilah.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Hi, you've called the Delilah Show. Who is this?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
This is Tracy Patton Colin. I've been blessed by I've
been adopted by a business for a year, and I
was temporarily homeless, and I finally got my Social Security
through because I'm legally blind. And this business is still
helping me get on my feet with two boys, ages
(00:54):
eight and fifteen. And if it wasn't for these two people,
I would still be either in a shelter or living
week by week in a motel. And I'd like to
say thank you to Patricia Donahue and David Blake for
help me keep my two boys together.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
And how old are you boys?
Speaker 3 (01:19):
My youngest one is eight and he has Down syndrome,
and my oldest one is fifteen. And these two people
were nice enough to help you get into an apartment
just so that the three of us could stay together.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
So these good Samaritans loved you unconditionally and helped you
out as their own.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yes, and missus Blake, her husband is my oldest son's
guidance counselor at school. Wow, and he referred us to
his wife because he thought we were deserve it enough
to be adopted out by a business for a year.
And through the grace of God, these two people, and
(02:04):
they're still helping me keep my two kids together with
me as long as my eyesight will let me keep
them well.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
How old your oldest son fifteen?
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Both are well mannered, they'd better be well.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
They have a good mama that even though you've had
some trials and tribulations, I can tell you love them
fiercely and you would do anything to keep them well
and together and as a family.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Hi, Erica, what can I do for you?
Speaker 5 (02:44):
I started to listen to you ten years ago when
I was working in the emergency room, you know, and
you've always sort of been there when I least expected it.
I spent three years really really ill, and the five
years since have been happiest five years of my life.
You know, you get to a point where you think
to yourself, you know, am I going to let life
(03:05):
pass me by or go Are you really really happy
that spent the days doing the things that you really
want to do with the people you really want to
do them with. I live the kind of life that
I'm supposed to live, blessing me with all the people
that I really really cared most about. They spent my
evening with my best friend in the world, who just
reminds me how great it is to be built up
by people who really really care about you. I guess
I would just like to dedicate asi to theolife who
(03:27):
is the best friend that a girl could ever asked for.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
So you said three years being sick, and I'm assuming
you don't mean with a cold.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Or a flu.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
No, you know, I got sick with Crohn's disease.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Mmmmm.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
I spent about three years.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
At worst, it was like twenty six pills a day.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
That's a lot of medication, and that's a painful, painful disease.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
And you know, every day that I wake up and
I feel healthy, I think to myself, I'm going to
live it to the absolute best of my ability. You know,
I do two hundred mile bike rides and as kayaks
thirty miles and every day that I wake up and
I'm healthy, I'm just so thankful. My life has been
absolutely amazingly blessed since, not just by the things that
I've been able to accomplish, but by the people who've
(04:13):
been by my side. Well I've done it.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Yeah, That's what makes life worth living are the friends
and the experiences and the relationships formed.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
My family's been absolutely amazing. You know, just when I
when I need the most, they come out of the woodwork.
And it's not like, you know, Erica, something's wrong. It's hey,
you know I was thinking of you. Why don't you
come on over.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Well, hang on to that happiness and spread a little
bit of it around, and I will do my best
to celebrate the joy and the love in your life.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
All right, take care, good night, honey, Hi Angela, This
is Delilah.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
Hi.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
How are you.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
I'm good? How are you?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
I understand you're smiling a lot.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
I am What are you doing that's making you smile
from ear to ear?
Speaker 6 (05:13):
I just got married Saturday to the most wonderful man
on earth, and I'm on my honeymoon, kind of honeymoon.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
And while you're on your kind of honeymoon, you're taking
the time to call me.
Speaker 7 (05:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
Wow, I'm ecstatic and I want to call you guys
and just tell everybody.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
So tell me who you married and why you're so excited.
Speaker 6 (05:38):
Well, his name is Brandon. He's absolutely wonderful and the
complete opposite of what I would ever imagine myself with,
but the most perfect person for me to be with.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Okay, tell me why you think you would never have
imagined this?
Speaker 6 (05:53):
Totally explain. He's the type of person that will do
absolutely anything in every thing to make sure that I'm
okay and that I'm happy and never fails me.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
And why wouldn't you think you would be with somebody
like that?
Speaker 6 (06:11):
Because I picked the bad guys.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Oh, so you have a broken picker outer?
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, but now you fixed that.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
I did good for you.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
And you sound very young.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
How old are you twenty three?
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:26):
See, at twenty three, I still had a broken picker outer.
At thirty three, I mine was still very broken at
forty three, you know it still wasn't working quite right. Yeah,
So good for you for figuring it out so young.
Speaker 6 (06:45):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (06:52):

Speaker 7 (06:56):
I am doing wonderful, So I hear you.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Have a great adoption story to share with us.
Speaker 7 (07:01):
Oh, yes I do. My sister and I were adopted
twenty we I was three years old and she was
had just turned one. And it's amazing. And I've had
some hard times and stuff, but I can't imagine where
I'd be without my parents.
Speaker 8 (07:18):
And I'm nineteen and sorry I'm hearing. My parents are amazing.
I've given them a lot of hard times and rough tes.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Okay, what's the toughest thing. What's the hardest thing you
put your folks through?
Speaker 8 (07:34):
I don't even know, just like snopping back to them
and saying mean things to them, telling them my mom them,
you know, just teenage stough fun.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Did you ever use the line you're not my real
mom anyway?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
I have, Yes, you have, Yes you have.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Every adoptive parent hears that at least once between the
age of thirteen and seventeen.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
With their child.
Speaker 8 (07:59):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
Sure, you know what I said to mine when they
said that, What did you say? I said, Honey, I'm
as real as a heart attack.
Speaker 8 (08:09):
I'm starting to realize that so much more. Know I've
been touched so much with your show.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
I was almost thirty years old before I came to
my senses and realized my parents weren't ogres.
Speaker 8 (08:20):
Yeah, I'm trying. I mean it's so hard sometimes.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Well, but you are. You're maturing, and you're realizing that
parents are humans. We make mistakes, but they love you unconditionally.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yes they do.
Speaker 8 (08:32):
So I'm at home right now and I guess it
just kind of hit me, and luckily enough I was
able to get into you tonight.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
So yeah, so we will celebrate your success and tell
your mom and dad how much you love them.
Speaker 8 (08:42):
Okay, thank you.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I'm proud of you, honey.
Speaker 8 (08:45):
Thank you.
