Letout calendar thirty five years ago. On June thirtieth, nineteen ninety,
Eric Clapton, Sir Elton John and Paul McCartney and Tears
for Fears all performed at Nebworth Park in England, ahead
of closing performances by Genesism Pink Floyd. A rare reunion
of two Zeppelin members took place as Robert Plant's solo

band welcomed Jimmy Page on lead guitar for their last
two songs, both of them Zeppelin songs. They followed up
their live debut of Wearing and Tearing with a more
familiar concerts stable from Zeppelin's fourth album, Rock and Roll,

fifty five years ago. Around July first, nineteen seventy, led
Zeppelin recorded at Island Studios in West London's notting Hill.
Pretty Much all of the acoustic material on the B
side of led Zeppelin three was recorded, at least in
part right then and there. They had just enough acoustic
material to fill the B side of a single with
an exclusive non album track, and still to have another

acoustic guitar instrumental reserved for their first double album four
and a half years later. But another leftover was a
fully electric studio jam called Saint Tristan's Sword. Even though
it was incomplete and without vocals, it came out ten
years ago this month on the deluxe edition of Coda

forty five years ago. On July second, nineteen eighty, led
Zeppelin played at the Ice Stadium in Mannheim, Germany. In
ten years of touring that country, this was Zeppelin's first
time in Mannheim. They sold out two nights with crowds
of eight thousand each night. Jimmy Page took a look
at that first crowd in Mannheim two songs in and
said this, I'll see some of these spaces to go

down in front. Oh my god. Jimmy was supposed to
announce the song title black Dog, which he had a
habit of translating into the native tongue. However, Jimmy changed
the song title altogether on the first night in Mannheim.

nineteen eighty, led Zeppelin played a second night at the
Ice Stadium in Mannheim, Germany. Both nights setlists were identical.
While Zeppelin varied the encores, they didn't dare tweak which
song inevitably preceded them. That was Stairway to Heaven. John
Bonham's drum entrance takes place several verses in and both

crowds eight thousand strong attempted to clap along to the rhythm.
Here was the first one. The second night's crowd showed
signs of improvement. On July fourth, nineteen sixty nine, the

Atlanta Raceway in Hampton, Georgia, began to host a two
day music festival with a two fingered peast sign as
its symbol. One month ahead of Woodstock in New York,
they had that vibe happening first down in the Deep South.
The Atlanta International Pop Festival attracted perhaps as many as
one hundred and twenty five thousand attendees. Johnny Winter and

Creten's Clearwater Revival played the first night after a day's
worth of other acts. The second night featured Janis Joplin
and just ahead of her led Zeppelin. It's jaw It
