Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to community viewpoints and Shawnee feeling blessed and highly
favored on this Sunday morning. We are empowering our community.
We are empowering people. And in the past I have
interviewed this young lady who is now a Shira in
her own right, but she's here to talk about something
that is still near and dear to her heart. So
today I have Tiffany William. She is here to talk

(00:21):
to us about Liam Lives Foundation, eighth annual charity. Gaila, Tiffany,
how are you.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I am doing well this wonderful morning, Shawnie. Thank you
so much for having me on your show.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Well, you know, Tiffany, we go way back, and you
know sometimes we step away to watch people grow. I
just want you to tell the community just a little
bit about yourself and then we'll talk about the meaning
behind Liam Lives Foundation.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
I am a native of Jacksonville, Florida, born and raised,
and currently I am a mental health therapist. I operate
my own private practice, Masterpiece Counseling Services, and I am
a mother of twin boys, also my son Liam, who

(01:06):
we of course we will talk a little bit about
later on. But apart from being a mother and a therapist.
I am a community activist. I'm very active in my
community as it relates to pregnancy, loss, infant death advocacy

(01:27):
around that and also a member of my local chapter
of Delta Signatatus already incorporated. So I am a busy individual,
a very busy individual. But that is me in a
nutshell community.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Shawnee speaking to Tiffany William. She is here to talk
to us, but to also provide us a vision. She
had a vision a long time ago, I do to
a loss infant loss, and she envisioned a foundation so
that her son Liam will not be forgotten and it
is thriving and surviving through her. But Tiffany, I wanted

(02:05):
to thank you because through COVID, you had a lot
to do with all of our mental health. And I
don't know if you knew that, but you always had
a message on Facebook how to create that space of
peace and master your peace. So first off, I want
to thank you for always delivering to the community seen
or unseen, but know that people are watching you, So

(02:28):
thank you for that. All right, thank you, And I
will also want to thank you for being a Shira.
Tiffany did not stop. She did not let Liam's passing
stop her thriving in the community.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Now a mother of twins and.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Overwhelmed, I'm sure, but God gave her a double host
because he knew of the hurt and the yearning of
wanting babies and sons. So if you would, Tiffany, talk
to us and tell us, because I think through these
interviews sometimes we are it's a therapy for all. Tiffany,
talk to us about your vision for the Liam Liz
Foundation and how it's growing. Because this is the eighth

(03:05):
annuals so I remember the first.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
One a long time ago, twenty seventeen. When I think
about eight years of being an impact to the community,
I sometimes get overwhelmed by Wow, how long we have
sustained and how much impact we have made, and there's
so much more impact that needs to be delved out

(03:28):
into the community. It's you know, it has been a ride.
It has been an emotional ride, but also one that
is fulfilling over these years and speaking to the growth
we have come to a place now where, of course,
continuing to provide services to families who've experienced laws, who

(03:52):
have experienced a sudden if death syndrome, who have experienced
miscarriage or any other traumatic law prior to a child
reaching the age of one. We have reached many families
all throughout the United States, all throughout the world, you
might as well say, And what I was finding over

(04:15):
the years is the huge intersection between loss, between maternal
mental health, maternal feudal outcomes, and death more specifically along
with infertility. And so the growth part of it is

(04:36):
LIAM Lives focusing more now on that intersection. So whereas
before we were providing counseling services, we were providing financial
services to help families to bury their children, we're now
focusing on what preventative measures we can implement so that

(04:58):
mothers are dying, and more specifically Black mothers are dying,
that babies are dying, more specifically, Black babies aren't dying.
And we want to also educate the community around infertility,
especially in the black community, because it's necessary. And like
I said, in doing this work over the past eight years,

(05:20):
there's this huge intersection and it's a natural progression towards
what our calling is and more specifically, as you were
speaking to, what our vision is. So in this eighth
year New Beginnings, that is what we are envisioning. We're
envisioning a vision and a mission that focuses on overall

(05:43):
maternal fetal health, infertility and also pregnancy and infotloss.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Queen Dy Shawnee talking to a community advocate on mental
health infant loss. A powerhouse in our community, Tiffany Williams
is here to talk to us and share her thoughts
processes as well as opening doors to people to talk
about infant loss and infertility. Tiffany, with the Gala coming up,

(06:09):
I'm sure that you know you have all the resources
and all the information about health challenges, fetal health challenges
and infertility. How can the community get involved with you
so that you can empower them and get ready for
the Gala.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
They can reach out to us at our website and
that is www dot liam Libs Foundation, Inc. Dot org,
l I A M l I V E S s
O U n d A t I O n i
NC dot org and you can click the volunteer tab

