Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to community viewpoints of Shawnee. Feeling blessed and highly favored.
On this Sunday morning, I have the privilege of speaking
to some community advocates in the community, empowering our young
adults and here to provide us a purpose for a party.
So today I have Tracy Porter and Eric Emmons from
the Omega Hope Foundation. Good morning, gentlemen. How are you today? Tracy, Oh,

(00:24):
I'm doing great.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
How about you?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I'm doing well. Glad that we can connect and get
the word out. Every year this event gets more amazing
and you always empower the community. We also have Eric, Eric,
good morning, how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I'm doing well? How about yourself?

Speaker 1 (00:41):
You know, just ready to empower the community with this
amazing event. Eric, talk to us about the Omega Hope Foundation.
How long have you been with that foundation and your
part in the Spring Breeze twenty twenty five Neo Soul Experience.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
So, Mega Hope's been around for probably over seven or
eight years now and we've been doing this event now.
This is our fifth year as we've been doing the
Spring Breeze Golf Tournament, charity golf tournament and Neil's sole
event to the event. And it is as you said,
it's a party with a purpose. It's a reason for

(01:18):
why we do this. This is a major event that
we do every year and it's an experience that we've
created to allow us to be the raise funds so
we can give back to the community. I'll just say
some of the things that we've done because of this
event is we've been able to give out tens of
thousands of dollars in scholarships to send kids to school
to college. We're actually working on being able to build

(01:41):
a program around science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to expose
more kids to those disciplines. And then we do other
things in the community where we give back to the
community for those indeed doing the holidays, thanksgiving things of
that nature, and just being able to have that presence
in the community.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
So well, we appreciate the presence that you bring every
Spring community. Shawnee speaking to Tracy Porter Eric Emmons. They're
here from the Omega Hope Foundation giving us another event
to get out and enjoy but empower our young adults. Tracy,
I understand that this is a scholarship fundraiser. Talk to

(02:21):
us about what that fundraiser or the scholarships, how you
present those to the young adults that get these scholarships.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
This year, as Eric said, it's going to be our
fifth year of having Spring Breeze, and the exciting piece
about this year is that every year we build off
of it.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
So this year we've got an incredible lineup.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Of some of Jacksonville's talented individuals.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
We've got Pierre Kendrick, We've got Jimmy Hendrick coming in
with the guitar, and we've got cats downstairs definitely as
a part of our repeat group that comes in every year,
and we can't forget our DJ DJ Kiky. So we're
excited about the talented line up of people coming to
this event this year. And I tell you, the folks have.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
Typically come out and showed out because they recognize that
we're having fun. But we're doing it, as you said,
for the purpose, and that purpose is to truly give
back to the community in a multitude of ways, which
Eric has talked about.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
So I'm excited.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
I think folks who come this year will see something
a little bit different than they've seen last year. And
all the folks who came back you said, they're coming back,
So we're excited about it.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Each and every year this gets bigger. You offer opportunity
for great entertainment, like you stated, the cats downstairs is
a staple in Jacksonville, and create that noise and entertainment
at a party. Community. Shawnee speaking to the men of
Omega Hope Foundation. They're here to invite you out to

(03:49):
a spring breeze neo soul party. But the reason behind
this is so spectacular because it's empowering our young adults.
Scholarships are being given to these young adults. They're going
to go to college, They're going to just be better
for society. So understand the reason behind or the reason
behind this conversation today with these men. Now, gentlemen, is

(04:11):
there anything that you'd like to share about the Omega
Hole Foundation to the community to just offer them opportunity
to invest in you. What is the website? If they
cannot come to this event, can they donate or are
you still looking for sponsors?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
We're always looking for sponsors, found Shawnee. For sure, yes,
and they can go to the Mega Hope website and
actually be able to make those donations as well. So
Mega Hope Foundation dot Com is actually the website. If
they go to that website, they shouldn't be able to
find the Spring Breeze logo on the page and they

(04:47):
should be able to be a click on that and
from there they could be able to do a donation.
If they want to, they can do a sponsorship. We're
always still looking for sponsors. Every year we're looking for sponsors.
They help grow this because the more funds we can
actually raise, that means that much more we can do
in the community. The more we can give the kids
to be to go to college, the more we can
do to expose kids to STEM and programs like that

(05:11):
in the community. So we really are always looking for
sponsors to help us to be able to kind of
continue what we do in the community, giving back as
we always try to.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Do community Shawnee speaking to Tracy Porter and Eric Emmons.
They are here from the Omega Hope Foundation, and if
you go to the website you'll see that they are
involved with scholarships. They mentor our young adults as well
as they are in the community empowering each and every
month with something to do with our young adults. Gentlemen,

(05:43):
I know you are also a part of Omega Sci
Fi Fraternity incorporated with being in the fraternity. This is
an arm of the fraternity. What does service mean to you?

