Speaker 1 (00:00):
We got the sports brief Huscar Buzz edition with Sean
callah Am Jim Roads.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
All Right, Seana, did you watch any of the Penn
State Michigan State game? And if you did, what were
your impressions?
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Well, they ran the ball. I mean, they're starting two backs,
had over forty carries for over two hundred rushing yards.
And if they do that to Nebraska, it's gonna be
a tough, tough game this week. So, I mean, I
think that's the biggest thing. And I still think this
Penn State team is fighting. I mean, regardless of the record.
Now they're they're looking at hey, let's let's get to
(00:30):
a bowl game. We got to beat Nebraska. We've got
to beat Rutgers, and they're probably going to play in
the pinstrike Ble or something, so this will not be
a picnic in The point spread suggests that Nebraska is
a ten point dog as we head out the State
College for a night game, which will be Nebraska's sixth
night game of their five road trips this year. Four
of the five road games this year have actually been
(00:52):
night games, so tough drawl with the night games, especially
with four of them this year being on the road.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Penn State is just such an enigma this year because
they still have the same players. Now. They did lose
their starting quarterback, but by all accounts, the backup is
playing as well, if not better than Drew Aller. But
this team just has not put it together, and that
lost to Indiana you'd think would deflate them. But it's
senior Day, and Senior Day means something there if even
(01:20):
if it's probably gonna be thirty degrees outside and not
very favorable.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yeah, the student body as well begins their fall Thanksgiving
break on Friday afternoon, so I'll be interested in how
many of those kids stick around to Saturday night. Maybe
maybe they will and just make a weekend out of it.
But that's another X factor. What will the student environment
be like for this game? Knowing the students are off
the entire next week, they get a five day break
(01:47):
Monday through Friday, right after classes in on Friday this week,
so that's another thing to track. I think it's going
to be a good atmosphere, though I do. I think
the fan base there's a lot like Nebraska. This Pan base.
You know you're in, Like when twenty twenty one was
going on here and it was a three nine season.
Fans still came here too and support it. I think
(02:07):
it's gonna be similar in Penn State.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Okay, we referenced this last half hour. Matt Rule was
brazen at his news conference last week about nil Now,
this is a guy, quite candidly who's been whining about
nil money since he got here. He got a new matter,
we gotta have more. Well on last week at his
news conference, he just let it all FLI says, we
got all the money we need right now. That really
(02:31):
surprised me. You don't hear coaches paint themselves into a
corner like that.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah, and nobody really seems to know what he was
talking about there. We probably should have followed up on that.
But the revenue share everyone has that now on the
big ten in the SEC, everyone's full rep share. So
the other money has to be true business INIL deals
that are done by a third party, not the school.
(02:58):
To an extent, Playfly and Adidas can maybe be involved,
but where that's probably where it stops. So nobody really
truly knows what he meant. And I'm talking about people
directly tied to the collective even like you know, they
didn't know for sure what he was referring, but I
think Matt Rule is trying to send a message that
they're going to be aggressive in the portal. It's kind
(03:18):
of a reason why I don't think they're overly aggressive
with their twenty twenty six recruiting numbers. They lost another
kid in the class last night. Leon Noyle on Offensive Lineman.
I think they're focused with what they have remaining in
terms of resources is going to be towards some very
high profile portal pieces again, and that's what they did
last year. And yeah, I think high school recruiting in
(03:41):
general is on the back burner for a lot of teams,
knowing how impactful the portal can be with the mixture
of high school recruiting.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah, I wouldn't recruit high school kids because they can
go to a mid major or they can go to
a lower power for they can demonstrate how good they are,
let them train them, let them build them up, and
then you can throw money, Adam to get it to
your place. I don't like it. I find it intolerable
as a college sports fan, but that's the name of
the game.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Now, you're right, now, why would you pay a high
school kid a million dollars right.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Now underwood, you know, unless you're a can't miss high
school kid, which are pretty rare. But yeah, I was
just as confused as the rest of them. Okay, which
Nebraska companies have stepped up to say, all right, we're
going to put together twenty to twenty five million dollars
of NIL deals for football play?
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I think it's more likely, guys, that somebody with a
very large checkbook suggested the coach rule that maybe you
ought to pipe down about this. But then I'm getting
call I'm getting calls people thinking I'm cheap? Would you
please knock it off? I wouldn't be a bit surprised
that's what happened.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Well, it could be, but he still has to have
because of the revenue share. That's the institutional money that's
about twenty million, But the rest of it has to
be legit nil deals like Texas has or like some
of these other people have, right Seana.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
And there's only about one or two checkbooks that could
really do a Gary suggested of the state that support
the program. I mean, and one of them runs the collective.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah, First National Bank is very involved. They've done nil
deals with volleyball players and football players. But I don't
know this, but when you say we have the money now,
that pretty much says we're going to get the players
to win the national title.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
I hope he's right. Sean. Thanks and now Sean here
is from Matt Rule. Today. Husker is getting ready for
Penn State, and he's with us every morning with Oscar
