Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sean Callahan joins us here on eleven ten kfab our
Husker insider Sean, you had a chance to talk to
coach Rule over the weekend. What's he thinks so far
about what he's seeing from these guys.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah, I mean he's definitely keeping, you know, just a
business as usual approach. They've gotten five practices in, which
is crazy. I mean they started the spring before anybody
in the country did. They've been able to get outside,
which has been good. And you know, you never know
when you start springball February twenty first if you'll be outside,
So that side of it's been good. But yeah, I
(00:32):
think the offensive line, the guys they brought in has
been really good. For those three U transfers, the quarterbacks
they've brought in, you know, the mobility of the quarterback,
particularly Anthony Calandria, I think has already jumped out throughout
the practices. And you've got Rob Orrich with his defense.
You know, with all the new coaches, some of the
new players they've brought in, just getting right to work.
(00:55):
I think that was the whole emphasis why they've attacked
spring this early, because there's so much that needs to
get done and they want to get a jump start
on it.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, Colorado is not even starting their stuff here until
I think today or maybe later this week. We are
already on our way. Are we the earliest in the
entire country? Do have started at this point? Tour?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Is this yes?
Speaker 1 (01:16):
A trend in college football?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
They were the first Power four to begin springball, and
they are one of just three schools that play a
March spring game. To kind of put it in perspective,
u CLA won't even Nebraska will be done with spring
when UCLA starts spring. So you can do it a
lot of different ways, and you know, sometimes you have
(01:39):
to manage these spring breaks and your academic calendar and
how you want to do it. And what's going to
happen this time around is there's going to be a
solid extra month of winter conditioning that happens after spring.
So you know, you normally you might have a couple
extra weeks to winter conditioning and then you do springball
and then you might have just a couple of weeks
(02:00):
of real lightlifting. Well, by having this early spring, you're
going to have all of April to kind of run
another phasier lifting program. So I mean there's still going
to be it's just different ways of how you want
to do it. And then you know, May is always
kind of a down month where the players go home
for about two some two three weeks before they come
back on campus and begin the summer program in late May.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Well, not only that, Sean, but I'm also seeing a
lot of national attention right now for this this young
man who transferred in to play for Nebraska but first
do a senior year at Millard South. He's getting a
lot of attention, and not just from other high school
students here in the Omaha area who have jokingly over
(02:43):
the past several weeks said, committed to Millard South, going
to go play with my boy Tray and the Patriots.
But he's the kind of seems like the real deal,
doesn't he.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, he's a twenty twenty seven. But this weekend he
was out in Atlanta at the seven seven on seven event,
which is the best event arguably in the country. And
the guys I work with text me to the guy,
he's the best quarterback here. So you know, he is
having a really good you know lead up to his
(03:14):
time here in Omaha, and he'll be you know, it's
time in Omaha at Millard South is literally going to
be just a few months. I mean he'll he'll be
practically done by Thanksgiving and then he'll be a Husker
because you know, you can join the team for bull
practices once you graduate from high school. Your high school
stuff done. But it is going to be a story
everyone's going to follow because you also have the two
(03:36):
Omaha Central studs, Tory Pittman and Kylon Haney, their Division
one Power four targets and one, and Pittman's the recruit
that they've left Central to go to Miller North. So
Miller North has gotten two studs, and then obviously Millard
South's got the two with Trey Taylor, and then West
Side's got a bunch of guys. Yeah, it's going to
(03:58):
be an interesting landscape epe in high school football this year.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
My gosh, to say the least. And Sean glad to
have you here to help sort through it. We'll talk
again on Wednesday, all right, all right, thank you,
