Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our get the
Leadout calendar. On August eleventh, nineteen seventy nine, the Nebworth
Festival in England was held, and led Zeppelin members were
in a reflective mood for a second weekend in a row.
Here was the mood between encores on the first weekend,
I say thanks for eleven years. Led Zeppelin had formed

(00:23):
eleven years earlier in August, and that month they were
delivering their eighth studio album, The Future was Unknown. Between
final encores at Nepworth, the audience sang a song intended
for led Zeppelin to hear, You'll Never Walk Alone. On

(00:49):
August twelfth, nineteen sixty eight, Led Zeppelin gathered for the
first time in a basement in London's Soho. They not
only met in person, but they set up and played downstairs,
probably its studio nineteen, the location shown in Becoming led Zeppelin.
Jimmy Page listened as his other potential bandmates started to

(01:09):
play bass, drums and harmonica, and he played guitar. He
suggested two songs from his Yardbirds days, Train Kept a
Rollin and Dazed and Confused. Six and a half years
after Led Zeppelin's first rehearsal, Dazed and Confused, was still
in regular rotation in their shows. Jim after the movies,

(01:34):
Side of the Ships and Little played together. On August thirteenth,
nineteen seventy seven, Led Zeppelin had been scheduled to perform
in Philadelphia at John F. Kennedy Stadium. The concert capacity
of one hundred thousand would have been a new record
attendance for led Zeppelin. Unfortunately, this was among the American
tour dates Zeppelin had to cancel while Robert Plant was

(01:56):
mourning his son's death at home in England. Eight summers later,
in nineteen eighty five, the three members of led Zeppelin
who outlived John Bonham reunited for Live Aid. This brought
them at last to JFK Stadium in Philly. Playing for
twenty minutes was enough for the time. Either request did

(02:18):
he request. On August fourteenth, nineteen sixty nine, Led Zeppelin
played in Austin, Texas, with one sporting act called Laughing
Kind and another called Flash. Christopher Cross was one of
the members of Flash. Yes that Christopher Cross in the
song Sailing Takes Me Away. You know that song right well.

(02:42):
Jimmy Page evidently recognized Christopher Cross's face after a few
consecutive days of touring in Texas, and so he asked
who he was. Christopher informed Jimmy he belonged to one
of Zeppelin's supporting acts, and Jimmy soldim a guitar amp.
When it was Flash's turn to perform, Jimmy watched from
the side of the stage and had Robert Plant alongside

(03:03):
him too. When Christopher Cross noticed them watching from the wings,
he said quote he needed a change of pants afterwards.
On August fifteenth, nineteen seventy, the New Haven Jace's Pop
concert season finale took place at the Yale Bowl in
New Haven, Connecticut. These pop shows had begun with three
Dog Knight supported by the James Gang. The second weekend

(03:26):
was with Peter Powl and Mary. After a week off,
the third show featured Chicago supported by Delaney and Bonnie
and Friends. The only Farnacht to play the Jac's concert
series was the Hottest Ticket led Zeppelin and their encore
left Yale wanting more, but their limousine was taking off.

(03:56):
This is Carol Miller. Thanks for getting the Letout. Check
