Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Leadout calendar. On December sixteenth, nineteen seventy five, Led Zeppelin
played a one time live jam session with house pianist
Norman Hale at Beian's West Park. This happened on the
island of Jersey, where led Zeppelin was staying for tax
purposes while they were unable to tour. Robert Plant hobbled

onto a stool where for forty five minutes he sat
down to sing. All four members of led Zeppelin were
technically the guests of house pianists Norman Hale. Robert resisted
every temptation to do anything beyond chair dancing at the
risk of re injuring himself because he had been in
a terrible accident fifty years ago. On December seventeenth, nineteen

seventy four, hundreds of kids who were lined up outside
Madison Square Garden's box office were asked to scid outle.
They all reflexively lined up upon learning led Zeppelin were
going on tour again. The only problem was tickets weren't
going on sale until sometime in January. For shows in February,
the crowds had shown up in December, which was way

too early and they needed to leave. Swansong Records issued
an official statement advising led Zeppelin fans to disperse for now.
In the new year, led Zeppelin fans could again follow
Joni Mitchell's instructions in her song would Stop. On December eighteenth,

nineteen seventy one, led Zeppelin had already begun their next
studio recording project the month after they released their fourth album.
They fit recording sessions into their schedule whenever they could,
even while they were on tour in the UK. Some
of these recording sessions at London's Island Studio resulted in
their song No Quarter. Led Zeppelin ambitiously had another songwriting

and recording session around this time at Stargroves. This was
the home of Rolling Stone singer Mick Jagger. Speaking of
the Stones, we expect to be wishing a happy eighty
first birthday today to guitarist Keith Richards. On December nineteenth,

nineteen sixty eight, Led Zeppelin played at Exeter Civic Hall
in England. Their gig happened to be the Christmas Ball
for Exeter Art College. Jimmy Page was himself a former
art student. He studied at Sutton Art College in Surrey,
where he thought health complications might keep him from working
as a touring musician.

I went to an art college. Somebody sort of starting
to talk to me as an individual, as opposed to
like a number room. At that time within art college
the debates discussed between themselves and with the staff certain
aspects of what you were doing.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Soon enough, Jimmy, the art student was moonlighting as a
studio musician. He would get office to record, so he
wound up pursuing music again anyway. On December twentieth, nineteen
seventy two, Led Zeppelin played at the Dome in Brighton, England.
This was their one and only show at the Dome.
For most stops on led Zeppelin's UK tour, they played

two nights. This was the sole exception in the entire
month of December. Led Zeppelin played at the Dome and
were gone immediately afterward. Their next two show stint in London,
was the last before led Zeppelin's holiday break. Their one
time appearance at the Dome went down in history as
the source of a medley of traditional Christmas carols. As
Robert Plant shouted mid song that night, happy Times, Happy Times.
