One little uh you know, like one little five hour.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Window, and I really kind of a four hour window
because we don't get started until seven. Angelique, we already
had one thousand dollars any more donation since the last since.
Speaker 6 (01:26):
That, yes, we have a total of thirteen ninety five.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (01:32):
Yeah, thirteen ninety five and just a couple of what
maybe ten minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
How's that happen? That's great?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Okay, all right, See I told my you weren't here
for this, but I was saying, I got to tell
myself not to freak out, you know, by eight o'clock
or so, because last year we didn't have enough money.
Speaker 8 (01:46):
He's freaking He's totally freaking out.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
No, I'm fine.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Yeah, it's kind of like the bikes. You we're freaking
out the hot second.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
I was freaking out. Yeah, but it ends up coming.
We end up getting it at the end. The last
year we raised twenty four thousand dollars, so i'd liked
to get more than that would be really, really good.
So the idea this year is we're going to give
you guys the best entertainment that we can. Some of
the greatest bands from Central Florida, and we have one
here today that jumped on board thanks to Lady James.
(02:12):
She's like, oh, I know this jazz band and uh
so let's take it away to Amber Nova Amber.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Who do we have here today?
Speaker 9 (02:18):
Thanks Russ.
Speaker 10 (02:19):
I'm standing here with the Jazz Witnesses, son of Lady James.
Speaker 9 (02:23):
Introducing first Xander Hi.
Speaker 8 (02:26):
I'm Xander Hi, Jazz Witnesses.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Amber. You have a question for him?
Speaker 10 (02:34):
Yeah, and introduced all the members Joanna say Hi, hello there,
and Gabby Hi.
Speaker 9 (02:40):
I play guitar.
Speaker 11 (02:43):
So how long have you guys been playing We've been
together as a band for four years, but we've all
separately been playing instruments longer than that.
Speaker 8 (02:49):
I'm sure we all have different numbers.
Speaker 9 (02:53):
And how long have you been playing us? Maybe like
fifteen years? Very talented group of bunch.
Speaker 12 (02:59):
Wait, I think also me, probably like fifteen years.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Wait.
Speaker 8 (03:04):
How old are y'all twenty four years old? Twenty four?
Twenty one?
Speaker 13 (03:10):
Okay? Yeah, yeah, voice?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
What would you ask what made him get into jazz?
It's kind of unusual.
Speaker 9 (03:18):
Okay, what made you guys get into job?
Speaker 11 (03:22):
I think the main reason for me is like the
New Orleans style of jazz.
Speaker 8 (03:26):
I really like that style.
Speaker 13 (03:27):
It's pronounced knowledge.
Speaker 8 (03:29):
Oh gotcha, Well, that kind of stuff. That traditional American ja.
Speaker 11 (03:33):
Jazz is the only American art form that was formed
on this continent.
Speaker 8 (03:37):
I mean, sorry American.
Speaker 11 (03:40):
So like there's obviously indigenous art, but it's the first
American art.
Speaker 8 (03:43):
Form, it's jazz.
Speaker 9 (03:46):
Good answer.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
So I have a question for you I've never heard of.
Speaker 9 (03:52):
And correct me if I'm wrong. What is musking? What
is musky busking?
Speaker 8 (03:57):
It's busking for a big busking.
Speaker 11 (04:02):
Hey, which we all do. The jazz witnesses are are
in favor of doing that. No busking, So we'll we'll
play on the street. If you see people performing on
the street, that's what that's called busking. It's a lot
of artists start that way. Usually, you know, we set
up in various places, usually where there's a farmer's market,
(04:23):
and we set up and we just kind of play
on the street and if people drop money in our case,
you know, we appreciate it.
Speaker 10 (04:30):
So you guys take to the streets of Orlando Winter
Park Area. Any crazy stories about getting kicked out of
the streets.
Speaker 8 (04:36):
Oh yeah, we've been sighted before. I will say this.
Speaker 11 (04:40):
No city that we've been in, besides I guess downtown
has a program, but no city has a program for
public performance. And they try to tell us all, well,
you can't play here. But then they say, well you
need a permit. There's no permits available, so we're not
breaking any rules. They just don't want us there, even
though every every time we've been sighted there's a crowd
around us telling the city official to not let us stop.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
There you go, damn the man.
Speaker 10 (05:04):
If you're enjoying the holiday season, you're enjoying the holiday
music on the streets, give these guys a tip when
they're out there busking.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
There you go, Okay, you can introduce the band now.
Speaker 9 (05:13):
And introducing you guys. Ready to jam? I mean ready to.
Speaker 14 (05:16):
Jazz, guys, ready to jazz your pants.
Speaker 10 (05:21):

Speaker 13 (15:31):

Speaker 2 (15:32):
That is good, you know, for a lone number for
the beginning.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
We got to get the twenty four thousand dollars though,
so you know it's a that's a at least twenty four.
Speaker 13 (15:39):
Thousand dollars seven thirty.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
All right, Daisy del Toro, Who do we have here today?

