Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Letout calendar. Fifty five years ago. On November fourth, nineteen
sixty nine, Led Zeppelin headlined over the Copper Penny at
a show in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. They had also played
in Toronto. John Bonham's recent drum purchase in Toronto wasn't

(00:28):
for himself, but with his three year old son Jason
in mind. Quote, I bought him a great set of
miniature drums. It's an absolutely perfect replica, down to the
bass drum pedal and the high hat. Even I can
play them. They're Japanese made. They weren't really for sale
and were just on display, but I offered them one
hundred dollars and bought them unquote, decent investment considering Jason's

(00:50):
future as a drummer. Fifty five years ago, on November fifth,
nineteen sixty nine, Led Zeppelin were scheduled to play two
shows at Memorial Hall and Kansas City, Kansas. There was
a hero of led Zeppelin's early show listen for his name.

(01:20):
Five winters later, Robert plant let concert goers in Saint
Louis in on some little known information about an arrest
in Kansas City, Kansas.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
City, Jack Kansas City. Yeah, our friend mister Bonham got
arrested there about four years ago. Remember that, John Njaio fantastic.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Fifty years ago. On November sixth, nineteen seventy four, Led
Zeppelin's record company released their first single for the UK market,
and it was not one of led Zeppelin's own songs,
of course not. The single was by The Pretty Things
called It's Only Love. That wasn't the only news out

(02:03):
of led Zeppelin's record label that day. Swansong also announced
a release date for led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti and more importantly,
US tour dates. The announcement was correct as to the
timing of Zeppelin's tour in January seventy five. However, Zeppelin
intended to have Physical Graffiti out well before the tour

(02:24):
in November seventy four, and they missed that mark by
a few months. Fifty five years ago. On November seventh,
nineteen sixty nine, Led Zeppelin played at the Winterland Ballroom
in San Francisco. This was their second night of three,
with promoter Bill Graham having made an adjustment to the program.
Roland Kirk had just gotten fired from the Bill. He

(02:46):
had appeared the first night, but not anymore, and that
left more time for the other acts on the bill,
including conveniently promoter Bill Graham's own band Wolfgang. Fortunately, led
Zeppelin also got to play a little longer each night too.

(03:16):
Thirty years ago, on November eighth, nineteen ninety four, Jimmy
Page and Robert Plant released their album under the title
No Quarter. They were, in fact doing a new version
of the led Zeppelin song of that name. There had
been a lot of keyboards on the song in the past,
but nobody was filling that role this time. Attention, if
not to The lyrics were split between two sonic elements,

(03:38):
Jimmy Page's electric guitar and Robert Plant's voice flanged through
a chorus pedal.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Oh that's because it's going through that old gray boss
chorus pedal. Well there's a boss, but yeah whatever, Yeah,
so it's very flanged. It was taking the human voice
and distorting the hell out of it and churning it
up and actually making the lyrics of No Quarter and
the whole a sort of complexion of reintroducing people to
what Page and Plant wrote and sounded like.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
