Right shot out news conference yesterday before a bye week
that always invites a more reflective tone, and you heard
it from Matt Rule yesterday. He wasn't long on specifics,
but he was very tall on Hey, look, we're making
progress even though we lost the game.

Yeah, I mean there's a lot of things. You know,
after four games you look at and think about you
got a week of practice now and time to move
forward and looking at your schedule, and you know, I
think they've got some things on the offensive line that
he figured out as they move into next eight games. Uh.
And then the number two running back spot too, and
do they have a number two running back? And you know,

I think you know, point blank he was asked, why
why didn't we take a transfer running back or another
guy to kind of compliment Himmett, And you know, Jamar
Brown from Creighton Prep was one that made sense as
a guy who plays high school football for former Husker
Timmy On. He was coached by Damon Benning and the
Little Bike's program. And Sam Sledge was a high school teammate,

but Miami came in and bought him out of the portal,
and Nebraska could have had him, and he's pretty much
the co starter at Miami right now right away. So
he said, look, we did have the money. I mean,
the price got driven up and our budget at that
point had been had been gone. So yeah, I mean
there were some of that stuff too, But three to one,

I mean, I still think there's some things that he
really likes about this team. And you know, he knows
they're not going to see a lot of pass rushes
like they saw against Michigan either. Obviously Penn State and
some of these teams down the road, but you know,
Michigan might have been one of the best, if not
the best front sevens they'll face.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Well, I was watching Minnesota. They got some pretty good
young down people. I was impressed by Michigan State. I
watched that Big Ten Football and sixty their game against USC,
and they hung right with USC and they made some
they made some physical plays on defense that game. So
I don't know, I don't know that you're going to
see a pass rush like Michigan, but you could see

one close to Michigan. I don't think u se La
or Northwestern. Well, let me ask you about offense. We
talked about Nebraska is not committed to running the football.
So if that's the case, Sean, your take on this,
why don't we just go to the air raid?

I mean, spread the team out.

Spread.

You got all of these playmakers, you got Barney and
you got Mills, you got all these other terrific young receivers.
You've got to back out of the backfield who can
catch the ball. You got a quarterback who can throw
in the mailbox. Why don't we just go to the
air raid to spread, no huddle, just get the ball
and fired out there and try to move the ball
and keep the other team off the field, if.

You're being honest about it. In the second half, that's
what they went to. I mean, Emma Johnson only had
five carries for ten yards in the second half against Michigan,
and they were slinging around the yard in the entire
second half. And you know, I also, you know, I
think when you look at this running back room, there
just isn't big plays there. I mean, you get the

the three to eight yard run, but there's no diviny,
big vote sixty yard runs coming out of there, roy Hallou.
So yeah, it makes a lot harder because a the
blocking hasn't been as good up front, and be the
backs haven't had the ability to really get much past
that second level, let alone the third level.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Man, I just say, hey, no, huddle, don't put him
in the pocket, roll him out to the left or
roll him out to the right, and keep Delan Royola
upright and just trying to move the ball like that.
And Dana Holgerson did that with Mike Lee to Texas Tech.
So you know, let's not try to make something, make
us into something we're never going to be.

No, I don't want to throw the towel in yet,
do you.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
No, no, no, no, But I do think you're going to
see Dylan, you know, pretty much break every passing record
in Nebraska this year. It's set up for it's the
touchdown record twenty six and the passing records like thirty
six hundred yards and he is well on his way.
