(00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller.Welcome to our Get the Letout calendar.
On April first, nineteen seventy seven, Led Zeppelin ended a two year sabbatical.
Their eleventh tour of the US gotunder way at the Dallas Convention Center.
They played for three hours. AsRobert Kilburn reported in the Los Angeles
Times, Robert Plant told his interviewer, quote, I was so nervous before

(00:22):
we went on stage last night thatI almost threw up. I could feel
the tenseness and my throat For thefirst couple of songs. I kept telling
myself to loosen up, and thewhole show possessed an element of emotionalism that
I've never known before. This isPlant talking. I don't think I've ever
sung better in America. I mean, I'd have liked for everybody who ever
wanted to see us to have beenthere, unquote. On April second,

(00:53):
nineteen seventy three, Led Zeppelin receivedframed Gold Album Awards at France. Untitled
fourth album had sold more than onehundred and fifty thousand copies. In a
group photo with Zeppelin, manager PeterGrant hoisted his gold record award above his
head behind the cameras. Peter wasarranging for led Zeppelin to hire a publicist

(01:14):
just in time for their American tour. The prime candidate for the job had
flown from the US for the necessaryqualifying interview with led Zeppelin. Fortunately for
Danny Goldberg, they welcomed him aswarmly as the French had received led Zeppelin
of Paris forty five years ago.On April third, nineteen seventy nine,

(01:44):
Bad Company played at the Birmingham Odeon. They were touring the UK in support
of their fifth album, for Swansong, the record label led Zeppelin had been
operating for the past five years.A week earlier, Bad Company had welcomed
Robert Plant on stage as a specialguest, so it seemed possible this might
repeat itself. For their encore, out came two led Zeppelin members, John

(02:07):
Bonham and Jimmy Page. There wasno sign of Robert Plant as they performed
Long Toll Sally by Little Richard.Once that song finished, Robert joined them
all for the final encore, GoingDown, which is a song led Zeppelin
sometimes covered fifteen years ago. OnApril fourth, two thousand and nine,

(02:32):
Jeff Beck was inducted into the Rockand Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony
was held in Cleveland at Public Hall. Jimmy Page took the podium and spoke
with Jeff front and center in theaudience. Jeff's whole guitar style, it's
just totally unorthodox to the way thatanyone was taught. When Jimmy performed with
Jeff and his band that night, they had not planned how they would transition

(02:55):
from immigrant Song to bex Bolero. On April fifth, nineteen seventy six,

(03:16):
Led Zeppelin released Presence, seven songsfor their seventh album. Robert Plant was
sidelined by an injury with a damagedfoot and unable to tour, so led
Zeppelin put their best foot forward,so to speak, and focused all of
their collective energy into songwriting in Malibu, California, and recording in Munich.

(03:37):
This bonus led Zeppelin studio album couldnot be promoted on tour, and all
songs were too new to have beenplayed live ahead of time. Led Zeppelin
had no intention at the time ofreleasing their older unfinished studio outtake Walter's Walk.
Between verses, they played this riff. That riff made it into hots

(04:01):
On for Nowhere. This is CarolMiller. Thanks for Getting the let Out.
