Speaker 1 (00:00):
He's onward to Sports Brief. Now this would be the
(00:02):
Husker Buzz edition, but Sean Callahan live in Lincoln, Rosie.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
All right, Sader, shout up. Before we get to the
Husker Buzz, which is the latest from Husker Camp, there's
not a whole lot of news coming out of there.
I want to ask about John Bullock. This is a
guy who has reversed the most remarkably insurmountable odds that
you can Number One, he walked on and walk ons
don't play. Number Two, he was a free agent, and
(00:28):
free agents don't make NFL rosters. He played at Nebraska
and he's on an NFL roster. This guy is remarkable.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Yeah, he really overcame the odds, as you know. And
I talked to his dad, Steve yesterday actually briefly just
how great of a moment this was for him and
his journey. And it's sad in some ways because these
walk on stories now aren't going to really be there anymore,
because people aren't taking walk ons because of the new
roster limits and rules. And John Bullock will be possibly
(00:59):
one of the last of those kinds of stories that
we hear come out of Nebraska, where you know, he
worked his way up and you know he arrived in
Nebraska during the COVID year he was and that even
adds to the story that he's old. Like NFL teams
usually don't want older guys that were walk on, but
that's how a big of impression he made. Also, Jason Lick,
(01:19):
the GM of the Bucks, is a Nebraska native, so
he naturally does have you know, he likes players from
Nebraska because he knows the work ethics there and then
the toughness in the attitude that they want in the organization.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
But he's also a player. He's he's a guy that
was productive. This was not just some feel good Hollywood
story to make headlines.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
He can play foot as of things at Jimmy the NFL,
it's a business, it's a business. It runs. He runs
probably in the four fives. Wow, he's extremely, extremely fat.
He played safety and moved his way down to a
linebacker by the time his career was over. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I just think of all of the kids that have
come through Creighton Prep, and they've had just a horde
of outstanding athletes through the years. This guy stands above
so many of them because of the story. And I
just think that should be illuminated more. All Right, Kyle
Kuonannen is the starting kicker.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Go yeah, Kyle Kunanan won the job in this saw
of surprise. I mean I think that that was kind
of the projection really throughout camp, mainly because his ability
to strike the ball, his his his balls can cut
through the wind. He's got a good strike on it.
They all can kick from distance. I think what that
separates Kuonanan is his ability to hit it harder and
(02:32):
and and and you know, make sure it doesn't get
affected by the wins. No, you will see John Hall
probably be the kickoff specialist. Alvano is going to be
there in that possible role as well. But you know
Eckler's guys are starting. He brought in Couonan and he
brought in the punter Archie Wilson. Those are the two
specialist starters. And you know that's just not a surprise
(02:54):
when when you when you know how it usually works
when a new coordinator or a guy brings in players.
And I know Eckler is very very high and look,
Brett Maher has a big voice in this too. And
you got the former Dallas Cowboy and former NFL kicker
working with these guys every day, so you're gonna get
a pretty fair accurate evaluation, and I know they really
(03:14):
like Kyle Kananan.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Is Tristan Alvano one hundred percent recovered from that very
serious groin injury. It was not just a standard groin pull,
It was a groin tear. It required surgery and a
lot of rehab. Number one, is he fully healthy? And
number two, if you're Tristan Alvano, you got to be
thinking the transfer portal.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
You know, it's just hard to say on that because
the transfer thing is he likes it at Nebraska, and
you know, yeah, the health thing, he hasn't spoken to
the media this year. I mean, he's basically the third kicker.
I mean, so it's really hard to even know where
he fits. The one practice we watched the reps, there
were ten live field goal reps and the other guy's
(03:56):
got four or five and Elvano got one. So it
really kind that paints the clearer picture of where he
was at probably in that discussion, and you know, he
did suffer a bad injury and you just don't know
where he's at. It's not necessarily as much business, I'm
sure it's mental as well, just coming back for him
after what he went through the last year.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Is it comes from a great family, westside kid who
obviously will have that remarkable, incredible moment when he kicked
all those field goals in the state title game. But
I'd like to see him kick for a Division I program.
If he's going to be sitting on the bench here, great,
We're glad that you love Nebraska, but dude, go someplace
where you can kick, all right, go someplace where you
(04:36):
can do this. He's got talent, unbelievable talent.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
He's to the game tomorrow, Sean. Are you ready for that?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
I'm right dust them out, boys, Yeah, Yeah, My keys
loaded to go to Kansas City in the morning. We're
leaving right after I get off.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
I'm driving down awesome savoy grill, Buddy, that's where you
want to go?
Speaker 1 (04:54):
And un is that?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Where?
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Is that what you hit for dinner? Sean?
Speaker 3 (04:58):
But I'm acute thirty nine guys.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Well, expect a full report Friday. But Shan's back on
with Emory this afternoon just after five. Husker Buzz Morning
and afternoon
