Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, I'm a sports breathing now the Huskar Buzz
edition with our big Red insider Sean Callahan, Lieman, Liken Rosie. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Well, at least for a day, Seana. Most Nebraskans are
actually thinking about Michigan and the situation with Sharon Moore,
the former head coach of Michigan football. He was dis
missed yesterday with cause. There are allegations that he had
an affair with a staff member and a young administrative assistant.
Why somebody has an attractive young administrative assistant as executive
(00:28):
assistant to the head football coach. I don't know, but
I'm much I don't know. So this is the situation.
But apparently those close to the program knew this was
going on for a long time.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah. Our team at ON three that runs the site
called the Wolverine. I mean they, I know had been
preparing like coaching hot boards and things behind like this
is what we do it on three. When things like
this happen, you have to have all the material ready,
and there had been you know, talk about this going
on for you know, the last several weeks, a few
weeks for sure, and in all this drops, I mean
(01:02):
it's a wild story, you know, just something that is
going to completely shake the entire college football landscape. And
just the coaching carousel. Now, guys, sixteen of the sixty
eight Power For jobs have come open this year. This
is the type of job that could open up another
one or two. So we've never really seen a carousel
(01:26):
of this kind with so many big time jobs LSU
and Florida and down the line of Penn State. Of
what we've seen Auburn and now Michigan.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Well, Cheron Moore got the job because he was the
number two to Jim Harbaugh, was the offensive coordinator there.
He's a former football player at Oklahoma. He was alignment
at Oklahoma in the early two thousands. This is a
guy who worked his way up and took over when
Harbaugh was first suspended and then when he left and
has not had great teams, but they did beat Ohio
State at Ohio State last year. Well, why you would
(01:57):
fred or away a six million dollars a year job
with all of the perks that come with it and
actually get fired for cause, which means they're not going
to pay him any severance. He walks away with nothing.
Astounds me. Sean and you're close to these guys. They
make massive amounts of money, they have huge, huge platforms
from which to be celebrities. Why would you engage in
this behavior? What drives somebody to do such categorically stupid things?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, it's this ego and human beings or human beings,
and we make mistakes. That's this life. I mean, we
know a lot of people in our own personal worlds
that have done mistakes and made mistakes like this too.
And just to throw this all the way, right, I mean,
I can still remember shrowing more being in Omaha for
the entire week when he had his offensive lineman that
(02:44):
year win the Outlet and the Remington, and his wife
was with him that whole week. I remember bumping in
him in the lobby at the Rococo and Lincoln, and
you like what, I just thought, what a nice man.
He seemed like a very like a very nice guy
at that point. And but you know, if you're being
really honest, Michigan, he was never the answer there either.
I Mean, I don't think he was ever going to
(03:05):
be the guy that took them to the next level
after the Hardball deal, But it made sense to retain
him to keep that roster together, but I'm interested where
they go. It's a guy like Brian Kelly Kellen the board.
Alabama's name continues to get mentioned there too. I mean
(03:26):
there's a lot of this is Lincoln Riley's names on
this list. There are so many names now that have
hit the wire, and there's thought that they've been working
on us already behind the scenes, and Michigan's leadership know
what direction they're going to take this thing.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, that's my thinking is that since this investigation has
been going on for three weeks, they started compiling at
list and started talking to agents, and it seems to
me the Chip Kelly, Brian Kelly guys who are immediately
available and have no buyout, they don't have to pay
any school to get them. I don't know what Deboa's
buyout is at Alabama, it's probably significant. So they're going
(04:01):
to say, look, we can get a guy who's won
at the highest level, whether it's Chip Kelly or Brian Kelly,
and not have to pay a buyout who might be
a cultural fit. So I'm not too worried about Michigan.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
What you feel for are the assistants and the staff
people in the office. There I mean, you've got probably
fifty to one hundred people that are affected now by
this is with their own jobs, and then he's one
of the new guy comes in. He's going to bring
in all new people.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
I heard a great suggestion that happened to a coach
around here not too long ago, and his behavior led
to the ouster of several assistant coaches, and it was very,
very hard on those.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
I heard a great suggestion last night, guys, John Harbaugh. Now,
how symmetrical would that be?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
I don't know. You know, I think they're done with
the Harvaugh family. If he could do what his brother
did that, I think they're done with the Harbaugh's in
Michigan for right now. But now transfer portal, obviously Michigan
has players, and you're going to see a mad rush
to their guys by all these third party toadies representing schools.
(04:59):
Hey we're open for business, you interested. This is a
really critical week because they can't end to the portal
technically until January, so they got to get somebody this
week to keep that from happening.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, I would not be surprised if we know they're
coach by Sunday, And I think you know this thing's
gonna move quickly. It's a very attractive job. This won
the national championship a couple of years ago, and they
were one game away from making the playoffs this year. Really,
if they just would have won either the Oklahoma game
or the Ohio State game, they're a playoff team.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Okay, Sean, Well, chat tomorrow. Thanks our Big Red insider,
Sean Callahan
