Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's up, Mommies and Poppies. It is Laala Kent with Randall.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
We are back for another exciting episode.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Oh gross, what is that?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
I was just making sound effects because we're not we
don't have a budget yet for sound effects. But I'm
telling you and Tim producer Tim is sitting here. I
am telling you, Tim, I need one of those boxes. Yeah,
that's sick. I can just hit Okay, we're gonna get that.
I need that in the next episode because I want
to fuck it. I'm going to go off with those
of visual flights. But anyway, back to business.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Back to business. So we have we have Kate Bosworth
and Michael Polish today.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Kate Bosworth obviously one of the greatest American actresses, and
her husband Michael Polish, who is a incredibly talented director.
We have done three or four movies together as Michael
and I and Kate as well, and they have a
new movie that I produced that Kate's starring in with
a Meal Hirsch and Mel Gibson to be released you
(01:13):
thirtieth called Force Force of Nature, and we're excited. I
didn't even know the name of my own fucking movie. Wow,
that means quarantine screwed me up, lat I mean, I
you know it as quick as I normally am.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
I totally get it, rand because I'm in a full fog.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
I really am, like between the pickleball and and just
waking up every day, It's like it's a lot. It's
a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
It is between the pickleball and just waking up. It
is a lot. And I went into a k hole
on our podcast reviews and I saw one and I
feel like this is perfect to explain real quick since
we have a couple on the podcast day one who's
an actress, one who's a director. And one of the
comments was, by the way, people show up lot of
(02:00):
love to this podcast, so let's give a shout out
to everyone who's sharing beautiful, amazing kind messages. This one
message was not about It was not hateful in any way.
It just said, I feel like Randall shows Lala so
much love on the podcast, but it is not reciprocated
on Lalla's end. So let me take a moment.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I want to say something too. I'm gonna let you
take a book, take your moment. Then I'm gonna say.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Thank you, baby.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Go ahead, Randal, you are my best friend. And I
love that we can like bust balls together. But let
me say this, you, my love, are like my ride
or die. I'm going to reciprocate the love more so
that the listeners know what because when I'm with you
doing this, it's like the banter. It's like fun. Like
(02:45):
no one wants to sit here and listen to me
be like, I'm so madly in love with Randall.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
I like, who, I didn't even know. I didn't even
know they made those comments. I saw one, like one comment.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
It was one.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Okay. The bottom line is what your fans are trying
to tell you is kiss my hand. That's what you're
supposed to do, kiss and worship my ass. So going forward,
I would like you to come in, give me a
back massage. Following the back massage, give me lots of kisses, okay,
and then we'll start our podcast. Could you now? I
know I'm dreaming right now, but I yeah, I was.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
I wanted to say you got the wrong bit, but
but I'm just gonna smile and nod and say okay now.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
But baby, let me say something. First of all, I
think that the podcast, first of all for somebody to
judge our relationship, meaning solely through a podcast. They're not
going to see our personal moments, because that's when we're
at home, when we're together, when we're driving here, when
we're when we're you know, doing what we do. I
think the podcast we're trying to really entertain people and
give them a slice of who we are.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
However, I also when Randall's.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Show, are you kissing my ass?
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I'll kiss your ass? When Randall shows me love, it
does not come off as corny or cheesy, like you're
really good at wait him. Producer Tim is over there,
going Tim, well, I don't know about that.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
You're going to question my bike? Oh Tim? Tim says
it's not legitimate. No, no, he says it's not. He
says it's not that it's not legitimate. He says it
might be borderline corny is what he's trying to say.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
So that's what I said. I said, you have a
way of making your love shown for me not cheesy.
On the podcast, Tim's face was like, I don't know
about that.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Tim. Let me tell you something. I am more romantic
than you will ever fucking.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Be hey, this is not We're not like shooting fucking
flamy arrows at people.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Guy for ten years by by producer Tim True Story
And next week we'll have the mic working so you
can rebuttal but I'm glad you can't write now but
ten years. But in the ten years i've known you,
True Story, I have been very instrumental and helpful in
coming up with ideas for gifts, for vacations, et cetera.
(04:56):
For your wife. Correct, Okay, thanks, that's a fact. I
have sat with Tim and said you should go to
this hotel, or your wife will really like this, or
this is a nice gift, or he'll throw ideas. I
am very, very very supportive his strong suit. You don't
even have a suit when it comes to giving gifts.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Well, Tim, I'm shitty at it too. Don't worry.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Oh Laala, Okay, we're gonna go down this road. Lala,
You're not shitty at it. You suck.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
I'm really bad. I'm really about it showering people with gifts.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
But I will tell you what, but you are a
lover and for me, showering me with the affection and
love and the cuddling and all that stuff. Right, that's
the most important thing. If you have that from your partner,
everything else secretary like there's not a lot of things
you can go buy me that are going to change
my life in anyway.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I bought you things, and I still hold on to
the fact that I bought you things. And I hold
on to the fact that I bought you things because
they either go missing because he just never opens it.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
There we go, or he's.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Like I look at it and I'm like, this is
still in the box with the price tags, Like.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Okay, well, I want to tell you something you bought
me that that I'm going to and why it doesn't
come out of the box. You bought me a pair
of Gucci not slides, Gucci shoes that have like flowers
on them. I didn't, Yes, you did that. Ones that
are painted, had some friggin' fool food.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Oh no, I gave this to my brother.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I did tell you could do that.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
You told me I could. I know the exact ones
you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Okay, Yeah, you're sure, I'm steel ship from my closet.
I'm putting a camera in the closet.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Go for it.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I would love that, Okay, I want.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
To just I did ask you they were green and
had for give.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Me that look right now, that darting look I'm going yeah,
but I want to tell you something that I will
mark you. I'm going to tell you something I'm gonna
post on my gram. I'm gonna have your brother send
me a screenshot of those shoes.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
They were just they were girly. You. You told me
that the second that I got them for you.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Okay, so I can't so, okay, you would love them,
but you can't hold on to shoes that you could
wear that I didn't want to wear. They're not my
wear you wanted.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
To So I bought you a fitbit. I bought you
a Peloton.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Being inventory because that's what I am.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
A stingy motherfucker. And if I'm spending money, I would
rather you just not make me give you any cheapest,
fuck so cheap, the cheapest of the cheap.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
But I love you regardless. But I want to tell
you something. The shoes. I'm being serious, the shoes most
people would not wear those shoes.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
That I have a bought you shoes that you do
love anyway.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Bought sneakers. I love sneakers. You know that, Yes, And
by the way, you did give me a phenomenal gift
once which I was shocked and moved because you spent
a lot of money, more money than you should have spent,
and you had bought me a piece of luggage that
was super fancy and I use it to this day.
