Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right on a sports Breed now Husker Buzz EDITIONI
with Sean Fellahan, our big Red Insider live in Lincoln.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Rosie, Now, Shana, as you know, you get around town
quite frequently and people demand your time and attention. So
I'm about ready to arm you with some great stuff
this week. Do you know the difference between a terrapin
and a turtle?

Speaker 3 (00:20):
I do not, Rosie.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Okay, here you go. This is why KFAB has the
largest audience in North America. A tortoise has claude feet,
A terrapin has claude feet. A turtle has flippers.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
That's right, That's it.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
That's it. That's a hell of a mascot right there.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Well, what a nuggative information.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I'm telling you. You'd lay that on some of the
people you deal with, Seana. People are gonna go God
that that Well, those Nebraska guys know what I am.
Man he is he is ready for Jeopardy.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
So it was Coordinator's day yesterday, Sean.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Right, Yeah, we heard from Dana Holverst and John Butler
and and you know some looking back to last week
a little bit, and Dana Holderson said, obviously those two
quarters into the win, he hasn't had any quarter, you know,
a stretch like that in his career. They just couldn't
find their rhythm. But he knew once they tied it
up and they had the win, he's like, we're they're

(01:16):
going to win that game. And they're really confident once
they had their rhythm back and the win behind them,
and how they held in there. But there's no doubt
there were some things that they had to look at
with not just the protection but just the rhythm of
the offense and and a few you know guys were
there are two or three plays they called where guys
are wide open for touchdowns and and they just you know,

(01:38):
they're one. There was a missed assignmon on protection one.
They just missed it. So those are some of the
things that they want to work on. But they got
the win last week. He was happy and and now
they're going to see a really good front four. Maryland's
front four has produced I believe, fifty eight pressures as
as just the starting four guys alone. So they're going
to get after Nebraska with not necessarily a lot of

(02:01):
blitzing because those those down four guys will will cause
a lot of havoc. You know defensively, John Butler, you
know his unit too. We'll see an offense that throws
it a lot. Not a great running team this week, Maryland.
They don't run it and heat the quarterback malikue Washington's
not a dual threat guy so to speak. He'll move
the pocket, but he won't take off and run. But

(02:24):
you know for the secondary, they're going to get a
real test this week.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Well, this zayre mathis for them, is one of their
best defensive linemen, most productive. He only weighs two hundred
and twenty two pounds. So what do they do with
this guy? They obviously move him around and stunt him.
The other big one is Dylan Fonta, sees a three
hundred pounder. This guy's an NFL prospect. But tell me
about these guys. Are they prospects? Where they sleepers? Are
these highly recruited guys? Or has Maryland developed them so nicely?

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Well? A couple of them are really young players. I mean,
I think freshman sophomores have guys. I mean, so they're yeah.
I mean Mike Loxley has always been and recruiter. I
mean that has been his mo since his days when
he was at Alabama, so he he has a access
to talent in that area there in the DC Maryland,
Virginia area. And and B he's been a great recruiter

(03:13):
his whole coaching career, so he's gotten material to College
Park over his time. They just haven't always had a
complete roster to you know. And they've been in the
same division his whole time with Ohio State, Penn State,
and Michigan before we switched to this new style that
we're in, so you know, same type of deal. There's

(03:33):
gonna be wide receiver talent on this roster, there's definitely
defensive line talent. And now they have a national top
one hundred true freshman quarterback in Malik Washington.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
I think good to Nebraska's toughest offensive assignment of the year.
I mean, the Black Shirts are going to see a
better passing attack in this game than I think the
rest of the year, including Penn.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
State defensive assignment for our defense.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yet for our defense, I.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Would say this though, it's a good man because you
have a quarterback that doesn't run, and you have a
running back game that doesn't really produce, and Maryland leads
the country guys to twenty two drop passes twenty two.
To put that in context, Nebraska only has six drop
passes on the season.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Interesting. Sean thanks our Big Red Insider for the buzz
every morning and the afternoon buzz with Emory just after