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Both bring behind me.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
But I tell you you know, FI is built on
four corbor principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
And uplift.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
And when you think about all those things, it's really
about the individual and the contributions that they can continue
to make in their community. And when I think about
just service by itself, it's about thinking about what was
given to me as I've had those opportunities growing up
to be the man that I am, and how I
can continue to serve my community and make sure that

(06:27):
I give back just.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
What was given to me. So that's what I would say.
Shi Traces just kind of mentioned what our fore kind
and principles are really that encomference, what really service is
all about for her Omega man. And you know, our
fraternity is based on a belief for friendship. That is
this interest and soul. So friendship is at the core

(06:49):
of our service as men of Omega. And so what
I have learned through the years, and I've been in
Omega for a couple of decades. Now I won't tell
my trade, but I've been in and for a couple
of day and I've served Omega sincerely to the dares
of my heart. I believe it's all about giving back
and really, to me, what Omega stands for a selfless

(07:11):
acts of service. It's not about self ingrandizement, not about
what i've you know, me being seen for what I've done.
It's about really just doing the service because that's what's needed.
And men of Omega, you know, we need to be
president in the community. I think right now now that
anytime to see men like us, educated African American men

(07:33):
in the community, that's that's significant and it's important. So
we serve a purpose, and so Omega men are always
at the forefront trying to serve that purpose of being
president in the community.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Community. Shawnee speaking to servants of Omega soult five Fraternity Incorporated.
They are here with Omega Hope Foundation providing us another
avenue of getting out, but understanding that what we're doing
is empowering our next generation. So, gentlemen, as we wrap
this up, I know that it's going to be a
great time. Tell us of the date of the event

(08:04):
for the twenty twenty five Spring Breeze and of course again.
The people that.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
Will be there Charny, the Spring Breeze five twenty twenty
five will be April twenty fifth is our golf tournament,
Celebrity Golf tournament and April twenty six the Neil Soul
Music Experience again. The artists that we have coming in
are Pierre kendricks On saxophone, Demi hendricks On guitar, and

(08:34):
then Catch Downstairs will be our closing act. So incredible
entertainment and we hope that folks will come out and
support for this worthy cause.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Community dress to impress. This is an opportunity to get
out and just understand another event is coming to our
cities and understand there's a plethora, but this one brings
you to the Queen's Harbor yacht. Tell us about the
location and understand the ambiance is what really makes that
Saturday event one to look forward to. Get dressed up,

(09:06):
ladies' men, be in your best dress. But tell us
about that Queen's Harbor on Beyonce experience that.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
They would get So, Seannie, I'm glad you brought that up.
So this is going to be at Queen's Harbor. It's
where we actually hosting our event Queen's Harbor Yacht and
Country Club, and it is as a venue that really
gives an ambiance where you know, if you look at
the background, you have the eighteenth hole of the golf
courses in the background, and to the right of us

(09:34):
there's going to be the yachts in the marina there.
And so it gives you an event in an area
of an atmosphere that creates this experience that we're trying
to really develop a grown and sexy, classy kind of event.
And yes, I would say dressed to impress, because this
is that kind of event. But come ready man to

(09:54):
just have a good time, have a great experience, enjoy
meeting new people and bringing some friends with you as
you come along to this event. It is going to
be an exciting event. I always get excited about this
event every year. We work very hard to kind of
put this on so we create the experience that people
walk away remembering and wanting to make sure that they
come back and bring other us the next year.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Community, be sure to check out our community calendar page.
Our information will be there on the event. Again, they
are looking for sponsors. This is an event to empower
our young adults our community advocates out there, be sure
to come out. Community, come on out with me and
let's show support to the Omega Hope Foundation. Seems as

(10:37):
if it's going to be a great event and it's
for a great purpose. Gentlemen, is there anything else that
you would like to share about this event?

Speaker 4 (10:45):
I think you covered it pretty well, Shawna, and.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
We're back with community viewpoints to Shawnie. Feeling blessed and
highly favored on this Sunday morning. We are empowering our community.
We are empowering survivors and fighters out there that are
linked with cancer. So today I have the privilege of
speaking to Amanda Napolitano. She is here with the Donna Foundation. Amanda,

(11:12):
good morning, how are you?