The only thing that sucked about this piece of luggage,
you know, when you get one of these pieces of
fancy luggage, which I've never had, I roll around literally
(07:48):
with a backpack, you know, Tim, a backpack and like
some duffel from you know, Target. So I don't really
care what my letters looks like. But you bought me
a really fancy piece of leverage. I loved it.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
And I was going to the airport one day. There's
a true story, Tim, I was going to the airport
and I didn't close the back of the suv. Yeah,
and it was there, and I drove out of the
drive at fifty miles an hour and the thing went
flying out of the back of the s feet. I
tell you this, I probably didn't tell you this. You're
giving me that look again. Laala's pissed. So it flew
out of the back. This is like the first week
(08:19):
it flew out of the back. I heard it. I go,
oh my god, my luggage is down my hole and
drive I have to ui back. I grab it and
it's like shread it. Yeah, but I still use it
every day. I tried to buff it out so you
never see it. Okay, Lala's got her mouth. Your jaw
has just dropped. She has not moved out of this position.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Can I tell you something about me? I keep my
things in impeccable condition. I have. I had these forever
twenty one heels that literally my mom took a picture
of They're still in my closet, my closet from when
I was in high school back home in Utah. They
were like in mint condition, and I would wear them
(08:58):
all the time because like I'm a bitch in Utah.
I had like two grand in my bank account one
time in Utah, and I was like, I'm fucking so rich.
I'm going to Nordstrum and buying Steve Maddens. That was
like my splurge. But I'm just really great at keeping
things nice. So when you asked to use my Gucci
Duffel bag and I say fuck no and you get upset,
(09:19):
I'm gonna remind you of the time you went fifty
miles an hour down Mullholland had luggage fly out of
the back that common our podcast.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Is this you showing more affection in our podcast? I'm
just curious. No, I mean it's funny, but I'm just as.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
I love you, Randall. You're everything I've ever wanted.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
That better that was so bad and fake.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
I thought it sounded kind of hot.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Yeah, if you weren't sitting in front of me, I
can't wait to bump peepies with you. That's what I'm
talking about. That's the ship. I mean, what the fuck
is this? Babe? Stop my god? I love you.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
I love you too. Let's let's let's let's switch gears.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
No, I don't want to.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yeah, we're gonna go to a break. When we come back.
We have the beautiful Kate Bosworth and her talented hubby
Michael Polish.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
We'll be back in the minute.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
I love you. I'm sorry. We are back, and we
have two of my most favorite people in the world.
We have Kate Bosworth and her amazing hubby, Michael Polish.
What's up, my loves, Hi guys, everything's good. I'm so
(10:31):
excited to have you guys. Thank you so much for
doing this.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Oh my god, we're so psyched. We're you know, anytime
to spend time with you guys.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
We should just be recording every time we hang out together,
and then we can just slice it together.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
By the way, it's.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Actually a really great idea. People would die.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
The conversations that we've had as a group have just
been fucking epics. So the fact that we could bring
it live here it makes it even more fun. All right,
So let me just let me just give a briefing.
First of all, Kate and I have known each other.
I can't Kate. When was one Nderland the first movie
that we did together.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
No, I don't know, ten years ago, No, no longer.
It was like two thousand and two or three.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Oh my god, dude, that's amazing. So we know so low.
We've known each other seventeen years we did.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
That's what we call a throwback friendship.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
So we've known each other seventeen years. Kate was the
star of a movie that I was fortuate enough to
produce with Al Kilmer called Wonderland, based on the Murders
of Wonderland. We shot in Kate, do you remember this
New Mexico? Right? Was it New Mexico? Lah? I'm thinking
of something else, but mind fuck.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
We shot in La but you're thinking of the other
one that you did with.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Well, correct, that's because I'm old, Kate. I'm old. I'm
forty nine.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
I know I am too. I was like trying to
count the years back, and I said, so.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
We did this movie in la It was really fucking cool.
It was indie, it was just badass, and obviously you're amazing.
We we sparked our friend ship. We've been friends for
that long seventeen years. Then I meet Michael, who is
just the greatest director. Michael, and how many movies take
us through, you guys, the films that we've done together
(12:14):
as a family, and then we'll get into everything else.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
The movies that are in the bedroom movies.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Are talking about porno.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Michael, Michael and I have had some really deep, deep moments.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
You know. If there's a section for Johnny Walker Blue,
we'll table that.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
By the way, By the way, Johnny Walker Blue, you've
heard it from now, Kate Bosworth, Michael Polish and myself,
Lala doesn't drink. Send the bottles. We like the custom
Johnny Blue bottles.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Send them, you guys, we need.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
The Johnny Walker Blue bottles.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Well. The fact that Kate, the fact Kate, you just
put that out there. They are definitely sending us ship.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
I mean, I have all my digits crossed exactly.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
You know, let's say the first movie. There's a few
movies that we were always entertained together, and then there
was just you know, yeah, and then the first movie
that was probably both out of our wheelhouse was ninety
Minutes in Heaven because coming from your background, it coming
from my background, that was just that was just you know,
that was that's just take us to church.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
It was it was crazy. That was crazy.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
It was crazy, but you know, it was it was
nice to be in a great area together because it
was something we both didn't realize what faith based movies
are like and what we were trying to do, and
it was, you know, forming a relationship. So it was
you know, it was we were sort of being married
by our parents and didn't know each other.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Oh my god, that's so well said I and I
do agree. And it was the first time the three
of us got to work together in one film, which
I think was really special. It was like a family thing.
It was so fun, you know, to do something that
we're all uncomfortable doing.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Because it was well, then this movie took place in like,
what twenty fifteen?
Speaker 4 (13:59):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Rightly? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:00):
We shot so then you guys met on the film
Big Sir. Right, that's like where you started. So was
that before ninety minutes in Heaven? Like you guys were
like hitting it off big that was like the first film. Dude,
can you please tell me about that?
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Yeah, tell us about how it hooked up. I should
have started there. So I get so fucking excited when
Kate and michaelaw together.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
Random, Yeah, I'm excited too. Let's just throw all all together.
