Clippers Take Down the Mavs in Game 7, 126-111, as They Move on to Play the Utah Jazz

percent below their average percentage from threein the first six games of this series,
while watching Dallas hit everything, hittingsix percent above what they shot in

the regular season from three, theClippers finally found their range from three.
They hit twenty of them, andseven of them in Game seven were hit
by Marcus Morris Senior. He wasone for ten in Game six. He's
stepped up. He hit one ofthe biggest shots of this game. It

would also be a three pointer.Reggie Jackson hit two huge threes dagger threes
late in the fourth quarter to keepLuka Doni and the Dallas Mavericks at bay
as they were trying to come back. The Clippers led by fourteen entering the
fourth. They had it down toten at one point. They had it
down to seven at one point aftera Luka dontchitch made three step back ridiculous

shot over Kawhi Leonard Well contested.Doesn't matter. Luca finishes with forty six
but doesn't get the victory. Andwhat did we talk about before Game one
of this series. Let Luca gethis stop, everybody else and they were
able to do that. Chris STAPsPorzingis, while he played better and got
off to a hot start, hadten points by the time the seconds quarter

rolled around, finished with just sixteenO five from three. Tim Hardaway Junior,
who had been a thorn in theClippers side all series long, he
struggled one of nine from three,just eleven points on five of fourteen shooting.
Dorian Finney Smith still went four ofseven from distance with eighteen points,
but couldn't get a couple to fallin that fourth quarter, and after Luca

had twenty nine points in that firsthalf, he would have just seventeen in
the second half. Kawhi Leonard acceptedthe challenge in game six, he asked
for that matchup, and he playedhim well again here tonight today from Staples.
In Game seven, he is thebest two way player in the league.

Kawhi finished with twenty eight points onten to fifteen shooting. It is
the fourth game in this series wherehe hit at least sixty six percent of
his attempts from the field. He'sbeen the best player so far in these
playoffs. You can talk about Lucadon Chiche, but he's not given it
to you. Defensively, like KawhiLeonard has four steals for the claw,

ten boards, one assist, shyof having that triple double, a big
time block on Dorian Finny Smith inthe fourth quarter out of nowhere. It
was like Kawhi Leonard teleported. Hehad one of those steals two on Luca
Dontae in the fourth where he cameout of nowhere because he was everywhere.
He was omnipresent, and the Clippersgot their gift Clipper Nation. You win

victorious at Staples Center after being downO two with the first two games at
Staples Center. They are just thesixth team ever to come back and win
a series after starting off O two, with both of those games being at

home. The Clippers had to winthree must win games in this series.
Really, Game three you had towin because you couldn't go down two games
and none or three games and nine. Game six you had to win.
Obviously, that was a true mustwin game with them down three games to
two, and then it was winnertake all and Game seven here and the

Clippers stepped up and they had theirbest shooting performance from three of the series.
They got to all the loose ballsin the second half. They crashed
the boards. They had just oneoffensive rebound in the first half, they
had seven in the second half.And while Paul George struggled with the shot
five of fifteen two of eight fromdistance, he went ten of ten from

the free throw line, and thebest shooting free throw team all time.
In the regular season, your LosAngeles Clippers had just over eighty four percent,
would go twenty four of twenty fourfrom the free throw line. Here
in Game seven, Paul George wasten of ten, Kawhi Leonard was seven
of seven. Their strengths all seasonlong finally showed up when they needed them

most. This team is one ofthe best shooting teams in NBA history during
the regular season forty one point onepercent from three, fourth best all time,
but they've been doing it at ahigher volume than those three other teams.
Luke Kennard, who didn't even getinto meaningful minutes in this series until