Speaker 6 (11:14):
Good morning? I am wonderful and fabulous. Thank you for
having me.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
You know, when I heard about this and I knew
it was a part of Donna's fight in our community,
I said, why not? Why not get involved and why
not uplift all those that are fighting. So, Amanda, if
you would tell us about your role with the Donna
Foundation and then we'll talk about what's coming up for

(11:39):
Mother's Day.

Speaker 6 (11:41):
Sure? Sure. So I'm the executive director of the Donna Foundation.
I met Donna more than twenty years ago as she
was first launching the Donna Foundation prior to two thousand
and three, and you know, much like many of us,
she cast a vision and I was like, I want
to be a part of this. What can I do

(12:01):
to be a part of this? So I've been on
staff with the Donna Foundation as its executive director for
over fifteen years now. Really blessed and really favored to
be in the role. For sure.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
It's empowering just to be a part of a drive
that empowers a community and save lives. So what do
you think makes a strong community?

Speaker 6 (12:22):
You know what? I think that you know, when we
can see beyond ourselves and recognize through this lens of
love what other people are needing, I think that's really
what makes a strong community. You know, at the Donna Foundation,
we're all about providing hope, support and financial relief for
families living with breast cancer. And it really all got

(12:43):
started when Donna was experiencing her own diagnosis with breast cancer.
You know, at the time, she was anchoring the news
and so she was very engaged in hearing from the
community and she kept hearing story after story about how
their situation, you know, was, I have this diagnosis and

(13:05):
I'm having to choose between putting food on the table
and getting the medicine that I need. And you know,
Donna just couldn't sit and watch that happen, right, you know,
Let's do something about this. Let's lend a hand and
lift these women and their families up and help them
during this time of need. And so that's really how

(13:26):
the Donna Foundation got started, you know, more than twenty
years ago, and we've helped more than twenty thousand families
living with breast cancer over the years and provided them
with you know, six point five million dollars in financial
services and support over that period of time. So and
really it was just about listening, right, understanding people's need,

(13:47):
and taking action to to provide for that need.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Community. Shawnee speaking to Amanda Napolotano. She's here to talk
to us about the Donna Foundation. But there is an
amazing event coming up on Mother's Day. And I love
it that it's on Mother's Day because it empowers the woman,
it empowers people who are empowering that survivor. So talk
to us and tell us how can the community get

(14:13):
involved with the Donna's Mother's Day five k.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
You bet. So each year, you know, many of the
families that we support through the Donna Foundation are moms
with kids at home, and for those of us that
are moms, you know, the kids at home part is
an added complexity to all of the things, you know,
much less a breast cancer diagnosis. So it's just a
time of year that we really want to lift our

(14:39):
moms and celebrate every mom and you know, all of
us can do that, you know, we we are moms,
or we have moms, or we have moms that are
moms you know, to us right aunties and other types
of people in our lives that have that have helped us.
And so it's just a really great way to celebrate.
Each year we have the Donna Mother's Day five K.

(15:01):
It is on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend, so
this year that will be Saturday, May tenth. We're going
to be doing the five k from Friday Musicale in
Historic Riverside. We kick things off at eight am with
the five k run and walk and then we have
a really new exciting component to add to this event.

(15:24):
This year, We've partnered with us Health, who is bringing
their really powerful public forum on breast health to this event.
So immediately following the walk, we're going to welcome the
community into Friday Musicale and learn about what we need
to know about our breast health. And this is a

(15:45):
free and open to the public event. We do need
people to register so we know who's coming, and we
have a limited number of seats. But this is just
a powerful contribution that UF Health makes to our community.
And they've been doing this education for a number of
years and we're just so honored that they would partner
with us and bring this education into to this day

(16:07):
so that we cannot only celebrate and empower everyone out
on that five k walk or run, but when we're done,
we can come in and learn about how to take
care of ourselves.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
You mean, dy Shannie speaking to Amanda. She's here with
the Donna Foundation, and she's telling us how we can
get involved, get out and exercise, get involved with a
powerful movement, and also be around like minded individuals who
want to help the community. Amanda, I know that this

(16:38):
has been something that you have been working with Donna
for so many years. What is the best part of
just being a part of the Donna Foundation.

Speaker 6 (16:50):
Wow, you know, I think the best part really is
is giving people a lens of love through which to
look every day is pretty scary, right, You can wake
up every day and be really fearful about whatever the
case may be. Right, many of course who have a
breast cancer diagnosis feel this way, but I think all

(17:13):
of us have points in our lives where where we
can be really afraid and full of fear. And what
Donna has taught me, and really the message that we're
bringing to the community is that you have a choice
in how to face that, and you can really look
at it through a lens of love. And when I
see people finally sort of grasp onto that idea right
and know it's my choice, I can get up and

(17:34):
I can think about all of the things I'm grateful for,
And that's what makes this life beautiful and so so
being a part of sort of that messaging and that
you know, mindset and seeing people grasp onto that is
really what brings me joy and life every single day
doing this work.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
I love that message. Thank you so much, Amanda. I
am looking at the website now, I see where the
community can donate, volunteer and or become a sponsor talk
to us about that.