Michael and I met on a film called Big sur
in twenty eleven, and it's you know, Big Sir, the
Jack Carrowac adaptation. So it was an intense movie for
Michael to make because it was like very cerebral and
the adaptation of a great, you know, literary hero. And
(14:46):
and for me, the dialogue was quite tricky because it
was like just like Kero Whac. Michael adapted it with
like no punctuation. It was all run on sentences, so
he had the actor sort of decide where they would
take their beats, how they wanted to set the pace
for each care So it was it was a little
bit like Shakespearean like that. So I was quite I
was pretty nervous. I was twenty eight years old, and like, literally,
(15:07):
this is the absolute truth. Like the first day we
were filming was quite an intense scene, and I was
probably very horrible the first day.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
You've never been as.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
I'm serious, I was really nervous. So Michael lovingly calls
it my fireworks, which means I was like and then
he came in and adjusted me. In law, you've worked
with them, so you know that like quiet actor whisper adjustment.
You know, of course he does. And so he gave
me that adjustment, and I, you know, I think I
(15:39):
gave him what he wanted.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
And it was Kate.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Was literally but seriously, you guys, like it was. After
that take, Michael looked at his first A D and said,
she doesn't know it yet, but I'm going to marry
that girl.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
I have chills all over my body.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Time out, time out? Hold on, is that really, Michael?
It's confirm?
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Or I saw her on set and I have only
known her for probably a minute. At that point, she
sat down at the table and she I'm sitting behind
the camera as I I am not a real monitored person.
So I'm behind the camera and I go in there
and she does this take, and I go in there
and I put my hand on the shoulder. I said,
don't say anything until you feel like saying it. This
(16:20):
is video, this isn't film. Don't We're not burning through anything.
So if it takes you ten minutes, five minutes, eat dinner,
eat dinner, and then when when it comes out of
your mouth, it comes out of your mouth. And she
sat there and I said to this's go and re action,
and she gave a take, and then he said, to
my idea, I said, I'm going to marry that girl.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Oh, oh my goodness.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
What an amazing I love that.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Sorry, now it's different than ours, where you like to say,
well went to bang Town. Do you see the romance
of how they sell that story. Can you please try
to sell the story like that in the.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Future, most definitely. Now that I just I'm kid you not,
I just got chills on the bod. I will do that.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
I will do that for sure, because we did have
a romantic moment before you like the black about the
bang Town park.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
I know I've heard your story. It's so romantic.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I have to say this. So Kate and I met
when we were flying to Puerto Rico on what on acxis.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Sally and on a PG. He's so bougie and.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
We were and I was so nervous because I knew
I was playing opposite al Pacino. Michael, you were directing.
By the way, there's nobody that has made me feel
more confident on a set than Michael fucking Polish.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Ah yeah, so serious.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
And I remember my first name right, totally.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
And we were on the plane ride there and Kate,
you and I just completely hit it off, like you
are my rider, die bitch. I love you so much.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I love you.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
And you said to me, Michael has a way with actors.
You're gonna be just fine. So you telling that story
minus the part of you know him saying he gonna
marry you. I didn't have that experience, but just the way, yeah, right,
So just the way he deals with actors, he babies
them in their cracks.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Well, let me say this as a producer who's now
produced three movies as Michael's producer. There is a magic
that Michael has. And Kate said this, You did say
this to me, Kate, how he like when Lala is
freaking out. Oh my god, it's gonna be Butchina, I'm nervous.
You said, Michael will handle you. And every set I've
been on with Michael, he there's never a problem. There's
(18:29):
never been an actor. And I've been on a lot
of movies where actors come to me and say, this
fucking director and is clue. So this director doesn't get
it or he doesn't understand. And every actor has the
same kind of response, like they feel safe and they
feel protected, and and and besides, Michael has an epic vision.
But Michael, you do have that thing. It's even, by
the way, I'll take it one step further, even with producers.
(18:52):
You handle me with grace and style, because you know me,
I flip the fuck out when shit's you know, going south,
and I'm ready to assassinate. And then Michael gets on
the pole head No man, no wait, Michael, you get
on the phone and you do this always thing with
that voice. You go, it's going to be fine, Everything's
going to be fine. Okay, good, I'll hang up and I'm.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Fine, I go, I go. The thing that I have
my greatest relationship with Randal is that that is not advertised,
is that he's in the mirror. He's in the miracle business.
And and people who make movies and try and make
movies and have a really hard time don't realize the
difficulty it is to make a movie. So when I'm
granted one of me and Randall decide to do one together,
(19:32):
it's a miracle. So you have to treat our relationship is. Yes,
there's going to be ups and down. It's going to
feel like a Disneyland riot every once in a while.
It is going to be weird.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
You know, I appreciate that. I agree with you. It's
like you and I pushing a boulder that's four hundred
times the size of us up this hill, and every
time we get it up to a section, it drops
down five feet and we have to like get back
and do it again. And I do. I do. Michael,
you handle your crew and your cas with such grace,
(20:01):
and Kate, I do agree. He's got this thing, even
as a producer, that you just know how to handle
when the pressure just starts and you don't fall apart,
you don't play into it. You're just like, what do
we got to do to move forward? And we do it.
And that's why we've done three and we're going to
do another one because I told you I got another
script for you.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
It's like I say to actors, you know, because everyone's
always a little nervous the first day, regardless of how
many movies you've done or who you're playing opposite. But
I always say, Michael will not let you fail, like period.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
That's so true coming from somebody like you, Kate. I
want people to listen on this podcast. There are actors
like a mil Hirsch, like Kate Bosworth that are very
high level, respected actors in our industry. So when somebody
says something like that, it's it comes from a place
of like, I've been through the ringer on fifty movies,
so for me to see that it is you know
what I mean? And I've been through the ringer as
(20:51):
a producer with directors, so it's it is a miracle
when you get that relationship that really works.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
So I have a question for you. How many movies
have you guys done together?
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Oh my god, that's a good question, Hibe. I thank yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
And what is that? What is that like? So you
guys are married, Like, what is that relationship like when
you are on set.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
That's a great question, because you know, it's not like
we're two teachers at MIT or some things, you know,
but you know we come home saying that. But what's
nice is that there's no competition, and I don't do
what she does and she doesn't do it I do.
So we lean on each other. And I'm amazed when
I'm watching her work, because it's the same with any actors,
(21:32):
same with my love. When I watched Lata, I don't
do what you guys are doing. The gift that you
have been given is to present work and interpret stories
and interpret dialogue that has been written. And it's magic
for me to watch. So I watch it as a fan,
and so I'm watching it and respecting it, and so
I look at Kate. I'm watching it basically as as
a fan. You know, you know it's directing and brand.
(21:54):
But you're now approaching this a lot. You're more of
a coach than you are a dictator. You don't have
to point your fingers in just you have to coach
and tell everybody in the system I work and is
you have two hundred people, one hundred and fifty people
from different backgrounds to do exactly what they don't want
to do. Your job is to get them to do it.
