Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Leadout calendar. On July twenty eighth, nineteen seventy three, Led
Zepplin played the Ocean as an encore at Madison Square
Garden in New York. They intentionally played the same songs
at all three shows because they were filming. This encore
was unearthed only in the twenty first century. The official
release combines elements from all three nights. Robert Plant had

(00:24):
sung his daughter's name at the first show, Cobbin Zoning
four years old. But it's a real fun way to saw.
He omitted Carmen's name and the other two nights, and
he sang it this way on the twenty eighthal On

(00:49):
July twenty ninth, nineteen sixty nine, Led Zeppelin played a
set at Kinsman Fieldhouse in Edmonton, Canada. Their friends in
the band Vanilla Fudge had to follow led Zeppelin that night.
Both drummers owned identical drum kits, and Carmine Apersey knew
the parts John Bonham would play, so Carmine took John's
place and played part of led Zeppelin's last song with them.

(01:12):
Led Zeppelin were not filming shows in those days exactly
four years later, they captured some of their ninth North
American tour on cellular. On July thirtieth, nineteen sixty nine,

(01:38):
John Bonham used double based drum pedals during led Zeppelin's
show in Salt Lake City, Utah. They played at the
Terrace Ballroom on a double billing with Vanilla Fudge. John
did not normally use double based drum pedals in his setup.
For him, the second pedal for his other foot was
not necessary. John Bonham could naturally accomplish those sounds all

(02:00):
with one foot. Here's how led Zeppelin sounded at a
festival a few days later. Ten years ago. On July

(02:25):
thirty first, twenty fifteen, Led Zeppelin released the deluxe editions
of their final three studio albums. Coda tripled its original size,
containing led Zeppelin's deepest curiosities. In Through the Outdoor came
inside a brown paper bag with a watercolor insert. True
to the original release, there was a mini sized brown

(02:46):
paper bag for the compact disc format too. The re
release of Presents came with a previously unheard studio outtake
an Uncharacteristically for those album sessions, John Paul Jones played piano.
And Jimmy Page played acoustic guitar. On August first, nineteen

(03:14):
sixty nine, the Fraternity of Man performed at an arena
show in Santa Barbara, California. Their music could be heard
in the movie Easy Rider, showing in theaters at that time.
The next band on stage was Jethro Tull, whose latest
hit was Living in the Past. Their new album used
a melody originally composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, played not

(03:37):
by a lute but a flute led Zeppelin finished out
the arena show that night. Jimmy Page began to incorporate
Bo's Bret Intil led Zeppelin's act. Some three months later.

(04:02):
This is Carol Miller. Thanks for Getting the let Out.
