Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our Huskar inside are live and like here's Rose all right, Seana. Well,
it was a win.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It was not a very impressive performance by Nebraska against
a team of struggles defensively, Dylan Rialda did not have
a good game.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
But it's a win.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
And you know, the special teams were so dominant for
Nebraska in this game that it was inevitable the Huskers
would win. The question now becomes how much more improvement
can this program make?

Speaker 1 (00:25):
It's five games in.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
You know, the defense made a huge jump, huge jump
Saturday in a lot of areas. I thought that was
a big storyline. We're not probably talking about enough. But
I mean Michigan State only had twenty one rush yards
on fourteen first down runs. They did a lot of
great things with the Sam McCullough Williams when Arry had
a lot of new faces out there and special teams

(00:47):
as you know, so at the time we had the offense,
I mean they played fifteen of their eighteen holes of
golf and the irons into the wind. I mean, it
was it was. It was a rough day on the
weather and I think it I don't know if that
has much of effect, but they okay, nine minutes in
the first quarter, They're at fourteen to nothing. That was

(01:07):
the last time they had the win behind them until
the start of the fourth quarter. I had never seen
a game like that. But then on top of that,
just the way Ryola played, the way the offensive line play,
they were just out of sync. You know. Dylan Ryola
only had four throws between ten of twenty yards down
the field and only one that was twenty yards plus

(01:28):
down the field, so five total. Before the game Saturday,
you know, he had made a ton of throws in
that you know, he was I think it was twenty
to thirty one on throws you know, down the field
of ten to twenty yards, So it was a completely
different look. You know, the depth of his throws was
not what we're normally used to seeing from Dylan Riley.

(01:49):
On Saturday, he only averaged three point four yards per
throw down the field against Michigan was eight point one.
Against Houston Christian it was nine point one. So there
was no depth on his throws and he I mean
there was protection issues at times as well, but he
was holding the ball too long at times and there
just wasn't something clicking with the offense.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
I just wonder watching his body language. I just wonder
that after that dreadful series, when Jacorey Barney returned the
ball on that punt return and then Nebraska win in
reverse forty five yards. I'm just wondering if things started
to rattle for him and the coaching staff said, look,
we just can't have him stand in the pocket because

(02:32):
he's getting killed. Part of it is his responsibility. You're right,
he needs to get rid of the ball faster. But
when you bring in guys to protect for him, that
cuts down on the number of options and it takes
our receivers a little bit longer to get open. But
that's the way it's going to be in the Big ten.
I just wonder if they didn't adjust some of the
play calls, given that Dylan had just been pummeled on

(02:55):
that series. He was destroyed on that series, including a
bad snap.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, and on plays where he was under pressure, he
held the ball for over four seconds. On plays where
he was kept clean, he got rid of the ball
two point three nine seconds per throw. Holding the ball
for four seconds, you know, under pressure, that's that's just
unless your mahomes, I mean not never any quarterbacks do that.
I would like to see him throw it away more.

(03:22):
I don't know why he's not throwing the ball away.
It's almost like he protects his completion percentage at times
because there are opportunities. Hey, if nothing is there, you
just throw it away, you know, save the play at
that point, because you let a team that came in
with only six sacks. They had five sacks on Saturday,
and you know, two or three were charged to the

(03:42):
O line, but the other ones were charged. But yeah,
it was a bizarre game, guys. The wind I you know,
last year's record game was very similar. But I'd never
seen a game where the win kind of change the
complete flow of things for for Nebraska and what they
did for a better part of the game until they
got the ball into the win in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Yeah, I might disagree with you a little bit on that.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I think that you can mitigate the win by throwing
shorter passes and doing some other things. But yeah, the
win was a factor, no doubt about it. The problem
is Maryland is a ball hocking collection of raiders. These
guys get after you on defense, maybe as much as
any team we've played so far. Look at that nineteen
sacks and nine interceptions already.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah, they'll have some athletes. Mike Loxley always known as
a recruiter coming from Alabama before he got that job,
and you know he'll bring guys into their Their young
quarterback Malik Washington is six' five two thirty, one big
in the. Pocket, now he's not a. Runner you don't
have to worry about this guy running like eight In.
Childs his long rush of the years just four yards

(04:53):
and he only has six design, runs so it's not
like you have to worry about him taking off Like.
Chiles he'll be a big target for On butler to
go at as a true, freshman and hopefully you can
get him to make some. Decisions but he was a highly,
ranked you, know top one hundred level high score, crewed
a true freshman starter That Mike loxley went with here
and they're four and one and they probably should be

(05:14):
five to.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Zero, yeah it was their. Defense they can't run the.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Ball they stopped running the ball and they lost a
twenty point lead To washington at. Home So i'm sure
they're really unhappy about, that and this will probably be
a signature game for. Them they're, thinking all, right we
need to get The maryland people out fill this place
and Show nebraska.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
REAL a lot Of nebraskans, There, yeah there are a.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Lot Of nebraskans on The east. Coast this is their
best chance see the, team.