And how are you going to get people to do
what you wanted to do and they don't really want
to do it? You know, not everybody wants to be there.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
I agree with you, and honestly, you know, I've you know,
I've produced one hundred Plust films, but directing, I've only
got five days under my belt, so I don't have
the experience you have, but I do. We've had this
conversation because you helped me and were a mentor to
me when I was going through the pre productions. It
is a coaching it is. I found myself looking at
(22:37):
the monitor in scenes not even calling action because I
was so in the moment of watching the performances. Yeah,
they'd be like background ready, and then it's looking at me.
And then Megan Fox was like, Randall action, are you
gonna call it? I was like, you do your job,
I'll do my.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
You have you guys ever gotten into it on set?
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Oh that's a good one. I'd love to hear this
one time.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Remember, but actually, you know, I'll you know, I'll bounce
off of what Michael said, which is like truly like
The reason why it works so well is that we
have so much admiration and respect for one another, like
and I think a lot of that had to do
with the fact that we started our relationships started as professionals,
you know, regardless of you know, I'm going to marry
(23:24):
her within five minutes. It was like we both truly
on that movie, like appreciated each other's work and the
way we work so much that that has never changed,
regardless of sleeping in the same bet or not. But
the only time we got into it that I recall
was actually it was it was recently.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
It was.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
It was unfortnate nature.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
It was not our Okay, wait before we even go
in there, hold on, this is a movie, by the way,
I want everybody listening, guys. This is a movie that
we have coming out June thirtieth. I produced it with
a Meal, hirsh Mel Gibson, Kate and Michael directing. This
movie is fucking awesome. Everybody good. Everybody must go see
(24:08):
this movie. I am so proud to have done this.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
We had we had a mil hersh a couple of
weeks ago, and he was he's so proud of this film.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
You guys.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Yeah, oh, you.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Know what we had. So here's the thing. We had
so much fun doing this thing. I mean, like, you guys,
we were together, you know, in Puerto Rico. It was
it was crazy, you know, and it was it was
it was so fun. And like I love the movie
so much because it does just feel like one big,
action packed fun ride with like great character, awesome humor,
just like NonStop action, you know, and like it doesn't stop.
(24:41):
But you're on a ride with this one.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
And by the way, by the way, you guys, the
crazy thing that people don't know until they see the
movie is it takes place in a storm and you
guys are soaked like with rain machines all day, fifteen
hours a day. Yeah, it was brutal.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Yeah, that's a perfect intro to the fight.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Okay, all right, tell us.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
It was no, it was literally, like I think it
was like the second to last day.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
It was.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
It was a second to last day of my of
my of my schedule, and I I I was getting
it was the weirdest thing.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
I was.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
You don't think about hypothermia in somewhere like Puerto Rico
with the temperatures, but because we were wet all the time,
and you know we're similar with like tiny, tiny girls,
you know, like I just don't have a lot of
body fat. So like even though it's warm weather, if
my body temperature lowers slightly throughout the day, I was
getting this like crazy low grade hypothermia. And I think
(25:34):
it was just like my physical you know, capabilities were
just depleted. And I just like looked at Michael and
I can't think it was just that right, it was physical.
I took him over the parking lot, I took him
out in the parking lot. I hit the wall. I
was like, I can't do this anymore.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
It's not a fight. It's not a fight.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
It was just it was like.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
I can't even say by Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
It was a moment of Kate hitting her breaking point
and Michael had to toughen her up a bit, you know,
like you got this.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
He looked at me and he was like okay, and
you know, Rander, you know this, He's like, okay, what
do you need?
Speaker 2 (26:13):
You know, right, That's that's the gift he has, Kate.
It's like he just knows what to say when you
want to go to war. Like you're looking at him
and you're ready to scrap, and he goes, all right,
what are we gonna do?
Speaker 4 (26:23):
You know, I mean it takes it takes so much
for me to get to that level. But it's like
and I for me to admit that I was physically breaking,
like that's actually what pissed me off war like, you know,
like it was that that I was like, I have
to say, how like, you know, weak I'm feeling And
that was the thing that I like made me like
so mad. And he just looked at me and he
was like, Okay, let's figure it out.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
That's Michael. That is like, if anybody's listening, that is
the greatest summer of who Michael is. He just he
has this thing. Not it takes a lot for people
to have it, not everybody has it, but he has it.
Like he can just look at you you want to scrap,
and then all of a sudden you're putting your sword
down because he just says the right thing, like, Okay,
I'm going to be more rational. Of course it's true.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yeah, Okay, I want to dig into literally everything about
you guys. Let's take a quick break and we will
be right back with Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish. We
are back with Kate Bosworth, and this is Michael's idea
for me to reintroduce him as Michael motherfucking Polish.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
Yeah, so now it has to be given the motherfucking love.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Yeah, we love that.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
My sponsors would be like, perfect, we love the new name.
So let's really quickly back to Force of Nature that
is said to be released this year in June thirtieth.
But you guys also have things that are going on,
which not that all of your films are not important,
(27:52):
but I remember, Kate, you sent me this trailer for
a film that you and Michael did called No No, which, yeah,
correct me if I'm wrong, is short for no Name,
and it's about human trafficking, correct, And what tell me?
Tell me about how you guys made this film. You
(28:12):
having a passion for getting human trafficking out there.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Yeah so, and thank you so much for supporting supporting us,
by the way, because it really is like this is
the the most independent film can possibly be made. So
Michael had been at work one day in Los Angeles
and he drove home and he walked into the door
and he said to me, you know, I just heard
this story on on the radio that was talking about
(28:39):
a sex house that had just been busted with a
bunch of young girls, you know, as the sex trafficking victims.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
And he said, you know, where where where was this
house that got this sex trafficking house that got busted
on Western It was in Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
Yeah, yeah, and well and that your reaction was exactly
his reaction, which was, you know, we had no idea
that this was happening so frequently, you know, right, you know,
in our neighborhood, you know. And so he, you know,
he said, I'd like to dig into this a little more,
and I think there might be you know, a story
to be told here. And he did, he really, you know,
(29:16):
he went into the research quite deeply and came came
back to me and said, I'd like to write a
screenplay that's a narrative story about one girl starting in Honduras, Okay.