(06:47):
to submit an interest to volunteer with the organization, and
that is of course year round. If you want to
specifically impart in our organization and support our through the Gala,
you can also go to our website and purchase a ticket.
The tickets are one hundred dollars and you can sponsor

(07:09):
a table of eight or seven hundred. Come out, enjoy yourselves,
meet some of the members of liam Lives, meet some
of our other community advocates who are championing the same
cause that we are, and hopefully create some lifelong friendships, partnerships,

(07:31):
and continue to help us to advocate for these families
in our community. But of course, we don't want you
to just come to the gala and that's just it.
We want you to continue to impart in the organization
and even be a part of the organization. So if
there are any questions as to becoming a member or

(07:55):
becoming a consistent volunteer with the organization, they can definitely
reach out to us for our website.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Community Shawnee speaking to Tiffany Williams here too, give us
another event where we can get dressed up and know
that we're parting for a purpose. So Tiffany, November seventeenth,
Jacksonville Public Library, the main library downtown, lots of energy
to talk to us and tell the community about what

(08:22):
they can expect at the gala November seven.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
We're going to have great music great vibes spoken words.
This year, which I am so proud to say, we
will be giving our very first Doula Scholarship. And so
for those who are familiar with what adula is, that
doula is someone who assists a mother during and after

(08:50):
the birth process. And what we found in research is
that doula's actually helped in the birth outcomes of specifically
Black children and Black mothers. And so they are the
ones that are standing by those pregnant moms and advocating
for them. And we want to continue to dispatch those

(09:12):
dulas out in the community so that we can reduce
the maternal and fetal mortality rate in the Black community.
So I am extremely excited to announce that we will
be giving out our first dualist scholarship this year. So
you will be able to witness that and also be

(09:32):
able to just experience what Liam Lives has been giving
to the community, has been doing in the community over
the past eight years. So you'll get to hear all
of the programs we've implemented, all of the people that
we have impacted and changed their lives, and you'll also

(09:54):
again be able to be around other people and change
agents in the community who are championing this cause.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Indeed, talking to the Shira, Tiffany Williams, understanding you will
have an forgettable evening of hope, healing and new beginnings
coming together to support a wonderful being. This lady has
not stopped with sharing and providing a vision that she
thought purposeful due to her son leaving us, but it

(10:25):
was in body but not in spirit, and then God
granted her too amazing son. So we know that prayer
works and we know that Tiffany is in this community
to ensure that our sons are taking care of. And
of course all the information is on our website. The
funds will go to a phenomenal night, but it will
also advocate to stop infant mortality, fetal challenges as well

(10:49):
as women surviving the birth of their children.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Tiffany, anything else.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Make sure that you check us out at our website,
purchase you put on your Sunday's best and be prepared
to have a great talk.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Thank you for being an inspiration to our community. Tiffany.
Thank you for not stopping. This can be a showstopper
from people, but thank you for pushing the community and
showing them that you cannot stop and God will bless accordingly.
So thank you for being a Shira. Thank you for
being in that spectrum as well, because I know that
with all of this, mental health is a part of this.

(11:28):
And thank you for allowing us to master our peace.
And as we continue with community viewpoints, Sashawnie feeling blessed
and highly favored on this Sunday morning, we are empowering
our community and paving the way to people opening their
minds to helping the community. Today, I have Jennifer still
on the line. She is here to talk to us
about pen Can Purple Light event.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Jennifer, how are you.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
I'm good.

Speaker 5 (11:53):
Thanks for having me, Jennifer.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Before we get into the event and how the community
can get involved, tell us a little something about yourself.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
I was born and raised in Jacksonville, flum fact. I'm
actually a triplet, so two girls and a boy. I
graduated from UNF with a degree in biomedical science. And
I just like helping people, and so I also got
involved in charity work.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Going to the holiday season.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Volunteering charity work helps us get out and possibly empower
a people. So today I have Jennifer here community to
talk to us about the pan Can Purple Light Event.
And as you know, with pancreatic cancer, the month of
November is the awareness month for this actual disease. So, Jennifer,

