Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Jeff Kate Pearson of the B fifty two's, how
you doing.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm great, I'm doing good, awesome.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Well, congratulations on your new solo material as well as
the B fifty two's Devo tour. You've got quite an
exciting year.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Pretty much. It's been an exciting year thus far as well,
because we've been we did our Vegas tour, I've done
some solo shows. I'm going to do one at Provincetown
August twenty ninth at Provincetowntown Hall and another one in Salisbury,
Connecticut on August twenty seventh. We've got the Devo tour.
We just played in Mexico City at the Chicat Music Festival.

(00:38):
The B fifty twos. We did the FNL fiftieth anniversary. Yes,
and we shared a dressing room with Stevo as we
decided to do a tour with them. So it's been
pretty pretty active.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yeah, no kidding.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
And of course you've had this amazing, storied career, and
I think it's so great that you know, here we are,
all these years later, after listening to rock Lobster and
of course love Shack and Home and all those great
songs that here we are, You've got solo material. People
still probably even more fans now for the B fifty
two's and Kate Pearson than forty years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
I mean, who knew we would still be together. We
still miraculously love each other, have fun together out still,
and you know, it's a joy when we get together,
especially when we're not. I mean the years on the
road can be wearing, right for sure, But we stuck
it out, and we stuck together and we still we're
still having fun.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
That's what it's all about, for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Talking to Kate Pearson here of the B fifty twos
and a new single call a single called Pillow Queen,
And what a fun fun song. One listen, you're like
humming along, singing along, and it's just a really fun song.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Right. I just wanted something vibe, and I reached out
to this artist, bright Light. Bright Light. He had such
a positive vibe and I reached out on Instagram and
he responded, did the remix, and it's so I was
so happy the way he did it was started out
with right, yes, really for summer, we need something positive

(02:10):
for this summer because so much crazy stuff is happening,
all this crazy shit is going on and we need
something to keep us focused.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
On the positive. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
I listened to it one time and I was then
I was walking around through the office going and I
was like, wait, that's okay, that's that's Kate Pearson saw that.
I was just listening to immediately catchy and I like
how it was described as surf rock bounce grounded by
dub rhythms. That I'm like, okay, well I got to
hear this and then you listen to it, it's like, yeah,

(02:39):
it's it.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
That's a that's a great description.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Wow, Yeah, got it all in there.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yes, yes, it does radios and rainbows and the new
single is called Pillow Queen. As we talked to Kate
Pearson of the B fifty two's, I know you mentioned
the SNL fiftieth you know, anniversary slash reunion earlier this year.
Did you you know you and obviously Devo were there
and performed. Was that literally like, you guys are in
the same dressing room and you just said why don't

(03:05):
we tour together?

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yes, I mean we shared the dressing room. They were
putting their red hats and we started talking and our
manager was there and he talked to them and their
manager and it just was decided.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Well, that's pretty awesome, you know, two iconic bands coming together. Now,
did you guys ever tour together back in the day
at all or will this be the first time that
you're that you're doing some dates together.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
This is the first time we've toured with Divo. Back
in the day, we used to party with them at
the Mud Club. We started out in New York, going
to the New York City from Athens to play that.
We would hang with all these bands Talking Heads and
Blondie and Television and Normones and Devo so followed, you know,
with them. Our trajectory has been the same all these years,

(03:51):
and now we're going to tour with them, but we
never had We've got some individual shows with them.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
That's funny, cool.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
So it's gonna be really exciting. I mean, two really
intense stands. It's gonna be so fun.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I love the title Cosmic de Evolution Tour. And you
know when you think that you guys have, like you said,
known each other and partied and hung out together, but
have never toured together. Eleven dates kickoff September twenty fourth
in Toronto, and then of course many dates in the
US that is a must see for sure. And obviously, Kate,

(04:25):
with your solo material and the B fifty twos, it
does sound like you're still having a blast.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yeah. I mean, it's amazing that we can be together
all these years, still have fun together and still rock out.
And I feel like even when I perform rock Lobster
on stage with the B fifty twos, it feels like
almost new because watching the audience dance and have so
much fun. It's great that they're having fun and bringing

(04:50):
some joy to the audience and we're still rocking out.
So yeah, it's all a good mix.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
It's a very good vibe. I saw you for the
first time. I guess this might have been maybe the
end of the Cosmic Thing tour. It was very very
early nineties, so it was probably that tour went on
for a year or two.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Right, Oh, yeah, that was about a little over a
year and a half. Yeah, that we started out because
they weren't going to play love Shack was a weird song,
and of course college radio and independent radio saved us
and they started playing it and it's caught on like wildfire,
and we started playing smaller places and then larger places,

(05:31):
and then we went to bigger places, went to Australia
and New Zealand, so it just really caught on and
that tour was long. It was amazing.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Yeah, I saw you guys at an outdoor amphitheater and
it was so much fun.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
We took a bunch of listeners there.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
And then more recently, I don't know, probably fifteen years ago,
we had you here in Dayton, Ohio at the phrase Pavilion,
an outdoor show with Blondie, and that was so epic
to have you both because I don't know that you
were doing a whole lot of maybe you were doing
a tour with them that summer, but I thought that,

(06:06):
you know, it was just a few dates or something,
but it was. But we had you here. It was
you know, Blondie and B fifty two. Is that that
was a very iconic night. Wow.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah, we've done a lot of touring with We've done
tours with Blondie a few times, and the Pretenders and
Siggy Marley and Tears for Fears. We've just done tours
with so many different artists and it's fun doing that.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Yeah, it was, especially when it's kind of.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
A double bill.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yes, well, and you're looking at you know, just just
hearing realizing all of the hits because you know, as
you said, some people are hearing rock Lobster or Private
Idaho or something like that for the first time, and
then other folks have been you know, living it for
for forty years. So you've got everybody coming together like that.
That's so much fun.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Well, one great thing is I see a lot of
young people in the audience and not you know, with
their parents, and they were, so.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
That means they have cool parents, right yeah, but it.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Also mean that young people are listening. I think everything's
at their fingertips now with streaming, so there's really no
time limit on things.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Absolutely, no, you're that's that's very very true.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
And uh and I know, you know, having two kids
in my in their twenties that they grew up listening
to a lot of stuff that I was listening to.
And so they've you know, they've hung they have their
own they have their own stuff that they like, of course,
but they also you know, like what mom and dad
likes too, which I think is pretty sweet.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Well, you raised them, right, that's right.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Well, Kate, it was really nice talking to you.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Check out the new single Pillow Queen from her second
solo album, Radios and Rainbows, and we'll look forward to
seeing you with the UH. With the devo guys UH
for those eleven dates starting September twenty fourth in Toronto.
Kate Pearson B fifty two's and a great new solo song.
Have a wonderful rest of the summer.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Kate, thank you, thanks you too. Okay, bye bye to
do