Game six, he ends up playingfifteen minutes tonight. In Game seven,
goes three of five from three afterhe was one of four without a made
three pointer in Game six. Hehad eleven points was a plus fourteen out

of everybody who deserves credit for this, Clippers come back down two games and
none, it's your head coach,it's this coaching staff. To Ron Lu
never wavered. He believed in theprocess. He believed in everything they did
during the seventy two game regular seasonthat the numbers would come around and that

guys would stay ready and stepped upwin called upon. Like Terrence Man,
like Luke Kennard. Man had thirteenpoints, He hit two three pointers.
All of his scoring came in thefirst half. And while the Clippers exercised
some demons here in a game seven, after what happened against the Denver Nuggets
last season in that second round,Terrence Man who faltered down the stretch in

Game five, I'm sure it washis own horset critic or toughest critic after
not going for that layup at theend of the game and passing it back
to Nicholas Batoum. The young secondyear player showed no fear in a game
seven, played twenty six minutes,had five boards as well. Hustle plays
defense on Luka Doncich was huge forthem, but Kawhi Leonard whenever they needed

a bucket, someone to stabilize themwhen things got tight, when things got
close, it was Kawhi Leonard makingbig shots. We're having a big two
handed throw down baseline, We're grabbinga board, getting it in those claws
of his. The Clippers just outwilledthe Dallas Mavericks in this hard fought seven

game series. Tip your cap toRick Carlisle and Luca Dontchich in these Mavericks.
They played some spectacular basketball those firstthree games, shooting fifty one percent
from three. For the Clippers tocome back and win this series with the
offensive juggernaut that we saw in Lucadon Chich and the hot shooting from role
players from the Dallas Mavericks is unbelievableand I think it's exactly what they have

needed to get over the hump toface adversity like this and come through and
pull through and fight and get throughthat finish line. It wasn't always easy.
They were down nineteen in Game three. Early on, they could have
folded. This team is just relentless. They have that resolve, that resilient

nature we've talked about all season long, which is why I said early on.
I think it was after the twentytwo point comeback in Atlanta, fueled
by Luca Nard and Arn's Man thatthis team is different. When the going
gets tough, they are at theirbest. And they were in the fourth
quarter when they needed some big shotsto answer Luca dontae ridiculous step back threes

where he shot. I think goinginto game six he was sixty percent on
step back three pointers. Luca DontaCan you imagine that he was one off
the all time record scoring record ingame seventh tonight with forty six. The
Clippers survived it. They had toget to those fifty fifty balls. They

had to get on the boards.It was a bugaboo in the first half.
At the end of that second quarter, they had a chance to go
up double digits. It didn't happenbecause Dorian Finney Smith had multiple offensive rebounds
on them. Dallas had multiple secondchance opportunities that they converted on, and
they made that adjustment in the secondhalf. They got to those boars,

and they had to do it bycommittee because when you're going small and there
were extreme contrasting styles in this seriesfrom really game four on, with Rick
Carlisle electing to go big with Bobieand Chris STAPs in the starting lineup and
Coach Lu going small with Nicholas Batumas his five. It was really a

chess match. It's overused, butit felt like that all series long.
And then whose move was going toget them a victory in Game seven?
And I thought the one thing thatCoach Lu still had in his bag was
his depth and going to Luke Canardin game six and getting him some run

out there and then saying post gamehe'll have more confidence in game seven because
of this. It worked. Hewas spot on. He pushed all the
right buttons the right time you haveto when you're down two games to none,
when you're down three games to two. Coach Lou put on a masterclass
in coaching in this first round series. And there's a lot of people that

are gonna be on the apology tourafter they were down two games and none.
Couple I know more on that maybelater in the show. Clippers win

this is who they have been.They didn't lose two games in a
row very often. When they hadpoor performances, they bounced back. I'm
thinking of game when they were inthat two game mini series in Memphis against
the Grizzlies, got beat by twentyfive in the first game, came back
around the very next night one bytwenty five. When they lost a twenty
two point lead in a two gamemini series in game one's of the Golden

State Warriors and Steph Curry. Theylost that first game, they came back
the very next game and won.They just battle and as Noah Eagle was
talking about postgame, they're more battletested. They're better off four this series
going to seven games, They're gonnahave all the confidence in the world.

