Okay, Doug, now, Seawana, Let's talk about Jacob Bauer for
a minute. After John Bullock started that last game, I
was pretty sure this is the last walk on that
whatever start for Nebraska football. And when you look at
Jacob Bauer's career, he's sort of like Lazarus has been
dead several times somehow resurrected and now Matt Rule's talking
about him as a starter this year. Give us the
backstory on this California rugby player.

Yeah he didn't hear make the one hundred and fifteen
man fall Camp roster, and yeah, he's put himself in
a position where he can make that rotation. I mean,
I still don't think he's going to start over. You know,
Vincent's Shavers and some of these other really talented guys,
but you have to have a rotation. I mean, Mark,
he's watching Trent and Vincent Shavers are probably your starters,

but after that you need some other players that can
rotate in there. And he's put himself right in the mix.
I mean, Javin Right's there too, But Bauer has been
a great story, and Matt Rule has rewarded him as
somebody that a year ago at this time wasn't even
a thought to here we are right now. And that's

you know, when you think about Saturday, the history of Nebraska,
the walk on program, I mean stories like that right
there that are still living today that made the walk
on program so significant for Nebraska.

So repeat what you said in case people missed it.
A year ago. He didn't even make the one hundred
and fifteen man roster, so he was essentially not in
the football program a year ago, but he stuck around.

Right, Yeah. He When you don't make the one fifteen,
you report to the team on the first day of
classes in August, so you don't get to go through
the first three weeks of practice, and then you essentially
just show up and get summoned the scout team the
first day. You know, you don't even get to run
the plays, and you know, do Nebraska's offense and defense

your scout team on game week and all at that point,
and then they already have guys on scout team, so
it's not like you're even getting much of a chance
because of the one fifteen. I mean a lot of
those guys make up the scout team once they break
up in the units. So yeah, he was buried by
all intents and purposes and was able to get himself

back to this spot.

There are a lot of colleges between Brancho Santa Margharita,
California and Nebraska who missed on Jacob Bauers, who had
one hundred and sixteen tackles this senior year. Speaks really
well for rule too. I think, yeah, I stuck it.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I do. I mean, I've seen this before. We're out,
You're gone right forget about him? Sure, you know, no doubt?

Speaker 2 (02:39):
All right now, this transfer portal could produce a back
that we're familiar with.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Yeah, Tamar Marty Brown from Creighton Prepp was the FCS
Freshman of the Year. Redshirt freshman. He's five to eleven
two and eighteen pounds power runner, had nearly twelve hundred
yards and fifteen touchdowns for the Bison in their national
championship season, winning the portal. You know he'll be right now.

He's regarded arguably as the best running back in a
transfer portal. Right now that's available and he is going
to visit Nebraska on Thursday. And from that last night,
he's visiting Miami today. He's getting lots of attention LSU, Indiana, Nebraska, Miami, several,
North Carolina. He's got a lot of teams that have

inquired about him. But you look at the running back
room guys. After Emmitt Johnson, Quintin Ives is the next
most experienced guy and he has six He had six
carries last year for seven yards. Makai Nelson has never
carried in a game. Jamariam Parker has been out all
spring with bumps and bruises, and Connor Booth has been

going through spring as a true freshman. That's it. That's
the running back room right now. So it is scary
because you know you could go in the year with
Ives and you just don't have enough on him, or
you know you can bring in Jamar Brown and have
a true, proven one to two punch with Johnson and Brown.
I think it does make a lot of sense.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Well, it's going to boil down to as we've heard
coaches say multiple times, it's about playing time, a path
of playing time and money, and if he doesn't feel
like he's going to get on the field enough, and
I'm not sure how many times Nebraska. He's going to
run the ball next year, and he's got to go
someplace where at least he doesn't have to compete for
the starting job. Didn't that make sense, Sean?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Well, a year ago they were a fifty one percent
run forty nine percent pass, So I mean they're pretty
close to fifty to fifty. You know, there's going to
be thirty six to thirty eight runs a game and
a lot of games, and the quarterback run is not
in there anymore. Back when Martinez is were here, you
had a lot of quarterback runs set eight up carries.
You can't give him a Johnson thirty eight carries a game.

So you have to have other guys that can carry
the football wide receivers. But you know, I think for him,
the opportunity here has never been better. Because Dante Daladell left,
they really never replace dalto I think we forget that
Ramir Johnson left. It is to me an big time
roll the dice to just go into the year with

Emma Johnson and then the other guys you have.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Are you saying, Sean, there's no design quarterback run players
in the playbook.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Well, there will be a few game, you know, a
couple two three game, you know here and there. No,
it's not like the games were Martinez Adrian could take
fifteen carries in the game. Twelve carries in the game.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Yeah, sure, you don't want him running the ball. If
he's running the ball. This is an NFL style quarterback
and you don't see those guys running. I don't.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
But you can't have zero. You can't have the zero if.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Thirty tailback carries. I mean there probably be like thirty
tailback carries a game, and you can't. You know, Emma,
Johnson's not built takes thirty carries. So you've got to
have a good guy with him, and you know that
could take another eight or ten or twelve with him.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Got Well, let's see how many influencers are in the
ear of mister Brown.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
What are the chances there? Quickly, Sean, I think as.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Long as Nebraska really pursues him and wants him, and
you know in the anial is a big factor too.
I mean, I like your chances. I mean he's a
local guy. I think his mom and his family want
to be somewhere close to watch him play. So Nebraska,
if they come at him hard, I mean they got
a great chance here.