Speaker 8 (16:02):
Jay, you got to talk loud in this one.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
There you go, ladies and gentlemen. Daisy Toro, what's up everybody?
Speaker 6 (16:09):
All right, I'm Daisy here with Jessica. She is representing
the CEO for the Coalition for the Homeless. She told
me not to ask her any hard questions, so I'm
gonna start with an easy one. Why are you a copycat?
Speaker 12 (16:23):
This the season I showed up with my red shirt.
Daisy and I are marching and we're looking good.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (16:31):
Do you want me to ask her harder questions than that?
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:34):
If you want to, that's fine. You know I could.
I could take it from here if you want me.
Speaker 8 (16:37):
To now, let Daisy do we let the dumb one
do it earlier?
Speaker 10 (16:42):
Why it's okay, Ryan, Ryan knows it's weird.
Speaker 14 (16:47):
How y'all knew who.
Speaker 8 (16:48):
I was talking about?
Speaker 13 (16:49):
Okay, Like I didn't.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Even say his name.
Speaker 9 (16:51):
I wanted to interview someone.
Speaker 16 (16:52):
That's how they could have been yesterday, could have been
a week ago.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
So Jessica, let me ask you a question. Uh, coalition
with the whole list since last year.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
I was looking at some of the stats, and the
last year we helped you out, we had twenty four
thousand dollars. And I always wonder when people give where
does that money go?
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Right?
Speaker 3 (17:07):
And I'm looking here and it says here that in
one year, the Coalition for the Homeless here in Central
Florida has helped two eight hundred and twenty three guests
have permanent housing. What does that mean?
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Permanent housing? What does that mean?
Speaker 5 (17:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (17:21):
Absolutely?
Speaker 13 (17:21):
First?
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (17:22):
Who ring it?
Speaker 12 (17:23):
So you know, as a Coalition for the homeless, we
help individuals and families struggling with homelessness on a daily basis.
The need is huge in Central Florida. Last year, that
number you're looking at is actually a year behind.
Speaker 8 (17:35):
So last year we were.
Speaker 12 (17:36):
Actually two eight hundred individuals moved into permanent stable housing.
What that means is those individuals did not need to
They got out of a shelter bed and into a
permanent stable home, whether that's with a relative or a
home that they themselves can manage.
Speaker 14 (17:50):
Yeah, that's huge, That.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Is huge, you know.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
And I think when we first started working with you,
I thought that the homeless and I thought maybe the
person that's trying to you know, bum you off the
street and trying to liquor and all that.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Kind of stuff. That's not what it means.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Now there's a lot of like single moms, people that
just had no idea they were going to be homeless.
Speaker 12 (18:08):
Absolutely, yeah, absolutely, So there's a huge misconception. People think
that it's just the man on the street who has
an alcohol or drug addiction, and that's not what we're
seeing at all. Actually, this last point in time count
that came out, we saw an increase in senior citizens
and children struggling with homelessness. These are individuals and families
that are on the street and most times I have
the pleasure of interviewing these people as part of my
(18:28):
job because I'm on the comms team and a lot
of these are single moms who have five kids who
you know, had to change in a property management and
they can't afford their living paycheck to paycheck, and so
we're just there to just give them a step up,
a help in the right direction, give them case management,
give them access to food and daycare so that they
can focus on what matters and get into a stable,
permanent house. And you know, with the affordable housing crisis
(18:50):
and Orlando, that's difficult, but this number, getting twenty eight
hundred people into permanent housing, that's that's the best we've done.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
Yeah, it's thanks to supporters like you.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Guys, and then and then not you don't just help
with housing, are you also helped with getting people fed?
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Right? Yes?
Speaker 12 (19:05):
Yeah, absolutely. We provide three meals a day on our campus.
On our campus, we have about five hundred individuals on
a daily basis, and on top of that, we serve
other people through our outreach programs and some of our
other programs and services. So we're hitting about eight hundred
and fifty people on a daily basis. That's over five
hundred meals that we're providing on campus. And a lot
