moment Sean Callahan. I'm wondering before the Husker buzz here
whether Jim we have a Trev Alberts curse. He goes
from Nebraska's athletic director to Texas A and M. Immediately,

Texas A and M knocks Nebraska out of the March
Madness Tournament. I think that was both the men and
women that year, a couple of years now, that's correct.
And now Texas A and M that they've beaten us
in a couple of other things here over the past
couple of years, and now this big loss for the
Nebraska volleyball jugg or not at the hands of Texas
A and M. Treev Alberts is there and he's walking

around the locker room and ticking people off.

At one time, I considered him a good, close personal friend,
and I admired him greatly as a player. But I'm
losing respect for Trev Alberts on a number of levels,
and I think a lot of Nebraska's are too. Number One,
you don't whine about what you're getting paid. You get
paid what you want, and then you leave and say
it's because there's a leadership gap at Nebraska. We all

know that was not true. And if you come into
our place, you keep a low profile, all right, You
stay behind the scenes, you don't get in front of
television cameras, and you don't walk around like you still
own the place. And you sure don't go into the
other locker room, our locker room after our loss and
act like we still like you. Okay. I just think

there's a certain narcissism inside of him that I never
really knew existed until recently. So I would not have
led him in there. I would have had him arrested
for trespacks. But that's just me.

to do some things that they weren't willing to do.

do things. How's the Texas A and M football team
this year?

Their playoffs in the playoffs, right, Okay, he wanted to
spend six stadium. How's their volleyball team? Their volleyball team
is good.

If you remember, it was Texas A and M that
also ended Nebraska's women's basketball season, that record setting basketball
season about ten or fifteen years ago, when the Huskers
were undefeated, number one seed in the NCAA Women's basketball Tournament.
They got beat in the regional semifar. Well, we can't
get Trev Alberts credit for that. He was you and
I didn't get played for that. Okay, so I don't
know that you're ira a. Trev Alberts is in the

I will be for years to come, and thank god

was an interesting look by Albert but honestly not surprising.
I mean, he was there Thursday, very present talking to
Troy Dannon. And look, let's not let it take away
from the volleyball we watched. That was, yes, Nebraska loss,

but what are a remarkable moment for that sport. And it's
a shame, you know. Selfishly, I wanted to see Husker
fans take over Kansas City. I wanted that sport to
be showcased with Nebraska fans. I just hope and pray
the other teams like Wisconsin and A and M and
Kentucky can fill Kansas City and still make that what

it should be that event, and hopefully the Husker fans
are capable of getting all these tickets dumped that they
bought probably a year in advance for this Final four
in Kansas City.

Yeah, and the hotel rooms that they leased. And it
was really expected, especially after the first month of the
season when we played all of those top ten teams
and just beat them like rended Livestock, and people are going,
this is not just a good team. This is the
greatest team of all time and I got to be
a part of it. If you watched it on television yesterday,
Sean what you found was a sport truly elevated by

those two teams. I mean the casual sports fan had
to be watching that on ABC thinking, wow, this is impressive.
These are impressive athletes. The atmosphere was off the charts
and the tension was as thick as fog. So the sport.

Volleyball is on the rise. There's no doubt. I think
the challenge has always been how do you program it?
Because there could be hour and twenty minute matches and
there could be three hours, rightjets. And that's what's held
the sport back from television is and Troy Dannon has
talked about this, the networks are so scared, you know
that you can get these really long matches that make
it a challenge to get properly placed in the windows

on the major networks. But you know, I don't care
who you are. When you watch a women's college jolleyball match,
it looks dominating. You're like, WHOA. I mean, it's an
impressive display of athletic ability, and you know, the athletes
really present themselves at a high level off the court,
with social media and all the things they're doing. There's

no doubt it is on the right little girls want
to play volleyball, and basketball numbers everywhere in this country
are down for various reasons, where volleyball numbers right now
are exploding, Where high schools are cutting lots of girls
that all want to play volleyball. It's just complete flip
of the sport. And yesterday was a great reminder of that.

Okay, let's talk a little football. Because the transfer portal
doesn't open for another couple of three weeks. The teams
that are either not in bowl games or like Notre
Dame for example, or who have coaching transitions like Michigan,
what do you anticipate hearing this week relative to the
transfer portal? And let's specifically talk about Michigan. We all
thought they'd have a coach by this morning. They don't yet.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yeah, I mean, is it Jed Fish who just got
done coaching on Saturday? As Washington be Boys State. I
just have a hard time thinking Kaitlin de Bores leaving Alabama.
It just doesn't seem like he's got a lane kiffing
in him to do something like that. So I don't
know what direction Michigan is leaning at this point. I mean,

Brian Kelly is a great available free agent, but is
he the guy they want there? I mean, there's so
many ways that that they can go. But their roster
remains intact because technically portal you can't technically really do
anything as a prospect till January second, so you do
have time to kind of manage things. But they've lost
(06:36):
their They're going to lose a lot of their recruits.
We've seen a few of these Nebraska kids, you know,
leave Iowa States recruiting class, and a couple of them
landed at Penn State this weekend. Kids from Nebraska, so
it you know, there's a lot of movement going on everywhere.

Okay, I mean I think John Gruden is now turning
into maybe a candidate for that job. He'd be a
dynamic presence in the Big Ten. But I don't know
that it's it's a good fit for college football anymore.
Bowl preparations. What are we doing this week?

Full week? This week of practice. This is kind of
their last full week in Lincoln, and then they'll get
a couple of days off for Christmas and then they'll
leave on the twenty six. So this is kind of
the heavy lifting week all the new coaches, I believe
are in town involved in this too. I mean, Rob
Orwich is here, Jeep Wade is here. So they've got

a lot of new faces here, and you know, it
is interesting to hear just how they've kind of blown
up the defensive line. Matt Rules coaching d tackles, Mike
Eckler's helping with edges, Terry Braden's fired. The preview or
the edge coach for this regular season was Phil Simpson. Well,
he's assisting Matt Rule now with defensive tackles, So probably

not a good sign there either for Simpson's future when
the head coach is assisting you at a position you
didn't even coach during the regular season. So there's a
lot of shake up and movement, and that upfront group
is going to be something to watch with Eckler now
involved coaching that group as well as Matt Ruhle.