played just three minutes tonight, wehardly saw Patrick Beverley. I think that
could change quickly. That's what's sogreat about this Clippers team. They have
so many guys that if you needthem in a certain matchup, they're ready,

they've had all season long. Juststay ready. It started with Patrick Patterson,

they just seemed to find themselves playingbetter because of it. It's been
like that old season long last year. They wilted at times in big moments,

Well, they face some adversity,up by just seven after being up
by I want to say nineteen atone point in the fourth quarter, but
Luca Nanchich continued to hit ridiculous shotsfrom the outside and it was just about
a seven point game with five minutesleft. In fact, it was a

seven point game with two minutes left. Reggie Jackson, though, would hit
a twenty six foot three pointer offan assist from Kawhi Leonard the perimeter,
passing the ball movie in this game. This is what we have seen through
most of the season, and thisis what has led to the Clippers hitting
so many three pointers at such ahigh rate. That says a high percentage,

because the ball movement, because gettinginto the paint and then spraying it
out and guys looking for one anotherand trusting each other and having that confidence
to put him up from the outside. But to do it in a game
seven, To have this experience ofbeing in such a tough series against in
all time great playoff performer, Imean, I'm I'm good with saying that.

Now I've seen enough from Luca donChich. He's been ridiculous in these
two first round series. He's onlybeen in the playoffs twice, but he
has definitely showed up and has donesome historic things and the Clippers overcame it.
Anyways, That's just so rare tosee because you could start to feel
like it's just destiny for Luca.He can't miss, He's gonna continue you

to hit these ridiculous shots and there'snothing we can do about it, and
you can have that doubt creep inand it can mess with your game,

The only person who's been better inthese playoffs has been Kawhi Leonard.
He has had to raise his game. Iron sharpens iron with Luca doing what
he did, Kawhi Leonard ends upshooting over sixty percent from the field in
this series well, playing great defense. Lucas shot under forty percent when he
was guarded by Kawhi Leonard in theseries. He was by far the best

defender as you would expect, butit was difficult to get a beat on
him because well, they're setting somany screens. Luca is hunting for that
mismatch and that weakness out there allthe time. But it's been the adjustments
by coach Lew that has been thedifference. With the Clippers coming back,
and you mentioned to Marcus Cousins there, Mitch, we may see him in

the next series. There's a differentchallenge now and Rudy Gobert out there now.
I still think the Clippers are gonnago small like they did in that
last game against the Utah Jazz hereat Staples Center in the regular season where
they beat them going small with NicholasBattuma out there at the five. But
yeah, there's gonna be different matchupsand styles, you know, great fights

or whatever that's saying is styles makefights. It's a whole new challenge with
this Utah Jazz team that's also reallygood from three. So somethings stay the
same. But this series going throughand having this adversity and having this experience
of having to play seven games tocome out of it, to survive,

I think it's invaluable for this Clippersteam. I think it's gonna do wonders

from the outside. They had tohave it, and they hit those shots

you know, it seems like youguys never really but when they got

haters. First it was you're gonnaget swept by the Dallas Mavericks. Then

it was, okay, you tiedthings up, but Lucas still better and
he's the best player in this seriesand he's gonna win it for them,

they're George Casanza and Seinfeld talking tothe New York Yankees. Yeah, you
won in six games. But thereare two other teams that struggled like this

early on in the playoffs that wouldgo on to win it all. Back
in two thousand and eight, theBoston Three Party plus Rondo, they went
seven games in the first round againstthe Atlanta Hawks and Mike Bibbie and I

no longer in doubt. He playsabout ten minutes in Game six and then

I mentioned earlier, I'm sure wasdown on himself at one point because he
didn't take that layup at the endof Game five, but it didn't phase
him. He was unflappable and inGame seven played great defense, but his
offense showed up. Normally, we'retalking about Terrence Man and the plus minus
and just what he did with theintangibles and the defense and the rebounding.

