Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Letout calendar. Thirty years ago, on October thirteenth, nineteen ninety five,
Jimmy Page and Robert Plant performed at the United Center
in Chicago. They were thirty shows deep into their American
dates on their No Quarter tour. One of their previous
tour dates, back on April twenty ninth, had also been
in the Chicago area at the Rosemont Horizon in April.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Got it be fair to say that time the that
song originated some three hundred and fifty years.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Ago in England. Returning for their second Chicago area show
in a year, Robert told the crowd, we tend to
do a few different things from last summer in time. Indeed,
the Rosemont and Chicago setlists were completely different. Things kept
evolving for Jimmy and Robert early the following year, while
touring South America, Japan, and finally Australia. Fifty five years ago.

(00:52):
On October fourteenth, nineteen seventy, led Zeppelin received two record
awards at the Savoy Hotel in London, recognizing their exports
to the US and Europe. Anthony Grant was the British
Parliamentary Secretary to the Ward of Trade and he handed
out the awards. John Bonham sat out this occasion, but
the arrest of led Zeppelin were on hand to receive it,

(01:13):
as was band manager Peter Grant. Sales of their Whole
Lot of Love single in the US had exceeded one
million copies. This earned led Zeppelin a Platinum award. A
Gold award was given for European sales of led Zeppelin two.
At the same time, they were now releasing led Zeppelin
three to the world and hoping for similar results. Thirty

(01:34):
five years ago. On October fifteenth, nineteen ninety, led Zeppelin
released the compilation Remasters. Not only was it their first compilation,
but it was the first time Jimmy Page was in
charge of remastering for compact disc.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
At then he put out the CDs. Some of the
CDs didn't sound a tool up to scratch to me,
and it just didn't sound right. This gave a really
good opportunity to get the sound lines on them.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Jimmy selected a few key songs from each led Zeppelin
studio album and he fit them onto two CDs. Vinyl
enthusiasts got three LPs remasters has been out of Prince
since nineteen ninety nine, when it was made obsolete by
the two volume Best of led Zeppelin set. Those compilations
also became obsolete with the release of Mothership in two

(02:19):
thousand and seven. On October sixteenth, nineteen seventy two, Jimmy
Page and Robert Plant traveled together in India. John Paul
Jones and John Bonham preferred to go home to England
after their Japanese tour. Jimmy and Robert were spotted at
a Mumbai nightclub called the Slip Disc. Within three days,
they pulled together local musicians to record new versions of

(02:40):
the led Zeppelin songs for Styx and Friends. Their recordings

(03:01):
were officially released ten years ago on the deluxe edition
of CODA. On October seventeenth, twenty twelve, the film of
led Zeppelin's reunion show, known as Celebration Day, was released
worldwide in theaters. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones,
and Jason Bonham had played a full length show together
in London nearly five years earlier, and I was lucky

(03:22):
enough to be there. The next time those four were
seen together publicly was that the film's premiere in New York,
and I was there for that too. I was really
happy when Robert Plant recognized me from the stage of
their press conference before I introduced myself, and then both
he and Jimmy explained why they were so sensitive to
bad reviews in the press. Our full exchange was more

(03:43):
in depth than this Karl Miller from New York Radio
Lallion years yet white, because well.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
We want.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