Speaker 6 (18:07):
So you know, we can't do this without support. So
there's many ways to get involved, whether you know you
have your own company or you work for a company
that might want to jump in and sponsor. We welcome that,
many many sponsorship opportunities, you know, small and large and
everything in between. And you know, it's a beautiful day

(18:28):
with a very broad reach. We're expecting nearly two thousand
people to come out and enjoy the day with us,
So it's a great way to get your company's information
in front of a lot of people in this community.
Volunteerism it's huge. We cannot do this without hands right
and it's a fun day of putting metals around people's

(18:50):
necks or handing out water at our water stop. So
there's definitely volunteer opportunities for the morning, and you know,
certainly registration is open and all month long. We will
be doing a fundraising campaign, so we are hoping to
raise thirty thousand dollars for the critical programs of the

(19:11):
Donna Foundation, caring for families living with breast cancer. We
have some generous partners who have jumped in the players
Championship and an organization called Golf Fights Cancer. They have
jumped in with a matching gift challenge, which means that
every dollar you donate or every dollar you raise is
match up to thirty thousand dollars. So we're about four

(19:34):
thousand dollars into that goal right now, and we're just
getting started. So you don't necessarily have to come and
walk the five k or run with us in order
to fundraise. If you'd like to raise funds to help
us help others, please jump in.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
And do so. Community Shawnee speaking to Amanda. She's here
with the Donna Foundation, excited about what is going on
in our community, understanding that it is is to empower
those fighting, our survivors and of course empower our community
rally around this. If you would like to check out
our website, it's on our community calendar page where you

(20:11):
can see all the information about the DONA five K
Mother's Day Run. Now, this is something that anyone could
just come out and participate, right.

Speaker 6 (20:21):
Amanda, Yes, ma'am. Really, it's a five k run or
walk or stroll however you'd like to come out and
do it. And you know, we've always known that moving
our bodies is helpful to our health. But now we
really do know. There's so many studies now that show
us that if we move our bodies that it really

(20:42):
does reduce our chance of even contracting things like breast cancer.
So it's just so important to keep us all moving
and we have a really good time doing it. We'll
have a big party after and lots of people coming
out with fun giveaways and food and beverage and have
a great time, and then we'll all roll into Friday

(21:03):
Musicale and learn a little something about breast health. So
all of that information is available on our website, which
is linked to your website, so come out and check
it out.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
Thank you so much, Amanda. It is always a pleasure
to talk to someone from the Donna Foundation, understanding that
this is a multicultural type of movement where everyone that
needs help is helped. So I appreciate just being a
part of this conversation and helping to spread the word
and awareness around this event and around the Donna Foundation.

(21:37):
Thank you, Donna Digan for doing your due diligence and
helping our community and ensuring that you keep going and
keep helping us. So thank you, Amanda, Thank you Donna
thank you Donna Foundation for just being there.

Speaker 6 (21:53):
Oh, You're very welcome. It is our absolute pleasure.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
So Johnnie feeling blessed and highly favored. On this Sunday morning.
We are empowering a community. So today I have Amanda Scott.
We're here from Broadway in Jacksonville, presented by FSCJ Artists Series. Amanda,
how are you today?

Speaker 2 (22:11):
I'm doing so well? How about yourself?

Speaker 1 (22:13):
You know, blessed that I could interact with so many
community advocates, people who are enjoying their jobs but empowering
a community. So if you would share yourself with the community,
tell us a little something or what you would like
to share about Amanda Scott.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
I grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, and I made my
way to Jacksonville, and from there I worked with the
Alhambra here in Jacksonville, and now I'm working with Broadway
and Jacksonville with FSCJ Artists Series. I've always had a
theater background. I studied at Florida State University, so I

(22:54):
am a Florida girl even though I'm not from Florida,
but very familiar with everything that we have going on here.
And you know, it's just wonderful to be able to
give this to the community to experience such wonderful, inspiring
stories with our Broadway in Jacksonville series and everything else

