Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Leadout calendar. On January twenty seventh, nineteen seventy three, Led
Zeppelin played in Dundee, Scotland. On stage, Jimmy Page wore
a blacktop with an embroidered red poppy design. He writes
about this particular outfit in his book The Anthology. Jimmy
wears it on stage in Wales on this same UK

tour and at the LA Forum a few months later.
Jimmy says, quote, I bought this top from a ventured
store whilst on tour in America. I began wearing it
on stage in nineteen seventy two. It's the first appearance
of the poppy and I called upon this theme for
future led Zeppelin stage where unquote. On January twenty eighth,

nineteen seventy three, Led Zeppelin performed in Edinburgh, Scotland. This
happened to be their final visit to Scotland for live performances.

For the past few years. Jimmy had owned real estate
overlooking Lockness. The Scottish tour dates offered him a chance
to stay in one of the five bedrooms at Bolskin House.
In December of the same year, Jimmy invited a film
crew onto the grounds for some outdoor scenes and led
Zeppelins The song remains the same. Fifty years ago, on

January twenty ninth, nineteen seventy five, Led Zeppelin performed in Greensboro,
North Carolina. Robert Plant had just rested for a few
days while he was recovering from the flu, but he
still struggled throughout the show. While the show was often

referred to as one of the weakest Zeppelin gigs vocally,
you can prefer to think of it as one of
the strongest Zeppelin gigs instrumentally. Thirty years ago, on January thirtieth,

nineteen ninety five, nearly twenty five million viewers tuned into
the primetime broadcast of the American Music Awards when the
International Artist Award of Excellence went to led Zeppelin. John
Paul Jones received his award in person, and then the
broadcast cut to a rehearsal room at the Depot in London.
Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were preparing for their world tour.

As if to signal that they'd bring a whole lot
of lead, Page and Plant reinterpreted Blackdom Robert Twirld, Jimmy's
guitar effects, shifted octaves, and extra woodwind musicians added the
drones of Didjerydos. On January thirty first, nineteen sixty nine,

the gospel group Porter's Popular Preachers warmed up the stage
at the Fillmore East in New York ahead of led Zeppelin.
Promoter Bill Graham liked combining acts that had little to
do with each other musically. Led Zeppelin had a little
more to do with the group. They in turn opened
up for Iron Butterfly. They both had ties to Atlantic Records,

and the label had advertised their joint Filmore appearances along
with their albums as though they were equals. The stint
of the film wore involved two performances each day on
two days whenever led Zeppelin's time was up. It never
got any easier saying goodbye to them and welcoming Iron