No, he was five of ten, he was two of three from distance,
had all thirteen of his points inthe first half when the Clippers were
making their run after being down.I want to say it was, yeah,

for them, and they got outof this series. Even with Rajon Rondo
struggling the last three games. Ithought he was huge in the first four,

than the team that was throwing anythingthey could find towards the locker room by
blowing two games at Denver last year, or do you think they just flat

Denver in the first round, andyou could see some players as so frustrated,
throwing things down as they walked upthe court. Twice they had six
point leads in the last minute anda half and could not hold them off.

round three games to one, justlike the Clippers were on Denver in the

second round, and Noah Eagle broughtthis up earlier, but Denver coming back
on them being down three games toone, I'm sure gave them confidence going
up against the Clippers when they gotinto that same scenario and they felt like
they were going to play their bestwhen their best was required, when their
backs were against the wall. Nowthe Clippers have gone through some serious adversity,

down two games to none, downtwo in this series, they came
back to win. Anyways, they'regonna have that confidence too. But Utah
was missing Boyan Magdanovitch in that firstround series last year, and there were
some crazy things happening obviously in thebubble Jamal Murray and Donovan Mitchell in that
first round series, putting up multiplefifty point games back and forth. And

don't get me wrong, Donovan Mitchellis big time. If you watch that
series his rookie season against the OKCThunder and Paul George and Russell Westbrook his
first playoff series, people were talkingabout him having that same early success that
dayne Wade did. He won inhis rookie season. I think it was
against the Charlotte Hornets and Baron Davis, and he has a similar type of

game, but they've surrounded him witha ton of shooting. Roys O'Neil comes
to mind. Very underrated player.Mike Conley Junior's dealing with that hamstring injury,
but he's had a bounce back yearpercentage wise from the outside. Boya
Bogdanovich is healthy, He's had avery good year, although he started off
slow. And obviously they have RudyGobert, one of the best defenders in

the post in this modern era ofbasketball, a two time Defensive Player of
the Year, I believe, andQuinn Snyder is one of the most underrated
coaches out there. The entire teamis underrated because, just like the Clippers,
people are waiting for Utah to proveit or for the Suns to prove
it this season. Prove you're different, prove that you have where it takes

to get to a Western Conference finalsor to the NBA Finals, possibly because
both those teams Utah and the PhoenixSuns top two season in the West,
Utah best record in the league,but people aren't buying in still until they
do it. I do think theClippers This is a decent matchup for them,

despite everything I said about the UtahJazz and how good they are defensively
three but they're gonna have their handsfull. It's a series that is likely
going six or seven games just likethis one, so why not get used
to it right off the bat inthe first round. It's going to be
a grind like this for the Clippersif they are going to get to the
Promised Land. It's not going tobe easy. But you learn a lot

about yourself through the hardships, throughthese type of difficulties, through having to
go against Luca don Chich and theridiculous outside shooting we saw from the Dallas
Mavericks through the first three games inthis series, and finally that three point
shooting for them. While the Clipperswere progressing to the mean, Dallas was

regressing. They hit just ten ofthe thirty six three pointers in this game,
ten less three pointers made by Dallasthan the Clippers, who were due
Coach lu kept preaching it, andhe kept saying, we just can't panic.
Who cares about pressure. We wanta sense of urgency, because you

start panicking, you start thinking abouthow many games you have to win.
In a row to get back intothis series, and how you have to
win two in a row after beingdown three games to two after they lost
Game five. It can overwhelm youand you do have to take it one
game at a time and just figureout a way to win that one game,

survive in advance. And multiple timesnow in this series they won two
games in a row when they hadto. But I think it goes back
to Game three, being down nineteenpoints early. That looked like a game
that the Dallas Mavericks could have justrun away with and they hit twenty three's
and the Clippers still found a wayto win, and it was Kauai and

Paul George leading them when in thatfirst half they were eighteen of twenty two
from the field eighty one percent.It's that shooting percentage. And they came
back and they held on late andthat was the turning point and the belief
started to grow from there. AndKawhi Leonards talk about having that faith and

trusting in teammates and having fun outthere and it's still a game, and
that can ease your nerves too,not just that philosophy or understanding and putting
things in perspective. But it's KawhiLeonard saying it the fun guy and when
