Speaker 1 (00:00):
Shana Alive from a New York City where tomorrow the
Huskers have taken on BC. Is there any buzz about
this in New York City? It's it's a big pro
sports market and this Bowl game is at Yankee Stadium.
How much buzz is there about this game through town
that you've noticed, you.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Know, really not much. I mean, it's just hard to
get a feel in the Husker fans. I think tonight
they'll be everywhere, the ones that are here. I mean,
there's an event right down here at the main Huscar
bar right off Times Square, the Brazen Tavern down here,
and they're expecting, you know, over five hundred people to
fill this place tonight. And we're actually doing a Husker
(00:39):
Online show event at this thing as well tonight, so
that will be kind of the first thing fans have
been to. But yeah, it's really hard to get a feel.
I mean, places massive, and I think some people are
staying in New Jersey and kind of coming in and
out in summer, are trying to stay right here in
the heart of it all, and that's where the media
(01:00):
we're all down here, right in the heart of the action.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
So the Huskers are playing BC, which is a team
that likes to run the ball. But you might talk
about how this is not a typical Big Ten style
running football team, say like Iowa, because they do a
lot of stuff at the line of scrimmage that is
designed to confuse the defense.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, you know, Bill O'Brien is an elite offensive coach,
and you go back to his ten state days and
he's in Texans Alabama. You know he knows what he
I mean, his offenses are always well schemed, well thought out,
a lot of eye candy, a lot of movements, a
lot of motions. You know, Nebraska will be playing some
younger players on defense, particularly at linebacker and some other
(01:43):
spots that they won't have, but they still have enough
veterans to win this game. And Nebraska is a slight
favorite going in. But you know, both games, all bets
are off. I mean, last night, Rutgers should have beat
Kansas State at seventeen point lead in the third quarter
and they blew that lead in case they came back
in one late. So you know, Bowl games in general
(02:05):
are really unpredictable, especially if you're not in the playoff.
And I think when you look at this matchup, I
mean I think Nebraska should win this game, but you know,
anything could happen. I think they have a significant advantage
at the quarterback position.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Talk about the ACC Sean BC comes in with the
one hundred and eleventh ranked pass defense, which appears to
be the kind of thing Dylan Ryala dreams about seeing.
Is this a passing league because you've got such such
diversity geographically in the ACC from Syracuse all the way
down to Miami. Tell me about whether this is a
(02:41):
real passing league. Is that a concern for BC fans
or does it really matter?
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Oh? I mean, I think it's With Dan Holderson having
a whole month to get ready for this game, I mean,
I do expect Nebraska to have a much better plan.
You're going to see a lot of Jamal Banks in
the throwing game. I think Thomas Edoni, Heinrik Carberg, and
you know all the other receivers. Yeah, I do think
that's a way. And and you know, through the running
(03:09):
backs have been big. I mean data Holderson has shown
that he likes to run those sets of the two
backs of the hip pocket of Dylan Rayola, and I
could I could see Ramir Johnson and Emma Johnson being
lined up back there and they'll create matchups in the
passing game and they've had success doing that, so yeah,
this is a BC though you know they play more
of Big ten style when you look at who they
(03:30):
are compared to some of the other teams in the ACC.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
All right, well, I think this will be a chunk
play game and the Huskers good, just enough of them
to get the win. But it would be nice. And
also you'll probably talk about this on the Husk Grondline
show tonight. But Matt Ruhle is doing something very nice.
He's invited twenty six seniors from last year's team on
(03:55):
his dime to attend this game. His airfare, his hotel rooms,
his game, his game ticket, his per diem about fifty grand.
He's going to spend out of his own pocket to
bring in a bunch of seniors from last year's team.
Eighteen of the twenty six apparently, what is the buzz
about that? And what do you know about these guys
coming back just as to be a part of it.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, I think they were all getting in town yesterday
if I'm not mistaken, So I haven't seen the players,
but if he made the promise, and I think when
he did that, he thought a Nashville Tampa. I think
the price on what he's had to spend is probably
double than what do you expect. I mean, this is
I've just read an article on the Wall Street Journal
that there's never been a more expensive time to visit
(04:38):
New York City than now. So it tells you a
Matt rules very you know, he honored his word in
one of those guys to be a part of this
experience because they were a big part of it a
year ago and they fell short and they should have
been a little last year, and he wanted to make
sure those guys were also able to get that reward.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
So that's a neat deal. I mean, he's doing six
point seven million a year, he's going to get one
hundred and fifty thousand dollars ball bonus. Still, you didn't
have to do it, and good for him, And that's
a wonderful gesture on behalf of the guys that he
didn't recruit and didn't coach here for very long. Very
good Seana, I'll be safe.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
I do keys to the game.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
We do, though we kind of talked a little bit
about them, but we want to finish for the keys
to the always.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Do keys to the game the day before the game.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
So what do you got?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Well, I mean the biggest one is the QB advantage
and arrasket that they've got a dan Ryle has got
to hit early in this game. What will they get
out of that defensive line, you know, hot Locker and
Robinson particularly, what is the snapload those guys will play
and how how much will they want to play? I
expect them to play at full first half, but the
second half will be interesting to see, you know, just
(05:42):
what this defense looks like for Nebraska. That will be
a big key.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
See don't you feel better having received that? I'm just
chucked full now of on this thank.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
You script Rosie for like fifteen.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Years exactly and we but plus I also don't want
to you know, jump the line on the Husker Online Show,
which is the only pregame show anybody needs to listen
to tonight for a Husker game, six o'clock tonight on
the Torch.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yep right here on news radio eleven ten kfab Sean,
hope you and your family had a very merry Christmas.
Thanks a lot for being with us today and have
fun out there in New York.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Hey, thank you. Guys appreciate it.
