Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Letout calendar. On March thirty first, nineteen ninety five, Jimmy
Page and Robert Plant played at the Palace of Auburn
Hills outside of Detroit, Michigan. This was the twentieth show
of their No Quarter tour. Nothing seemed out of the

(00:29):
ordinary on stage, that is, until they learned of a
would be attacker who had been stopped some fifty feet
from the stage. It had taken the combined efforts of
security crew and even fans to restrain this pocket knife
wielding suspect. Page and Plant made it out of Michigan unscathed,
and they continued to remain out of harm's way for

(00:49):
the remainder of their world tour. On April first, nineteen
seventy one, Led Zeppelin capped off their return to the
club's tour of England with an exclusive London audience of
only four hundred at Paris Theater. Audio of the show
was condensed into a one hour time slot and Led
Zeppelin became the first guests of a nationwide radio show

(01:11):
called In Concert with John Peel. The BBC ran the
show twice that week. Led Zeppelin had delayed their appearance
by one week while Robert Plant rested his voice. His
first lead vocal of the night happened to be a
Viking whale. Here are his Viking Whales from that night's
opening song. On April second, nineteen seventy three, Led Zeppelin

(01:43):
finished their European tour, playing their second night in the
suburbs of Paris. They left France with Gold Album Record
awards for their fourth album. The follow up to that
album was Houses of the Holy, which had just come
out in France. It was bound to be led Zeppelin's
next round of Gold Record awards. One of that albums
songs was briefly a regular in led Zeppelin setlists. The

(02:09):
show place one year at only about three and a
half minutes long. Dancing Days was dropped immediately following the
French dates. On April third, nineteen seventy seven, Led Zeppelin

(02:31):
played at the Myriad in Oklahoma City, the follow up
to their tours opening night in Dallas. Ahead of those
two shows, they hadn't played live and well over a year,
and due to their touring equipment having been shipped early
to America. Led Zeppelin has spent the last few weeks
ahead of the tour, unable to rehearse, That makes their
choice of an opening number the song remains the same

(02:53):
even more impressive. John Paul Jones said, we had this
technique we could just walk on stage with seeming as
if we're looking at each other hiding the back of
your head. Just see a twitch and you defint that.
It became this other joke, you know, you could just
see if you catch anybody out and used amaze everybody.
Nobody knew how we did it. It was just like
sort of a sixth sense. On April fourth, nineteen seventy,

(03:15):
Led Zeppelin played the Indiana State Fair Colisseum in Indianapolis,
and around ten thousand people were there to witness it.
That's according to Zach Duncan's coverage in the Indian News,
which also said quote At ten o'clock, lead singer Robert
Plant announced they were going to finish the show. About
a thousand viewers who wanted to beat the traffic left

(03:37):
early and missed the best part of the show. The
quote last song lasted almost a half hour. Their closing
song ended, and the colosseum rumbled with enthusiasm in chants
for more music. Led Zeppelin did return, this time for
the song that everyone had been waiting for. This is

(04:02):
Carol Miller. Thanks for Getting the let Out. Check back
next week for another Get the Letout Calendar podcast