And essentially, you know, his his idea was that, look,
there's a lot of great documentaries on human trafficking and
(29:36):
sex trafficking, but it's a tough subject, right because you know,
you kind of you bring it up and people are like, oh,
I kind of know what it is, but like it
it's so heavy.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
It is, and people feel uncomfortable, and people are very
unaware that this is happening in our neighborhoods. They think
it's something that's happening, you know, in other countries.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Right, No, exactly, And and you know, it happens behind
closed doors for a reason. It's sort of like when
you kind of, you know, crack that door open, people
are like, oh, that's such a monstrous thing that it's
difficult to look at. But you know, I do think
that part of our responsibility as storytellers is to you know,
it is to shine a light on things that are
difficult to discuss sometimes. So he though he was aware
(30:18):
that it was going to be a kind of a
tough subject matter to, you know, to approach. So he
he came up with the idea of starting with one
girl and allowing the audience to get to know her
in her you know, hometown of San Paedri Solo, which
is you know, known as the murder capital of the
world in Honduras, and you you just meet her in
(30:40):
her circumstances and can understand start understanding the how and
the why something like this can happen. And that when
a young cute guy who meets her in her town, says,
you know, you don't you have your dreams ahead of
you shouldn't be living here. If I have an aunt
in America, I can get you to her and you'll
have a life. You can live your dreams. You know,
you can see how something like this happens with coyotes
(31:02):
praying on the most vulnerable you know, of humanity. So
it was really about I always say that Michael approached
it with the sort of trojan horse approach, and that
you fall in love with her, and you actually fall
in love with the coyote because you don't know he's
a coyote until about seventy percent of the movie Wow.
You when you start kind of you start realizing that
(31:22):
something's a bit weird, and he then ultimately sells her.
So for about seventy percent of the movie, it's like
this beautiful coming of age road trip movie and you're
kind of like you're just on this ride. And of
course the way Michael, you know, he shot at himself.
You know, he picked up a camera and you know,
literally photographs the whole movie while directing Wow. And and basically,
(31:45):
you know, your heart breaks with hers as you realize
that she's being sold into human trafficking. So it was
a deliberate approach to the subject matter so that people
could most of the time they see the result. You
hear the sex house that's been.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Busted or you right, you don't know the journey of
how it all.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Do the journey, And I think that like, once you
understand the why and the how of something, you can
start understanding the human being and that ultimately create more
empathy for the situation rather than just turning your back
on something that's difficult to discuss, you.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Know, right, And you and Michael funded this film on
your own. Y, yeah, I know that. And where can
people watch? Nonah?
Speaker 4 (32:28):
Yeah, I mean I think it's on it's been to
be honest, it's been a little bit, but it's it's on. Yeah,
it's on iTunes and I think it was on stars
ro Well, sorry, ul, I should have had that.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
No, that's okay. This can I tell you? This podcast
is so like informal, Like it's not like I'm sitting
up here like I'm working on CNN interviewing the dog.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
I would say the best place to try and find
it on iTunes right now. It's it's such a I have.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
A question was was was that one of the most
fun movies you've ever had? Because you guys fund it yourself.
It was your baby, you know, no films about or
and the message was it was it like one of
those moments or you know what was the experience like,
you know, being everything on the film?
Speaker 4 (33:11):
Well, you know, honestly, I had to stay in Los
Angeles because I was I was a producer. I was
producing producing the film, and I was allocating the funds
and green lighting the funds while Michael was obviously directing
and shooting the pictures, so he was really focused on
the creative of it.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Oh wow.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
And because he was shooting in Honduras, all through Guatemala
and then across Mexico, so truly the most dangerous places
in the world. And he had a crew of like
he had a crew of like four people. It was
the actors and him. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Wow, I'm very impressed. And I can't go on without
acknowledging the fact that in twenty eighteen people included you
on the list of twenty five women Changing the World
for your activism in the area of human That is amazing.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
I want to get one, you know it?
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Oh Man started doing something, Randall, Michael can write you
a letter that Michael Michael, I need a reference letter
for people to thanks buddy.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
We've kind of put your money where your mouth is
moment and Randall, you know that feeling. But when you're
really throwing down for something you care about and you
know matters in the world, it's it's that that's the
feeling that's incredible. It's like understanding that you know with
with this piece of art, that there's the opportunity to
affect lives.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
But how and how empowering is that that you stood up,
didn't ask anybody else, just did it yourself. I mean,
there's there's something you're freeing about that I love very Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
Yeah, I know you're right because you're like, well, if
I want this, then you know you don't have to
ask anybody, right, you don't have to.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Go teach or can I get that extra light that
I want on Friday night? Exactly?
Speaker 4 (34:47):
Yeah, totally. And actually, because because I had that experience,
I sort of like quote unquote the bank, I I
honestly felt as as I started to produce more like
I had a better relationship with studios and producers because
you understand certain.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
I mean I was like, listen, I've done it. I
know how it feels. I know how it feels to
have someone ask you for this and you not wanting
to do it, but sometimes having to.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
You know, would you do it again?
Speaker 4 (35:15):
I would?
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Okay, that's really neat.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
I love when actors are just people in front of
the camera switch and produce, because, like you said, there
is an understanding. But also you come from being on
a movie set since you were who knows five years old,
and like, you know your way around. It's not a
foreign thing for you to produce. It's just now you
have all the control and integrity and all that stuff,
(35:38):
so especially on something that you believe, you know so fondly,
and so I think that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
Thanks guys, so thanks so much again for supporting it. Well,
I really appreciate that, dude.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Of course. I think it's a topic where I think
most people were kind of introduced to it when they
saw the film with Liam Neeson. It was like an
action pact movie and you're like, oh my god, okay,
we need to be careful. And again, like you don't
really see the nitty gritty of it. You just see
like it was an action packed movie, and for me,
when I saw that as a young kid, I was like,
(36:08):
oh my god, human trafficking, Like I had no idea
that existed. So the fact that you're taking us through
like how this really goes down is just amazing. Like
I really, I really appreciate you bringing light to something.
You know, You've done amazing films you started. Your breakout
role was It's still one of my most favorite movies,
(36:29):
Blue Crush, And you know, like I just love.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
That movie too.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
It's so funny lo lot because people ask me sometimes
they get nervous, like embarrassed to say that, and I'm like, no,
that like that movie is like I always call it
like one of my like artistic organs.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Okay, I love it.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
It's like my heart, you know, because it's like I
cared so much about that movie, and I I mean
it was it was an absolutely crazy, beautiful experience. But
I'm that was you know, I'm so glad people continued
to be inspired by it.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
You know, that was your like breakout role if I'm correct, Yeah, yeah,
it was. And then I'm kind of a dummy. Was
was Blue Crush? Before Tim weigh in on this, if
you know, was that before remember the Titans?