(12:38):
if you would talk to us about your involvement with
pan CAN Purple Light Event.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
I became the Survivor Chargiver Chair with the pan CAN
Jacksonville affiliate about three years ago, so this upcoming November
will be our third year having this event. We essentially
get the community together paint a sea of purple to
show support for all those who have fought pancreat of
cancer and honor those loved ones who have passed.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
And Jennifer, is this personal to you as someone in
your family or dear to you passed from pancreatic cancer.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
Yeah, my dad as well as my Mimi on his side,
and then my grandpa on my mom's side, and then
one of my other family members. We used to call
her Fuzzy Grandma. So it's been a lot of people
I've known and we've been personally affected by this, and
we are just trying to raise awareness and honor those

(13:32):
that we've lost during this event.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
I know that sometimes with a disease as a cancer,
we often think about the person going through the disease,
but we don't often think about the caregivers going through
the disease with that person. Talk to us how the
community can get involved, to empower families and just build
resources so that we can all help everyone that is

(13:55):
affected by pancreatic cancer.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
The good thing about the Pancreatic Cancer Action that is
they have a lot of resource So you can find
their website at pancan dot org. It'll show you all
the resources you have available nationwide. We have patient support services,
early detection initiatives, and then more locally, you can find

(14:18):
our Facebook page. If you search Jacksonville PANCAN or even
just Purple Light on Facebook, you'll be able to find
those in your local community here in Jacksonville that have
also been affected by this disease or caregivers and they'd
be able to point you into the direction of support
and more information.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Indie Shawnee speaking to Jennifer Stall. She is here from
PANCAM Purple Light event shining a light on pancreatic cancer.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
We're in the month of November.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
We need to check on our parents, we need to
check on family and friends, and Jennifer, I have a
Masonic brother I believe there's a team Laura, and he
also walks for his wife who he recently lost. So
how can the community get involved with just helping, you know, donating, volunteering,

(15:06):
How can we get involved with keeping the purple light
on for pan can Purple Light event.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
The support of the community is really special. So we're
having our Purple Light event at the Seawalk Pavilion November sixteenth,
five point thirty. We're hoping to get a lot of
people there showing their support for you know, those lovelms
and caregivers. We'll have information there about our Purple Stride
event that is our main fundraising walk the end of April.

(15:36):
You'll have a lot of resources there where you can
find links to our Facebook as well as the national
website where you can donate and even create a team
for the upcoming walk in April.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Thank you, Jennifer. Now, I know that with any cancer,
early detection is the key, and you noted that you
will have resources. How can someone who is fighting pancreatic cancer?
What are the steps for early detection?

Speaker 5 (16:01):
Still very new? This is one of the things that's
difficult with this specific disease is we don't catch it early.
Enough and that's what makes it so aggressive. So if
you go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Networks website, you
can be contacted by a patient services member and they'll
be able to lay out all of the options that

(16:23):
are available to you as well as any loved ones
and kind of go over any clinical trials or genetic
testing that may be able to be done. I believe
currently they're doing early detection trials specifically for those who
have signs of pre diabetes.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
And so that is a detection that you can just
horn in on to say, let me get tested and
see what else is in my system?

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Do I understand correctly?

Speaker 5 (16:50):
There is also a ten question form on the website
as well where you'll be able to detect if you
are at an elevation risk for pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer,
and then if you are, you can be put into
contact with other resources to take those next steps into

(17:11):
genetic testing, early detection trials, blood tests, all of that.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Jennifer, I understand that this is near and dear to
your heart due to you, a father, a mem and
many family members. What would you like to say to
the community to empower or encourage them? To get involved
with a foundation that helps you get through losing a
loved one.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
You never really truly know what someone is going through,
and especially with a disease like this, you want to
spend as much time as you can making memories with
those loved ones and not being burdened by financial responsibilities
and medications. So if you can just lean on one another,
spread hope and support anyone going through this in your community,

(17:56):
that would be a great help.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
And of course we're purple.

Speaker 5 (17:59):
Yeah, purple is the color.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
And just explain why purple is the color for the
pen Can Purple Light event. Why is it so symbolic
for you?

