Battle Boy from the Parts Unknown Studiosinto the Battle Crowd, Battle Clown,
the battle Bound, battle the BattleBrown. Welcome to the Battleground Podcast,
your place for all things pro wrestling. Little Crowd, the Blattle Brown,
(00:24):
the Battle Brown now making their wayto the microphone and set it up for
your hosts, the Battle Crowd.Yeah, what's up you guys. Welcome
back into iHeartRadio's official wrestling podcast, the Battleground Podcast. And man, this
has been a guy that we havebeen trying to get on the show for
(00:45):
a long time for years, andhe has eluded us every time we've sent
in requests into people. But nowwe finally have him on the show.
Mister Leo Rush joins us. Leo, how are you doing, sir?
I'm doing pretty good man, Thankyou for having me on here. I'm
laughed. We to finally make thishappen. I am definitely glad that we
were able to take out some timeof your busy schedule. I mean,
(01:07):
you're just out there traveling worldwide. You've got wrestling, you've got music,
you've got acting. I'm assuming you'vegot everything going on in Leo's Rush,
so carving out you know, tenfifteen minutes of your time. Thank you
for doing that for us, Yes, sir, no, thank you.
So let's talk about this. Imean, you've competed on some of the
biggest stages in professional wrestling, soit was only a matter of time before
we saw you back into impactoring. How is Impact different from you know,
(01:32):
other places that you've been and whatdrew you to Impact. Well, now
that I'm actually in the locker roomand I've been in the Impact zone a
couple of times now, I definitelyfeel the energy. The energy is a
lot different, and I feel likethe energy is different coming off of the
(01:55):
actual wrestlers. There are a lotof hungry people there, and hungry in
a different way you hear you knowthe term hunger and wrestling a lot and
um, but I definitely feel likethat, you know, they've got something
to prove, all of those allof those guys and girls and superstars,
(02:15):
and they know it, they knowwhich they should m This is the place
to be. This is why I'mhere. I'm not going to waste my
time. You definitely, Impact isthe place to be and I'm glad that
I'm that I'm there. Yeah,And that's the thing is, like we
(02:37):
we you know, we've done severalof these interviews with Impact wrestlers and all
the people that have been, youknow, to different companies, and everybody
has that same answer that you justhad. Impact is a different breed.
They're hungry, they're there to work, and you could genuinely tell when you're
watching Impacts product like it is funlike it is, I mean you're glued
to the TV the entire time.Yeah. Yeah, it really is a
(03:00):
different kind of atmosphere and which makesit so so different than than everywhere else.
It's amazing at this point in wrestlingthat so many, you know,
different companies can be different in theirown ways, but Impact is different,
and it's different in its own way, in its own unique way, and
it is fiery, and it ismotivating and m it makes you want to
(03:23):
be better. It makes you wantto work harder than you've ever worked before
in your life because all eyes areon you and that camera is one and
yeah, and that's the thing. It's like, you know, and I
we've talked about this before with numerouspeople like I was there from the inceptions
of the old NWAT and a daysfrom like the fairgrounds and watching it progress
(03:44):
into what it is now like itit is up there with the big boys,
and it's it's a product that youknow, you know, people don't
really pay attention to it, butit's one of those things now that people
are like, oh, we gotto start paying attention to Impact because Leo's
there, Trinity's there, Nick, all the rolls in there, like big
name people are showing up and beinglike, we're here to play and we're
not taking mistaking it. There's areason. There's a reason why. Absolutely
(04:10):
so. The MotorCity machine Guns, you know, now hold two of the
biggest singles prizes in Impact wrestling.Let me ask you this, how influential
are the guns and what do theymean to Impact wrestling in your eyes?
