Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our get the
Letout calendar. Fifty years ago. On November seventeenth, nineteen seventy five,
John Paul Jones played the Steinway piano located at music
Land Studios in Munich. Led Zeppelin were recording their album
Presence there, which did not include any keyboard work. Jimmy
Page and John Paul composed this piece that did not

(00:22):
make the album's final cut. With the piano in the foreground,
it sounds very different from everything else they were recording
at the time. It has the strange title ten Ribs
and all carrot pod pod pot. Led Zeppelin held off

(00:44):
from releasing the instrumental for forty years. When they issued
the bonus disc to Presence, it was the only non
album track on the collection. On November eighteenth, nineteen seventy one.
One British pound is all a cost to catch led
Zeppelin's performance at Sheffield University in the UK. That's if
you knew to show up six days in advance when

(01:05):
the limited supply of fifteen hundred tickets went on sale.
Jack Bruce, the bassist and voice of Cream, was playing
at the Students' union the night Zeppelin tickets became available
for purchase. Student tickets for this show cost only seventy
five pence, three quarters of led Zeppelin's purchase price. Led
Zeppelin tickets had been cheaper three years earlier, the first

(01:26):
time they played with the lower refractory. That was before
anybody had heard of led Zeppelin on record. Throw me
your life Time to see ten years ago. On November nineteenth,
twenty fifteen, the Experienced Music Project in Seattle, now known

(01:48):
as the Museum of Pop Culture, presented its ninth annual
Founder's Award to Jimmy Page. The award recognizes legacy artists
who made quote profound influence in music quote. Jimmy received
his award and spoke about passing on the baton to
future generations, making.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
People happy, but also being able to pass on the
battle to young people.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
I know That's what I'm here to do now. It
is all about passing on the battle. A who's who
of rock musicians took the stage to perform led Zeppelin songs.
When the levee breaks and ten years gone and even
radioactive by the firm. Jimmy waited until the end of
the night to sit in playing the solos on Zeppelin's
Rock and Roll. On November twentieth, nineteen seventy five, Led

(02:31):
Zeppelin recorded the quote reference mix of their song for
Your Life. This is the alternate version of the song
that wound up on the bonus disc of Presents released
ten years ago. When you compare this mix to what
sound the album, not many differences stand out. The guitar
solo used on the album came later, so the reference
mix gives us a rare glimpse into led Zeppelin's recording process.

(02:54):
In Munich, West Germany, Jimmy Page crammed guitar solo over
dubbs for most of the album into a marathon multi
day session, ultimately replacing earlier solos like this one thirty

(03:15):
years ago. On November twenty first, nineteen ninety five, led
Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant suffered a heart attack while he
was driving. His cronary episode proved fatal and thus ended
the sixty year life of the man who led Zeppelin.
Peter was survived by his son Warren, who was in
the car with him at the time, and his daughter Helen.

(03:36):
Peter famously revolutionized music management in favor of musicians rather
than concert promoters. He arranged for led Zeppelin's ninety ten
split in profit sharing on tours that was unheard of
at the time but has since become the industry standard.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
There are a lot of managers, unfortunately on what is
known as record company managers. They're going to make a
deal when like kind of a two pound with the
record company. Hence you don't going to get the best
for your act, but you get your commissioned.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
