Speaker 1 (00:00):
Are we going to sports brief the Husker Buzz edition,
(00:02):
Sean Callahan, living leg and Rosie.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, very good, Santura, now Shana, we have Nebraska Cincinnati.
A lot of people think of Cincinnati as a mid major,
but they're not. They were in the playoffs four years ago.
They're in the Big Twelve conference. Now do they have
big boy talent?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Yeah? You look at this team and they've got a
you know, a high caliber quarterback, two former Big Ten
running backs and Pryor who was at Ohio State and
Tybee Walker who was at Wisconsin. The best defensive lineman
in the Big twelve arguably in Corleone. So in an
NFL level tight end. So they've got five or six,
(00:42):
you know, pretty high level guys. They've brought in some
new receivers. This will be a test. I mean, they
don't have obviously the depth of a Big ten or
SEC roster. But in an opener, you know, with a
head coach that's fielding some pressure in sadderfield at Cincinnati,
you know they're gonna come out ready to go. I Mean,
(01:03):
there's a reason why this point spread has hung out
at around six and a half seven points all summer.
And oddsmakers think this could be a pretty tight game.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, they also got a transfer wide receiver. Now, Nebraska
brought in a bunch of new people to catch the
ball from Dylan Ryola, Brandon Soresby, the quarterback is going
to look at Cyrus Allen, the wide receiver transfer from
Texas A and M. Is that a big upgrade for them?
You talked about Joe Royer or the tight end. Does
this give him a genuine second threat?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Well, I know during fall camp they've been really really
happy with the receiver play at Cincinnati and they think
that they've upgraded, and that's the portal. I think every
team every year is going to feel like they've upgraded,
and that's what the point of the portal should be.
And Nebraska's tried to do that every year. A wide receiver.
Really they thought last year they were fairly upgraded, and
(01:50):
it looked like they were at times from the twenty
twenty three season, But now they think they're a lot
better in twenty five than they weren't twenty four. And
I think Cincinnati is the same way with some of
the pieces they've added to this team. And again, the
pressure I think Saderfield is feeling here to get it
done this season.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
And they also got Joe Cotton, the offensive tackle from
South Dakota. He's an NFL level prospect six foot seven,
three hundred and fifteen pounder. Is this a guy Nebraska
had any interest in.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
No, I mean they've got their tackles already across the board.
I mean it's a good offensive line at Nebraska gym.
Seven other eight guys that have been SEC Big ten
or Notre Dame starters in the eighth and that top
group would be the Utah transfer Tyler Knack, who's been
here for a few years. So when they look for alignment,
they look for very specific guys this year, guys that
(02:42):
they know would be starting level players, and Rocco Spindler
obviously fit that bill for the interior, and then Elijah
Pritchett from Alabama. They really only targeted three tackles in
the portal this offseason. Nebraska did and then they are
arguably the three best tackles in the portal, and they
landed I'm pritching.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Okay. Speaking of Elijah Prickett. Pritchet we visited about him
last week. This guy is not the starter. According to
the depth chart, in fact, he's not even second string.
He's third string left tackle. I had a million dollars.
I think the message was not about his overall performance
this fall. I think the message is directed at him,
(03:23):
and that is, dude, you are not ready to play
for us, and it's got nothing to do with talent.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
What's your take, Yeah, I would be careful. Sadie's third
string gym. They put an or on all three, so
they've been pretty specific saying they have a named a starter.
They were all co ones. But I will tell you this,
in the scrimmage last Saturday or whatever, he was the
number one tackle. In their walk through mock game, he
played number one tackle. So I think Matt Rule is
(03:49):
testing him, he's pushing him. I'm still not going to
be surprised at all. He's the starter. He is, in
terms of potential draft prospects, arguably the highest valued guy
on this roster. Now he's got to play at that level.
You know, he's he's regarded though some regarded him as
a first round type talent in the preseason this year.
So we'll see where this goes. But I would be
(04:10):
pretty stunned if we don't see him on the field
I think obviously Matt Rule is playing this one closer
to the best. But they were all listed number one,
and it wasn't necessarily in a specific order how they
had those guys, So you can't really read too much
into that until we see how plays out here in
game one.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
But the guys do the dudes do they look at
that and they go, Okay, if we're all or or
or how come I'm not number one? They do look
at that, And I think this is great coaching. Actually,
I think that Matt Rule is sending a message, Yes,
we gave you a million dollars, but you have to
earn that million dollars by doing the little things.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
You got to block.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
The right thing kind of hinted at it, you know,
he talked about some false starts and maybe taking the
wrong step, and I think that's all about concentration, and
this is good. This is a coach that says, yeah,
we'll see that, and that's probably healthy.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Sean any I don't think there were any big upsets
depth chart wise, were there there? There are several or
a few that are still up in the air, But
basically it's kind of what we thought, right.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Yeah, the number two number two quarterback with the true
freshman outright with somewhat of a surprise, tells you what
they think at TJ. Latif and and and then when
you when you look at defensive line. It was great
to see Williams when airy kind of co won with
Len Hard tells you when air he's had a good camp.
Jordan Atchoa your number two outright jack ahead of Willis McGahee.
(05:35):
There were no oars there at choa Is at walk
On had scholarships out of high school. Didn't work out
for him, kind of the offers he had filled up.
So he's kind of been a good story.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
