Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our get the
Letout calendar. Forty years ago. On December ninth, nineteen eighty four,
a second crowd of thirty five hundred at the Hammersmith
Odeon saw the new four piece band Jimmy Page had assembled.
Jimmy debuted his band, The Firm, over two nights in
West London. The Firm played more than their first album's

(00:25):
worth of songs. They left no time for either Bad
Company or Led Zeppelin songs. However, Jimmy's violin both solo
was familiar. Jimmy also played once this descending lick from

(00:45):
Kashmir seventeen years ago. On December tenth, two thousand and seven,
the surviving members of led Zeppelin reunited along with Jason
Bonham original drummer John Bonnell. Those four played a set
at a charity concert held at the Two Arena in London,

(01:07):
and I was there. It was amazing. The bill also
included foreigner guest artists such as Paul Rogers and Ronnie
Wood sitting in with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, and also
a prog rock lineup featuring Keith Emerson of ELP and
Chris Squier of Yes. A few days ahead of the show,
Jimmy said he was looking forward to playing a two

(01:28):
hour set, which, in true Zeppelin fashion, had yet to
be finalized.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
We'll know what the set is when we do our
sound chip. But with works on a prospective set in
so much that it started with an hour.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
That's the stot that they have for us. Fifty five
years ago, on December eleventh, nineteen sixty nine, Led Zeppelin
attended a ceremonial awards presentation at London's Savoy Hotel. That
year had seen led Zeppelin playing around one hundred and
fifty shows and delivering the albums led Zeppelin and led
Zeppelin Two. At the end of that year, both albums

(02:00):
were certified gold and platinum they had sold. The Parliamentary
Secretary to the Board of Trade, Gwyneth Dunwoodie, presented four
record awards to them and told them, quote you seem
to be gas rockets rather than led Zeppelin's unquote. Sony
Pictures Classics is expected to release the movie Becoming led
Zeppelin in the new year, perhaps coming in May of

(02:22):
twenty twenty five, and it'll focus on led Zeppelin's first
year right through their homecoming to England thirty years ago.
On December twelfth, nineteen ninety four, John Paul Jones played
in Vancouver, Canada, wrapping up his North American tour with
singer Geamanda Gallis. They had released an album together, The

(02:42):
Sporting Life, and gone on tour in support of it.
John Paul Jones said he had thoughts during that tour
that he should go solo, which he ultimately accomplished before
the end of the millennium. In nineteen ninety nine, he
released his solo album, Zuma, and he toured in support
of it through two thousand. John Paul ja Zones toured
again in two thousand and one and two thousand and
two around his follow up album, The thunder Thief.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
This is a continuation from Zoomer and the whole idea
for both albums was really to give himself material to
play live on stage. And that's what it's all about
for me now, is just to get out on the
road and play the stuff and then make another album,
you know.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
On December thirteenth, nineteen seventy five, Led Zeppelin attended a
performance at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Robert Plant was in
a wheelchair at the time, all four members caught quote
an evening with Donovan in his only Southern California appearance.
Following an auto accident, Robert Plant took up residence in
Malibu and recovered from his injuries. Led Zeppelin came to

(03:38):
him and they rehearsed in Hollywood. They recorded the album
Presence in Munich and were releasing it in the new year. However,
they wouldn't be touring until Robert could stand and walk again,
so the best medicine for Robert at this point wound
up being seeing Donovan perform live with all three of
his bandmates alongside him in the audience. This is Karl Miller.