To Impact wrestling, I mean whatdo they mean to an entire generation,
multiple generations. They are the XDivision, They are Impact wrestling. Going
(04:39):
into this match, is is morethan just a statement match to me,
It is a dream match. Itis a dream match to me, which
will quickly turn into a nightmare forsaying, but this is a dream match
for me. I grew up watchingthe most of the machine guns. I
(05:00):
I've teamed with the Motor City machineGuns last earlier in my career, so
I know how much this match meansto me. It's more than just about
the title. Yes, the titleis on the line, which is the
most important thing, but they areother factors there that makes this match a
big deal for me, and I'msure it's a big deal for Satan for
(05:23):
very similar reasons. So yeah, this is going to be a match for
the books for sure now. AndI will tell you, and you can
ask a lot of people on thatroster, and you can ask other people
as well, people that come ontothis show. When they go on to
wrestle for the gold, they goon and win the gold. So you're
in good hands because I mean thishas happened numerous times. People come on
(05:46):
the show and they're wrestling for thetitle days after what they are on the
show, and they win. So, Leo, I think you're gonna be
taking some extra stuff with you onthat airplane. I think I'm in good
hands. I think it definitely endsa good hands with us. We're gonna
make sure that you, you know, leave with some hardware after the Impact
shows this week. I appreciate thatI need, I need to catch up
to you with all those titles inthe back. I mean, yeah,
(06:09):
we could, I could, wecould trade. We could we talk of
nothing. Oh yeah, we couldtalk off fair. I could send you
some stuff that way you can havesome as well. I'll send you some
stuff. Appreciate that. So,I mean, let me ask you this.
And we've we've talked about your bigmatches happening at Slammiversary and it's in
Canada. But I mean, you'vealways found a way to stand out with
(06:30):
wherever you're at, right when itcomes to being in the ring, what
is your mindset when your opponent isannounced and how do you go about making
sure that you stand out in yourmatches? To just be me, I
feel like a lot of people liketo see matches that they're announced, and
they like to see the opponent thatthey're going to be wrestling, and they
go straight to study and take Theygo straight to I'm gonna do what I
(06:58):
do regardless they watch me, theyneed to study me. The question is
how am I gonna stop Leo Russian? Not the other way around. Exactly.
I'm an artist, I'm I'm I'ma master at my craft. I'm
good at what I do because Ido it in a way that works best
for me. I go in there, I feel it out in the moment,
(07:19):
I feel like what my opponent isdoing. My speed is my ultimate
advantage. So whatever he tries todo, or whatever he tries to adapt
to or call an horble on hismove, sat, it doesn't matter.
I'm gonna, I'm gonna get away, I'm gonna I'm gonna get to where
I want to be, and I'mgonna I'm gonna strike with position. So
(07:42):
um yeah, yeah, that's mythat's my take on that. Okay,
that's a that's a solid take.Now let me ask you this, because
you look at the lineage of youknow, the X Division who's held that
title from Samoa, Joe, ajStyles, sabing Uh, the list goes
on and on and on. Whatwould it mean for Leo Rush to become
(08:05):
X Division champion? It would meaneverything. It would mean everything. It
would it would show everybody that Iam here to stay for one. It
will show everybody that I have wona title almost everywhere I've been. It
(08:31):
would it would be the icing onthe cake. Impact is a title that
I've seen visually when I was akid and actually said I need that title.
Yeah, any other title that I'vethat I've seen. Yes it looks
(08:54):
cool, Yes it looks cool onother people, but it doesn't have the
gravitational pull to me. Then thatX Division title I was I was born
to be an X Division champion.I am the X Division at least,
I'm the new age of the XDivision, and I feel like I'm a
(09:15):
perfect leader to bring in that newage. So that title looks really good
and I'm gonna I'm gonna take it. I mean, I mean, when
you have that big X on thefront of it. I know a lot
of people are like the cliche oflou you'll have an X on your back
when you win that. But Idon't think if you know when you win
the title, because we're putting thatout in the universe, when you win
the title, I don't think youreally have to be looking over your shoulder
wondering who's going to come after you, because I mean, I don't think
(09:37):
anybody's gonna be able to beat LeoRush when it says Leo Rush X Division
Champion. Yeah, and that Xis not on my back. That X
is right in front of me.So whoever wants to try to step in
front of me and take it thenmore than women because I'm not back and
down absolutely, So you know, over the years, I mean, you've
achieved success and not only the ring, but also as a musician and a
(10:00):
rapper. Let me ask you this, I mean, you wear a lot
of hats. How do you balanceyour various artistic endeavors with your wrestling career?