Speaker 5 (18:08):
There are many different ribbon colors associated with various diseases
as well as cancer, and so a royal purple is
the ribbon for pancreatic cancer and the event. We want
to bring the community together and just create a sea
of purple to show our support for the caregivers and

(18:28):
honor those we've lost.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Thank you so much for your due diligence and us
getting together and talking about this event. I also understand
there's a lot of people that start foundations or start
drives or get involved as a volunteer due to loved
ones passing on.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
This is the season to get involved.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
This is the season to get out of the house
and not mourn, but help, wouldn't you say, Jennifer, Yes.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Definitely, And if anybody you would want to register as
an attendee or even to volunteer, you'd be able to
go to our Facebook page. Once again, you just figed
Jacksonville pan Caan or even search the Purple Light event
and you'll be able to find that registration link in
order to volunteer or attend.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Thank you so much for taking time. I appreciate the
light that you are in this community and the light
that you're shining on the pan Can Purple Light Event.
Understanding is very near and dear to your heart. Jennifer,
just make strives to be one of three that is
shedding a light for your family.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
Yeah, thank you so much for having.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Me empowering and engaging in communities as we continue with
community viewpoints. So Shawnie feeling blessed and highly favored on
this Sunday morning, we are empowering our community on just living.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
A better life. Today.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
I have on the phone Doctor Fitness and he's here
to talk to us about what we need to do
to keep our holiday spirits up, but also to keep
our bodies in full form.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Doc. How are you.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
Today, Shawnie? I am doing fantastic. Thank you so much
for inviting me to be here on community viewpoint Doc.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
You know, when we.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Did Sister Strut, I wanted to bring you in to
do a post interview just for us to talk about
exercising and the phenomenal things that our body will do
once we exercise and eat right. So if you would
just tell the community a little bit about yourself, what
you've been doing, and then we'll get to what adventures
you have for the community moving forward.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
Recap on Sister Strut. Sister Strut is one of the
best events that I get to participate in each year.
There's nothing more important, in my opinion than helping women
of color deal with breast cancer and bringing awareness to
such a huge issue. The challenge has been women of

(20:57):
color tend to have to face more aggress forms of
breast cancer, so awareness is incredibly important. And doing Sister
Strut and bringing that awareness to people that may not
have any other opportunity to get that information. It's really
what we do and I love it and I'm excited
that we do it each year and really proud to

(21:18):
be able to participate in it for the last nine years.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
Community Shawnie speaking to Doctor Fitness. One of the things
I enjoy with Sister Strut is us exercising, getting warmed
up and moving our body. Thank you for always doing
your due diligence and being there for us to help
us exercise. If you would just tell us a little
bit about what you do in real life. I know
that we are all working multiple jobs, but you do

(21:45):
a lot, including being on the radio, So talk to
us about what you do in the community.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
So I have several jobs in the community, but the
core of all the work that I do really has
to do with wellness. My primary job is I'm a
wellness coach. I've been a personal trainer. Providing information that
supports people with exercise and nutrition has been a passion
of mine as long as I can remember. Now I've

(22:10):
been a wellness coach for now easily over twenty five years,
so it's a passion of mine. I love it, and
I've had the privilege of doing that with a lot
of different organizations, with gyms in the past, with wellness centers,
doctors' offices, and so I do what I do for

(22:32):
companies and businesses that need wellness coaches, and I love it.
And what I enjoy about it is the look on
people's faith when they realize that they just accomplished something
that they had no idea that they would be able
to accomplish. And when it comes to exercise, it's like, Okay,
we've walked three miles and they're like, oh my god,

(22:55):
I never in a million years thought I'd be able
to walk three miles, Or they done a challenge with
me and at the end of the challenge they're like
totally blown away that they've been able to do it.
And sometimes when they can't do it, it's just as wonderful
as they can and you're probably going, well, how is
that the case? Well through November, for example, we are

(23:18):
currently doing a city wide Eat Green challenge and the
purpose of the challenge is to increase the amount of
green vegetables that we're all eating. And what makes the
challenge difficult is each meal that you have, you need
to have vegetables with the meal. So that includes breakfast,

(23:39):
so every breakfast, every lunch, every dinner, and even every
snack that you have for the entire month of November.
You need to have vegetables with it.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Community Shawnie speaking to doctor Fitnis talking about what we
need to do to balance this last quarter of twenty
twenty four. One of the things is eating, Doctor Fitness.
I know that exercising also goes with eating, So talk
to us about last quarter while we're going to get
back to the you know, the Eat Green challenge exercising.