Speaker 4 (37:10):
No, remember the Titans before? It was before I was
like fifteen or sixteen when I did remember the Titans,
and then I was I was a fine.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
I'm a creative, I'm a cinematic genius.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
I know I should have looked at you instead of
I am. I am an efficient to watch like people
like Kate who they have all of these amazing moments.
I just find it very inspiring when they take their
platform to start doing things that really make a difference
in this world.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Oh thank you, Junnie.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
You're so welcome, and let's let's just pivot, pivot onto
even more incredible things that you're doing. You recently launched
a new website called Kindest Tell me about this?
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Oh my god, First of all, before you say it,
hold on, sorry I ruined that introduction. But I am
such a dummy. I was like, what is kind dot st?
How fucking idiot is That's amazing?
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Really?
Speaker 2 (38:01):
I swear to god, kid, I was trying to figure
this out, like kind dot established kind kind this because
you're smart and creative and I'm an idiot.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Well, she did get accepted to Princeton let's just like
not freak out.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
She's smart. And I went to film school keep going okay.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
No, actually, Randall, you're you're you are, You're picking up
on like what I was playing on, which is so
I was really fortunate to have parents that raised me
to handwrite thank you letters. And at the time, I
was like, oh, I just found it so painful to
do when I was like thirteen fourteen, But as I
got older, you know, one of the I think one
(38:38):
of the reasons why I started to make a little
bit of a mark with people because I moved out
to LA when I was eighteen years old, and like,
knew no one, you know, so I would I would
write thank you letters to like casting directors and you know,
if a producer happened to meet me, I would write
a thank you letter, and it just wow, you know.
I even suggest that to up and coming actors, like
they ask like what could they do, and I I
always say, you know, you can easily different and shehat
(39:00):
yourself with with something as simple as that, you know
what I mean, and like to say thank you for
your time. I really appreciate your meeting. And it's true,
it's like everyone's busy and you know, to to just
stop and say thank you will make a difference. But
I always signed my letters kind as Kate, and so
the website itself came from my actual like you know, signature.
(39:21):
But to play on the actual name of it, it's
a place established kind So to put the dot after
the D is sort of a play on all of that.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Oh, I love that. I love that, and so so
and very no.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
I just I want to know, like why why you
decided to start this and launch this website? Like what
what was the meaning behind all of it?
Speaker 4 (39:44):
You know, I've been conceptualizing the space for a little
over a year. My grandmother passed away a little over
a year ago, and you know, she's, you know, the
most important person in my life. And it was just
a really heavy loss and when I certainly the biggest
loss I had as an adult. And I just found
it really difficult to process it in today's world, right,
(40:06):
you know what I mean, which is you have this
this heartbreak or this gaping loss, and yet you know
you have emails answer and you know someone wants you
to look at something on Instagram or whatever.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Life doesn't stop.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
Life doesn't stop. And yet so it was It was
a real kind of disconnect for me, and I thought,
if I could create a space that I can communicate
a little deeper, lean into the vulnerability, expose myself a
little more, talk about things that are interesting, talk about
things that are a little difficult to talk about, but
all through the lens of kindness and love, and you know,
(40:39):
not not in a big at some cheesy way, but
really just saying hey, like let's look at let's look
at this side of the coin. It helped me, like really,
it helped me move through that time of my life
understanding that I was going to create something from it
and I and I was really nervous to do it,
(40:59):
to be honest, I was nervous. Yeah, I was nervous
to do it because people might know me is you know,
I mean, you guys know me really well. But I
think you know, you're exposed. I'm exposed as an actress.
I'm exposed as as someone of notoriety.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
But oh, but you like putting yourself out there, yeah, really, like.
Speaker 4 (41:16):
Hey, you know, this is this is me, this is
Kate the human and you know, these are these are
things that are tough things to talk about or you know,
to talk like great.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
Agam But you're right it because you know what you're
known as, Kate, glamorous movie star fashions, right like.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
Going to the met Gallas, starring in epic films.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
But it is brave of you to put something out
like that because I think today, with what's going on
in the world, it's more relevant than ever right now.
And I think it's very cool when people like yourself
who don't have to do this, like you literally could
sit home, take the phone call, show up on the movies.
You know, do do your thing, do what you do.
You know people know you as. But when you pivot
(41:56):
and do something completely out of the wheelhouse and for people,
you're doing it to send a message and bring people together,
it is brave and I think that's very commendable. It's
a big deal because you're you're doing that out of
your passion. You're not doing it because somebody, yeah told
you this is what you're supposed to do. And I
think that's that's very brave.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
Thank you so much, And you're right, Randall, it is.
It's it's a real passion project, you know, labor of love.
It's literally myself. I write every word. The design is
everything is is you know, wow decided. I mean there
there's no big like production team. It's myself and like
two girlfriends who are so amazing to help me with this,
(42:37):
you know. But but it really is. It's when I
said in my founder's leto, this is a handmade destination.
I really mean it.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
You know.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
Wow. I love that. I love that. I love that.
It's like you're not fucking busy enough already, and then
you throw this new company and it's like you really
are how to common causing it. But I think it's
amazing because I think that, you know, you're always creating.
I know you for that. I know you're always trying
to be you know, in the front lines and groundbreaking
and roles you choose and things you do. And I've
(43:05):
always been mad respect from from eighteen years ago and
even when we just worked together recently on this movie.
It's always You're always evolving. I've never hung out with
you or you and Mike Michael where it's like kind
of the same. It's always different, it's always unique. And
we also, you know, you always have such a great
attitude towards everything. Really is very positive.
Speaker 4 (43:25):
Yeah, we feel the same. We feel the same about
you guys.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
If there's not laughter between us, I don't know what
I mean. If we're not. If we can go months
and I can walk into your office and we just
start that.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
And it's like yesterday, it's like yesterday for all of
a sudden, That's what I love. Like even we got
on when we traveled to Puerto Rico, hanging out together
for the you know, it's like it's like it was
yesterday on Wonderland or ninety minutes and half.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
A true friendship where you can pick up where you
left off.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
Because everybody gets busy. Everybody's got family and this and
work and blah blah blah, and but you you know,
it's like when you could pick off a pick up
where we left off and it's the same. That's where
you know the friendship.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
And we're very comfortable with our job, we know our roles,
we stay in our lanes exactly when we laugh. It's
really about friendship. It's you know, I remember sitting in
Albacino's living room with you, a big deal.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
That I was there. Hold on, I just want to
say we were in al Pacino's living room, yes, you
by the way, we we went on I want to
just set the tone and then Michael waiting to finish.
We walked in. There was no air conditioning on. You
know that, right, Michael, Remember it was one hundred degrees.