(23:17):
that we present including concerts, opera, dance, comedy and family productions.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Undy Shawnee speaking to the Assistant director of Marketing, Amanda
Scott from FSCJ Artists series Broadway in Jacksonville, and she
is here to enlighten us about what is really going
on at the Broadway in Jacksonville. Now, Amanda talk to
us and tell us to us about what has been happening,

(23:46):

You said something about you opened up one of the
series today.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Yes, so we just announced our twenty five twenty six
Broadway and Jacksonville season and it includes five premieres to Jacksonville.
Kicking off the season is Clue the Lighthearted Who Done It?
That's based off of the movie and hasbro board Gates.
Then we go into Missus Doubtfire, featuring everyone's favorite Scottish

(24:18):
nanny in a feel good comedy with the iconic scenes
from the film and a touch of musical flair.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Mulan Rouge.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
The musical explores the lavish and sensual world of parents
and goes into the bohemian values of truth, beauty, freedom
and love. Then we have a beautiful noise the Neil
Diamond Musical. It's an uplifting and the untold true story
of rags to riches and into an American icon. And

(24:47):
it's endorsed by Neil Diamond himself, which is really fascinating.
Beetlejuice is our final performance in the Broadway in Jacksonville series,
and it's a brilliant staging of Tim Burton's really beloved film.
There's hilarious antics, bizarre visuals and colorful lunacy and it's
just screamingly good fun.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Community Shawnie speaking to Amanda Scott highlighting Women's History Month.
Amanda is here to share with us her passion as
you can hear in her voice. And what is going
on with FSCJ Artist Series, Amanda, How can the community

It really captivates the audience on all levels. The choreography

Speaker 6 (26:18):
You.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
You know, you sit in the the in your seat
and listen to a montage of Michael Jackson's music and
you're just, you know, overwhelmed with how much talent one
man had and get to see his creative process. So
it truly is fascinating and really really inspiring. And you know,

(26:40):
that's what we love to be able to do for
our community. Are subscribers to the Broadway in Jacksonville series
help us to thrive and build a community. You know,
that's something that people look forward to living and working
and playing. And we have a huge economic impact. When

(27:04):
you come out to the theater, you're supporting local restaurants, hotels,
and businesses, and that truly empowers the community because you know,
when we're all working together and diversifying our surroundings. It's
just amazing what we can do.

Speaker 1 (27:20):

puts so much into the arts, puts so much into music,

the community should see. So community, if you want to

I know it's going to be enlightening. Have you seen it, Amanda?
I did.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Yeah. I got the opportunity to see it in New
York and it was my favorite show when I went there.
You know, it was just this past season and there
were so many wonderful productions. I mean, the Outsiders, kimber
Lear canbo. Everything was spectacular, but MJ really.

Speaker 6 (28:35):
Locked me in.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
I mean it was just electrifying and just from start
to finish, I was so curious about this man's creative
process and being able to see the story which has
centered around the nineteen ninety two Dangerous World Tour and

(28:58):
the level of talent in the show. It was spectacular,
hands down.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Well, community, we have something else to put on the
to do list. I understand that behind the scenes there
are Tony an Emmy Award artists that will be displaying
their talent. So it's coming to Jacksonville. It will be here, Amanda. Again,
the dates for the MJ the.

And Amanda, one more thing. You said something about can
people be seasoned ticket holders? Can they pour into FSCJ
a series.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Yes, that's right, Yeah, we have season subscriptions and when
you buy into the subscription, you're getting five shows in
the twenty five twenty six Broadway in Jacksonville series. So
right now MJ is going to be the last show
in our twenty four to twenty five season. So our
packages for the current season are no longer on sale,

(30:24):
but we did just launch the twenty five twenty six
Broadway and Jacksonville series and you can lock in five shows.
It's an incredible value. We have packages starting at two
hundred and thirty two dollars and that equates to about
forty six dollars per show, and season subscribers get an

(30:45):
array of benefits. They get priority access to seatings, ticket exchanges,
discounts on more productions, and it's just a great experience
to come out to the theater and support a good cause.
We also have the option to elevate your experience by

(31:09):
becoming a VIP Theater member. With that you get premium
seeding and orders during intermission, and that contribution helps us
to bring these blockbusters year after year and it goes
back and supports the college. We also as the fundraising

(31:33):
arm of Florida State College at Jacksonville Foundation, we support
student scholarships and make art accessible to the community.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Amanda, thank you so much. Pouring in to you as well.

highlighting you for Women History Month. I know that you

great to be able to share this with the community,
and you know you highlighting everything that we have to
offer and the arts. It means so much to me
personally as somebody who's a believer in the arts. You know,
experiencing a live show is truly transformative and can take

(32:49):
you to great heights.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