(24:13):
What are some of the things that we could do
as a community if we can't get to the gym
or we can't get a full fledged workout, what can
we do to keep ourselves moving through the holidays and
stay true to enjoying ourselves but keeping ourselves fit.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
And that's a great question. The way I answer that
question all the time because I get asked that question
quite often. You know, what should we do? What can
we be doing? How can we make sure that we
get the exercise that we need? And what exercise should
I do? And the way I answer it is the
exercise that you should do is the exercise that you

(24:52):
will do. Okay, So it's not whether you should or how,
it's the one that you're going to do. If there's
an exercise that you just will not do well, it's
not going to be helpful at all. So start doing
things that you already believe that you can do and
build from there. For example, if you really would like
to run a marathon, well, the first thing you want

(25:14):
to do is start walking. So do things in intervals,
break things off in small ways to help you. And
some people go I can't, I don't have an hour.
You don't need an hour necessarily to work out. Start
with ten minutes, or spend more time standing. A lot
of us will sit for eight hours. Make sure that
within that eight hours for you, that you get up

(25:37):
and you walk around two or three times per hour,
doing it incrementally like this is going to help you
to get the results, keep you fired up about moving
and get your body really excited about continuing to move,
and looking for other ways that you can challenge yourself.
I recently opened up a studio called Age Well Fitiness.

(26:00):
We're always giving amazing information to people here at iHeart
month to month. So if you want to listen, listen
on ninety three point three The Beat or V one
oh one point five track down Doctor Fitness. I have
a blog on both and you'll be able to get
tips and information to help you to move better, feel better,

(26:23):
lose belly fat, and great ideas for exercise, as well
as foods that you can be eating. You can become
a part of that challenge super easy for this month.
For example, to be a part of the challenge, all
you need to do is text your name your email
in the words eat green the nine oh four two

(26:44):
three six fifty eight fifty eight. That's nine oh four
two three six fifty eight fifty eight and it's a
free challenge. Anybody in the city or in the community
can be a part of it. And what you get
when you text that information is you get tipps, you
get recipes, you get encouragement, and you get ideas to

(27:05):
help you to be successful with the challenge. And the
really cool thing about the challenge, Let's say you don't
eat green for a day while you realize, oh my god,
I'm gonna have my pancakes and I'm not having anything greed.
Messing up is a great learning experience. It's not a failure.
But what happens is embrace the challenge. Embrace things that

(27:26):
are difficult for you to do, Embrace the failures. And
use them as learning experiences. If that's something that you're
looking to do, these challenges would be amazing and I
really wholeheartedly invite you to text your name your email
in the words eat green to nine oh four two

(27:46):
three six fifty eight fifty eight. That's nine oh four
two three six fifty eight fifty eight to participate in
a free challenge to help you to eat more vegetables,
to feel better, improve your health, lose belly fat, and
just have more energy to get you through the holidays.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Community Shawnee speaking to doctor Fitness on this Sunday, we
are helping a community to get ready to think about
eating right, exercising, but enjoying the holidays. Doctor Fitness, I
know that with us being post COVID and a lot
of people work from home or sit eight hours of
the day. You said that you know we should get

(28:25):
up two to three times an hour. What are some
exercises or do you have some regiments that the community
can get involved in so that you know you can
wake up the muscles ensure that with sitting all day.
What is it that we need to do. Do we
need to stretch more? What mindset do we need when
sitting for a long period of time.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
You really hit it. You lasered right in on flexibility
and stretching. Stretching is an integral part of what we
need to do because if we don't do it when
we're younger, when we get older. Let's see expression of
the health to use. You get all stove up to
another way of saying, you just get really stiff and
you have lots of aches and pain. Great thing about

(29:08):
stretching is it reduces that stiffness, it reduces pains, It
helps to avoid muscle imbalances. So these are the things
that you really want to do. And if you're not
sure and you need a little more help with something
like this, I would recommend scheduling an appointment and I'd
be happy to help you to get started knowing what

(29:30):
to do and what's best for you, because not everything
is good for everybody. Our bodies are different, So keep
that in mind as you move towards any kind of
wellness idea. Keep in mind that you may have an
injury that makes it unsafe for you to do certain things. Okay,

(29:50):
if you have knee challenges, you might want to be
really careful about walking a lot, or how you're walking.
So this is another opportunity that having a this code
can really help you to avoid exacerbating pre existing injury.
Our traditional doctors are not there to help us with
those kind of day to day things. We have to

(30:11):
really be proactive.

Speaker 6 (30:12):
You know.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
There's some amazing chiropractors like doctor McGowan. So it comes
to finding the right people to help. So I invite
you to text me or call me at nine oh
four two three six fifty eight fifty eight if you're
interested in a consult, just a little help to get
you started so that you can feel great, not gain

(30:34):
that weight that most people gain during the holidays. A
lot of people don't know this. From October to thirty
first our Halloween until New Year's the average American puts
on between twelve and twenty two pounds that they never lose.
And that's just during that small window. Try some of
the challenges that we do each month and just have fun.

(30:57):
And I think one way to help you to be