of people don't know this, but we offer a free
community meal every evening to anyone that shows up at
(19:28):
our gate and needs a meal.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
So, yeah, the meals.
Speaker 12 (19:31):
Last year we hit just about two hundred and thirty
thousand meals. These are individuals that are not having to
worry about where their next meal is coming from because
people like you guys, individual donors are volunteers. They're supporting
those you know, meals and serving those meals to these
families so they can focus on what matters.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
So when people don't they call in right now four
seven nine six reel or they text in their donation,
does that money go all over the United States or
does it stay right here?
Speaker 12 (19:54):
Stays right here in Central Florida. We take those dollars
and we invest in directly into the programs and services
that were due. We have outreach teams that go out
or looking for families, specifically, individuals specifically who might be
in encampments, might be out on the streets, might be
in a Walmart parking lot. We're sending those individuals out.
We're helping these individuals, and a lot of people are scared.
They don't know what those steps are, they don't know
(20:14):
that the resources are out there and we're there to
let them know, hey, we're here, we're your neighbor, and
we care about you, and it's time to help you
get to where you need to be.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Now, I know we say this every year. Every year
we say, oh, the need is greater this year. Hopefully
one day like next year, but yeah, needs not as
great as it was last year. But once again, I
think we're saying the same thing. The need is greater
this year than it was last one.
Speaker 12 (20:35):
Unfortunately, that's what we're seeing. And again it goes back
to affordable housing. I mean, if we don't have units
that are available or affordable for the individuals and we
don't have the jobs, then we can't do it. I mean, again,
a lot of these are families, families. I mean, we
see the holidays as a time where we are all
getting together. We're joyous, we're having food, we're celebrating, we're
giving presents. And these are families who are on the
(20:55):
streets who don't have that privilege just because they don't
get paid enough. And that's another misconception. A lot of
people think that the individuals thing with us don't have jobs.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
They do.
Speaker 12 (21:04):
These are individuals that employed. You come on our campus,
and I encourage you come on a campus tour. We
have a five hundred person you know capacity, but you're
not going to see five hundred people on campus because
those individuals are out, they're going to work, and a
lot of times they're working longer shifts than we are.
But it's just not enough.
Speaker 9 (21:20):
JUSTSA, where's the campus located?
Speaker 12 (21:21):
Yeah, we are located right in downtown Orlando and the
other soccer stadium. Our addresses eighteen North Terry Avenue if anyone,
and I encourage everyone, if you want to get involved,
come volunteer or just see what we do. Just let
us know, Come talk to me and we can set
up a campus tour because I'm telling you, every time
people come by, they are shocked at the volume of
work we're doing, the size of our campus, and really
(21:43):
all the programs and operations we have in place to
help these people.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
All right, Well, because you and Daisy dress are like,
I might get you confused all day, But thank you
very much for we're coming out and guys, make those
phones ring now if.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
You can help out, you hear it. It's a great,
great cause. Angel. The best way for them to donate
is what.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Give us call for us having nine one six reel
or text monsters give to four four eight three four

Speaker 3 (22:05):

Speaker 4 (22:09):

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Yeah, you can go to real Radio Monsters dot com.
Speaker 3 (22:12):

a little break and we come back. We got and
Doug with Monster Music Man Matt the best, I'm the
best interviewer.
Speaker 6 (22:28):
You guys saw that I'm the best.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Crush, the data crush, the daisy uh and then uh,
you know, Angelie's keeping the tally we got uh we well,
Savannah's gonna do a matter of flight eight o'clock. Right,
you're good for eight o'clock. All right, Savannah's good for
eight o'clock. So, uh, if you can donate, that would

and what I want to do today is give a
guaranteed donation of one thousand dollars.

Okay, all right, I like that. That's good.
Speaker 22 (24:25):
I was gonna donate it to Ryan's hard rock account,
but for some reason they said Coalition for the Homeless
needed it more.

So, sorry, Ryan, that's not true.
Speaker 22 (24:35):
I'm also calling out all the dentists. We know we
don't work on Fridays, but I want to do a
matching challenge for up to two thousand dollars.

the dentists to donate up to two thousand dollars, I