And also, can we inspect anynew music releases or collapse coming up
later this year? I know we'reonly halfway through the year. Of course,
of course I'm always working on something. You know, not everything is
(10:20):
always publicized, but I'm always workingon something, so you can expect more
projects from me. You can't expectmore things from me outside of wrestling.
At the end of the day,it is it is bigger than wrestling,
you know. Leo Rush is abrand, a worldwide brand. I want
to bring things to impact wrestling, and I want to bring impact wrestling to
(10:43):
the things that I'm doing. Soit's it's all together, It's all one,
and you can expect more of it. So yes, awesome. We're
looking forward to getting some new musicfrom Leo Rush this year. Is there
I guess any other fellow musically inclinedwrestlers that you would love to collaborate with
in the studio. There are afew. There are a few that I'm
(11:09):
thinking about, but I will notgive away those names. Well, we'll
wait till we get that drop onon threads now that everybody's there. If
Leo Rush dropped a new song withsuch and such, yes, okay,
yeah, well well we'll wait forthat. We will let it marinate and
we'll be all surprised because we don'twant the dirt sheets coming after being like,
oh, Leo Rush said this, this, this, So we'll let
(11:30):
everybody know when Leo Rush wants justnow was coming. That's all you need
to know. If you're excited,if you like music, if you love
music, be a fan of me. If your fan of wrestlers who do
music, wait on it, beexcited for it. It's coming. I'm
getting very very excited about that.So here's something fun that we have started
(11:50):
doing on the show. We haveturned to our robot producer. We have
turned to the AI chat robots andwe've said, ask Leo Rush one question,
and of course they all want toask about the past. We're not
talking about the past. We're herefor the present. We're here for the
future. But the one question thatthey did have was a very good one.
As a versatile performer, you've shownyour skills in both singles competition and
(12:13):
tag team matches. Are there anyspecific dream opponents or potential tag team partners
that you have in mind for thefuture, and you know, what kind
of impact do you hope to makein the wrestling landscape moving forward? Wow,
any dream tag opponent, tag teampartners, or opponents. I really
(12:37):
try not to think too hard andto the future as far as dream opponents
or dream matchups, because you neverknow what's going to happen. You never
know what's going to happen in theworld of professional wrestling. You never know
who's gonna get swooped up, younever know who's gonna stop wrestling, you
(12:58):
never know who's going to be injured. So I try to I think I
think the beauty of wrestling is thingshappening within the moment and capturing that moment
and being in that moment. Sowhatever whatever you know moment comes, you
know I'll be ready for it.I hope that's not I hope that's the
I know that's not the answer thatyou're looking for but I think I think
(13:24):
any match that I have right now, within within this moment that we're currently
and I feel like it's going tobe a dream match because I feel like
I'm on top of my game.I feel like I can put on performances
that I haven't been able to puton before. I feel like I'm growing,
I'm elevating, I'm getting better,I'm progressing literally every single hour of
(13:48):
every single day. And yeah, there's so many people out there. There's
so many people out there, butyeah, you got to be at the
right place at the right time forsure. So you know, and again
we're putting it out the universe. You when the exhibition title come, you
(14:09):
know, this week at Slam Aniversary, after you beat after you win,
is there anybody on that locker room, on that roster that you want to
tangle it up with? Or doyou just say, you know what,
here we go. Anybody I'm outhere, just go with it. Line,
I'm up, That's what I gottasay. Is there is? But
I mean, I know that alot of people are gonna be lining up
(14:31):
to try to come after that exhibsiontitle when you win it, because see
what we're doing is we're saying whenyou win it, because you will.
Is there like one person in particularthat you want to be that first person
to at least attempt to challenge you? Give me Chris saving again. Okay,
tell people that it's not a fluke. Okay, I mean I did
(14:52):
that. And you know, ifwhen you win and you get saving again,
do you want to set the stipulationsor you just wanted to be a
normal one one match. We'll lethim decide, Okay. I like that.
Leo Rush, your new X Divisionchampion, joins us on the show
because we're saying that we're putting itout there in the universe again. I
just want to say thank you fortaking the time out and hanging out with
