Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sports Brief. Now this will be the Husker Buzz edition
with Sean Callahan, Liven leg and Rosie.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
All Right, Seana, there's a lot to cover. Let's start
with defections in the transfer portal. James Williams, Prince Humamalon
and Danny Klen yesterday a bit of a surprise, especially
Human Maylan, who's promising, promising defensive player and Kaylen capable
backup quarterback, but he knows he's not going to play
as long as Royal as here. Who do you think
(00:25):
may go in today?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Well, the portal is not even technically open either. Are
just guys announcing their declaration. I mean, there's still a
few other lower names on the roster to watch, and
I don't want to just throw their names out of
fairness to them, and you know what they're thinking. But
you know, you're going one hundred and five players. There
(00:49):
are guys that obviously didn't play a lot in some
positions that are lower on the depth chart, and those
are the more the ones I'm hearing that are next,
which is going to be the norm every year in
college football.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Okay, so you had to be surprised by the announcement
of Williams and you Mammalen though.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah, princewell, you know he played one snap in the
Iowa game. He played more snaps the year before than
this year. He played like two fifty last year and
snaps in about two hundred this year around that number.
So you know, it's playing time in his role, in
his production. We're not what you think this year. So
(01:29):
it just wasn't clicking for whatever odd of reason here
after what looked to be a very promising true freshman year.
So something just didn't click for him and he went
in James Williams is surprising. It makes you wonder about
Terrence Knighton that you know that he was at bull
Terrence Knighton was at practice yesterday. Nebraska had a belot
bull practice, but Florida State. You know, there a lot
(01:51):
of speculation that they are making a hard push at him,
and I believe that's gone back and forth. He's very
close to Terrence Knighton, so I don't know if that
could have a factor in this discussion or not. And
Daniel Kalin, Look, he's behind Dylan Ryle. It's gonna be really,
really hard for him to play quarterback at Nebraska for
at least the next two years. And I don't think
(02:14):
you know he was waiting down and I think Nebraska
is still believed in the plan they had in place,
like he was going to have his opportunity here eventually
and developing this program, but you wanted to move on.
So he was at Nebraska essentially for one year when
you count the early and roly portion of his time here,
and he'll move on.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Okay, it is National signing Day. There's no such thing
as letter of intent anymore. Everybody's got a slightly different
deal that involves nil cash. But as I look at
this roster and we want to get your color commentary
on it. Sean Callahan, Isaiah Mosey, the wide receiver from
Kansas City, Jamarion Parker, the running back from Saint Louis,
Christian Jones, the linebacker from west side. Of the top three,
(02:57):
do you agree? Who else do you think gives the
premiere prospect in this class?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Well, Dawson Merritt's the highest ranked. I mean, if you're
going off the consensus industry rankings, Dawson Merritt today is
their highest ranked guy by far, at a ninety two
point ninety eight. And then Malcolm Simpson, a defensive lineman,
is the next highest then Mosey. I mean it's a
good group. There's you know five. I mean it's ranked
(03:25):
nineteenth right now. Now it's twenty first, excuse me in
our industry rankings. It's changed a little bit, but they're
on in a position to land. Cortez Mills this morning
out of Florida, a four star wide receiver, very close
with ja Corey Barney. That's going to be a nice
bump here. Michael Terry is somebody to watch today to
still most think he's going to land at Texas. But
(03:46):
you know, Christian Jones, I feel like the defensive group
of players they've added is extremely impressive. Pierce Newberry, Christian Jones, Cade, Pedshock,
Malcolm Simpson. I mentioned about Dawson Merritt. Another guy that
I think is really that got a lot of attention
late was Jeremiah Jones out of Kentucky. The six foot five,
(04:06):
two hundred and seventeen pound athlete can do it all.
We have him ranked as the number one player in
the state of Kentucky at ON three. I know the
other services have him ranked, you know, different than ON
three does, but our scouting team has him far and
away the number one player in the state of Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Right now, all right, and the number one player in Nebraska.
Jones doesn't typically get the kind of attention because he's
from Nebraska. But Tyson Terry, the lineman from Omaha, North
I hear he's an exceptional prospect. What do you like
about him?
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, he's another version of Nash top maker. I mean
they're the exact same size and a lot of respects
at this age because of wrestling. I mean, to wrestle
in high school, you've got to hover around two hundred
and eighty five pounds, and Nash did that. Tyson did that.
They're the same height, both blonde hair. So I think
Tyson Terry, that's the plan. They want to develop him
(05:00):
into a version of Nashat Moker, a true knows he
has a chance to be the first ever four time
state heavyweight champion in Nebraska high school wrestling history. That's
hard to do. I mean, to win that weight class
as a freshman, let alone to it four in a row.
That's a grown man's weight. And he was that strong
and developed as a freshman in high school. And he's tough.
(05:23):
I mean, he is a north Omaha tough kid. The
Terry family has been a part of the Omaha North
North Omalk community for you know years. Everybody knows who
they are if you live in North Adding Tyson is
a great addition.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
That's for the future. That's great, But that's for the future, Sean,
just a minute left here you look on at Huttmacher, Robinson,
Jamari Butler, now James the sac man, and male what
he's got to hit. Matt's got to hit the portal
big time. We're not going to have a defensive line.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah, they're I mean, they're gonna have to. So next
week in Gary as what are we gonna talk about.
There's gonna be lots the next two weeks the portal
officially opens and they'll have visitors on campus from the
portal the next two weeks.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Man.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Just remember, you know you got to get down to
one hundred and five. But if you want to go
Christmas shop into the portal, that's going to end, guys.
So there's gonna be a lot more people leaving that
program in the next three weeks.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I was texting with Shawn the other day, I said,
how what do you think buzz every day. Said oh yeah,
there was a lot of.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
This is the buzz for there you go, the big box,
the huge money, there you go.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