Speaker 3 (44:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
And we sat and I thought it was going to
be like a thirty minute little coffee meeting that we
had to catch up on some notes on the movie.
How many hours were we there? Oh my god, we were.
Speaker 3 (44:45):
We were We were into the We were into a
couple of digits easily.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
We were there a long time.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
What's amazing is how fun those moments to me are,
and they're not stressful moments that yeah we're it's you know,
it's it's a guy sitting at a table and sitting
in his couch and go, yeah, we're all with al Pacino.
But how easy we flatten that and make it between friends,
and you know, it's creative. And and we were talking
to Al about money and making money and because he's
(45:14):
had some financial things where he made a lot of
money one time, he did make around of me at
certain times and and Randa, you said, you know, living
on a budget and looking at budget and he go,
and you both think we he was like, don't want
a budget, just make more money.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
Yeah, that's amazing. I want to have that.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Outlet you know. It's great. Great, then I'm fucked. Okay,
but I will say, you know, Michael, it is always
that way. And even sitting in a room with the
giant of al Pacino, it does feel like friends hanging
out trying to create and fix things, like when we're
working on the movie and trying to make edits better
and stuff. And I will say that that's why I
(45:53):
text you the days said of another script for you,
because I feel like if we're not doing a movie
every year together and Kate and all of us or
every year and a half, then we're then we're screwing
ourselves because it is fun to create with family that
you trust and everybody does their job really freaking well.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Can you guys please put Kate and I in a
movie together. I will have anially for this ship. I
don't give a damn.
Speaker 4 (46:15):
Make it happen, dude, Felma and Louise. Man, I'm all
in with.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
You, and you know so in Kate, we got to
get it pop in Man.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
We're announcing it right now, Okay.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
Oh my god, this will be this will be everywhere
in the trades, so it'll be like Lala and Kate
secure the sequel rights the Felm and Louise Michael directing,
Randall producing Boom.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (46:36):
I love the headline, but actually, you know, Randall, it's
it's true because like we Michael and I were actually
looking at each other yesterday and he was like talking
about something he was doing and he and he was like, oh,
we should get Lala in it, and like Randall should
be part of this, and it's like I think that,
Like that's like my favorite thing about filmmaking, Like when
you can identify people that you love and trust like
to get it done and also have like the best time,
(46:58):
Like why would you do with any one else?
Speaker 2 (47:01):
I agree and I and I and I. Anything you
guys have, I always say, bring it to me because
I love working with both of you and Lala and I.
You know, I have a script I'm going to send
you hopefully today, but like let's let's put it together
because the world is so crazy. That is the appreciation
now I have for friendships like this and Lala and
I want to talk about this. It's like I cherish
(47:23):
them tenfold, you tenfold.
Speaker 3 (47:25):
Yeah, Hey, Lala, yes, Hey, I just wanted to say
one thing. This is you know, your name comes first
on this title.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
So I love that I have a choice.
Speaker 3 (47:34):
Yeah, you know that's what I mean. I mean, you know,
random me and you are the best second place players.
Speaker 2 (47:39):
There are best ever best second places. Yeah, second place.
By the way, second place to our women is.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
The way for your chicks is like super hot. I'm
just gonna say that.
Speaker 3 (47:53):
I remember two vivid things other than carrying a football
and throwing football with you with Alpatina, you know, is
her walking around with a whopper? Ye? Yeah, she walk
with a whopper. And I just said, god, it's like
that's the way I met Kate and a bar once.
She was eating a hamburger and she split it in
(48:13):
half for a man, like that's the girl where.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
You sea story? Can we reach? Let's just try one second.
I want to hear your romantic side to Kate and Michael.
Michael's asking you, was it love at first sight? When
we went to dinner that night at how can you
do it in a different way? Try?
Speaker 1 (48:30):
Actually I touched his leg under the table and then
we made eye contact and we knew right then that
it was like love at first sight.
Speaker 2 (48:40):
Okay, period, don't say anything. I'm gonna stop because you
know what, Michael, Michael, you know what follows at we
went to bang Town all night first.
Speaker 3 (48:50):
You know what when you one thing about getting butterflies,
you know when you first meet somebody and you get butterflies,
is that the butterfly looks in the mirror and says, fuck,
there's no going back.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Oh, Michael, you're full of great things today. Write like
a little coffee table things.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
It's so good, guy, I want to get out of
like a coon and goes Fuck, that's exactly what it is. Fuck.
I was so cozy for such a long time.
Speaker 1 (49:19):
I know, I feel uncomfortable. And then you're getting married
and having you know, you have stup babies.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
It's like amazing, Well, how long have you guys now
been together? How many years?
Speaker 3 (49:29):
Almost ten years?
Speaker 2 (49:30):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (49:31):
Yeah, we're going on. We're sitting on a dime. But
I was gonna ask all sitting on a dime. I
was like, I'm gonna ask all that. I remember when
she had to go up and we were expanding the
scene between her and Al and we were talking about
and and and I said, just fucking give it to him.
Just geared to him, Oh this is He was so
(49:52):
sweet because she was like, yeah, I will, and I
go that's what it takes because it's not about intimidation,
it's about having confidence. Yep, right, And that's what I saw.
I said, just do it again, and we did it again,
and we kept doing it just to see what it
would be like, and he was game for it.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
I got to tell you people haven't seen the movie yet,
but there is a scene that Michael's referring to where
she they approach the stand with the judge and their
their lawyers and legal aids or whatever, and and al
Pacino's is tough based on a true story, really tough
heart fighting lawyer, and Laala questions him and gets in
(50:28):
his face and whips the scene and it's so epic
and I couldn't believe it. Michael. When when I saw
it and you showed it to me, I was like,
that's my lalla, What is going on?
Speaker 1 (50:40):
Michael Polish single handedly helped me get to a place
where when the scene was over, al Pacino said to me,
you're really good. And I was like, thank you so much,
and he goes, no, you are really good. And I
looked at Michael, and I was like, Michael got me there.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
The best day of your life.
Speaker 1 (50:58):
For really, that's the best day of my life out
meeting me.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
Best day of your life. I want to say one
other things. I want to say one other thing that
I remember that night because you came home and we're
at the hotel and you came home and said that
you're like the high you were on. You just said
what Michael did for me today and that performance was
life changing and I hadn't seen anything.
Speaker 1 (51:18):
The closest I'll get to doing a drug ever in
my life.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
Yes, I'm proud of you.
Speaker 1 (51:24):
Before we let you guys go slay the day, I
want to know what your most favorite thing to do
in quarantine is together, besides having besides going to Banktown.
Speaker 2 (51:34):
Yeah, besides there we go again, back to bangtown eating.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Yeah, you know, going to Banktown. But I mean it's
always about bank Town, isn't it? Eating town?
Speaker 4 (51:50):
You see my Instagram, like Michael is an incredible baker.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Instagram, My mouth the pies, that's crazy over there.
Speaker 3 (52:02):
And the only person that only comments on my banking
is your freaking mom.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
Oh are you serious?
Speaker 3 (52:09):
She goes, why what are you doing baking?
Speaker 2 (52:12):
That. Why am I?
Speaker 3 (52:13):
She goes, I just why bake it? Just go buy it.
Speaker 2 (52:17):
That's my mom. That's my mom. That's the Jewish father,
the Jewish father.
Speaker 4 (52:21):
Hilarious.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Oh my god, Michael, I didn't even know you guys
had a little Instagram dialogue my mother.
Speaker 3 (52:26):
This is huge. We've had it for oh well it's
not a year yet. But she when there's food, she
always comments like she always comments like a mom. She said,
and you're eating that, how do you stay so thin?
Speaker 1 (52:41):
Yeah, that's her number one thing right now, because she
she'll call me and she'll be like, I've gained so
much weight. I will not be able to fit in
my dress.
Speaker 2 (52:49):
Lola. Oh my mom's can't hear this. She's gonna fucking I.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
Freaking die for Leslie.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
Yeah, we're on great terms.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
By the way, you guys were besties. And by the way,
you'll be on great terms again because the next movie,
you know, Leslam it makes her cameo. So she she
she'll always kiss her ass because you're a director. And
for me, she wants to tell me how many lines
she has to have in my movie. I said, Mom,
you're the fucking talent. Okay, I'll tell you, how many
lies you have in this movie?
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Yeah, I don't even I didn't even think I still
have it. But I filmed your mom talking about you
because I wanted to send it to you one day.
I said Randall was an actor and he could act,
and he was so good, and she's just went down
the list and I and this's the only time I
send it to you. This is the only time you
ever never responded.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
Oh, you have to send it to me. I need
to see it.
Speaker 3 (53:39):
No, No, it was great because I go, of course,
you're not gonna respond to me. That's your mom saying.
Speaker 1 (53:43):
In that Wait, did his mom say he was a
bad actor?
Speaker 2 (53:47):
You're gonna go there, he was a great actor. Lies, Lala, lala.
I was, okay, I'm gonna tell you right now, I
get it. Don't do this. We're not doing this today.
I'm telling you right now. I'm looking you in the eye,
right now, look at me. If we go about it's
a great actor. When I was a kid and I
was not the best actor, but I was good. I was,
but I didn't like it, and I decided that my
(54:09):
obsession was always movies, and I chose to pivot out
of acting okay, And I think it was for the
betterment of the world because people like you, Kate and
every other actor out there. I give Mad respect. Like Michael,
I'm very much like Michael. I could never do it
at the level you guys do it at. I give
you Mad props. It's a gift, it's a talent that
(54:32):
you have to work on and a skill. And as
a kid, I think it was just fun and I
was good at it as a kid, but it definitely
was not my calling. And when I walked on to
my first movie set at nineteen years old, I just knew.
I knew that that's the last thing I'm going to
do is be an actress. So I save the world.
I save the world from it.
Speaker 3 (54:49):
Yeah, but I want, I really really want you to
be in front of the camera for one of my
I can see what you can do. It'd be awesome
for you just to go tucking off. I mean, like
it wouldn't be great, you know, you know, we can
push him to the level.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
Of oh my god. Okay, Michael, I'll make a deal
with you if on the next movie that we do together,
if there's a role that's easy and we have at
least four shots of Johnny Walker blue. I will try
one or two lines. That's as far as I go.
Speaker 3 (55:19):
I just want you to.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
Czy.
Speaker 3 (55:24):
I just want you to kick somebody in the phase
or something.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
Okay, I could be like a karate kid.
Speaker 3 (55:31):
Karate kids getting real, like put somebody's face and gravel
or something. You know, your real visual.
Speaker 1 (55:39):
We can tell. Look at this director at work right now.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
I know.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:43):
Do you see how good he is? You know how
many people have asked me because you know, obviously I
have a larger than like personality. They think that translates
to acting, which it doesn't. But so I always say
no because I have respect for people that really can act.
But Michael just manipulated me into saying yes. That's how
good he fucking is.
Speaker 4 (55:58):
That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
Well.
Speaker 4 (56:01):
I love that the headlines from this are going to
be Randall I met is now a movie star. Oh god, Hey,
and Loheart are embarking on thumb on the wheels too.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Let him talk, Let him talk, baby, And you guys
have to promise that when we when everything's back to normal,
that you will come over or we'll come to you
and you bake us something super yummy.
Speaker 4 (56:21):
Oh my God, anytime, as soon as as soon as
we can be in each other's arms again. I have
to say, Lala, because you and I met more recently
than I've known Randall, and I've known and love Randall
for a long time. But I have to say to
everyone listening that the moment that I met you on
that plane, you know, it was less than five minutes
(56:42):
that I was cad I ride or die?
Speaker 2 (56:45):
Oh die? You guys, it was like, I don't know
what with a girl version, but you know how we
say it's a romance, it's whatever that yes is. Because
I was back there and I said, oh, this is
Lawa and You're like, I know, Lenna, And within six
minutes I was kicked, kicked out of where you you
were sitting.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
Yeah, it was essentially girl times.
Speaker 2 (57:02):
Yeah. It was Michael and I in the in the
in the other part of the plane, and just you.
Speaker 1 (57:05):
Michael was in Puerto Rico filming.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
It was just me. It was already doing the movie,
was already okay that I was with my assistant, probably
talking about something because you didn't get me.
Speaker 4 (57:14):
Making the movie.
Speaker 1 (57:15):
Yeah, probably making the movie.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
It was five and a half hours of basically isolation.
I was isolated.
Speaker 4 (57:20):
This is I just I love you both. You know, honestly,
you're like I love that You're just You're real Israel
can be your your ride or die. You're like, you're
We're the same, you know. I love that about this
this group.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
I love it too, and I'm so grateful that you
guys joined us today on our podcast. This is probably
my new favorite podcast that I've done.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
I agree affurently.
Speaker 3 (57:39):
You know, when it becomes you, when it becomes second place,
we love that too.
Speaker 2 (57:45):
If we get Obama, you'll go to second place. But
until then, yeah, your first place exactly. We love you guys.
Speaker 1 (57:51):
All right, well, I love you.
Speaker 4 (57:54):
