Speaker 1 (00:00):
On the Sports Brief Oscar Bos edition. We have Sean
Callahan living Lincoln Rosie. Okay, shut up.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
So we have our Spring Festival day tomorrow Memorial Stadium,
everything from feats of strength to airing of grievances. But
we will also have a media challenge.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Now.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Earlier in the week we queried you on this and
you were very vague. What can you tell us about
the media challenge at the Husker Games tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Well, I've been summoned to take part in this stake
and we have to feel the punt, is my understanding.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Are you gonna play Johnny Rodgers in the seventy one
Oklahoma game?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yeah, it's a big moment for me. Yeah, I don't know.
He got away. No matter how it looks, if I
do it, if I catch this punt, it's gonna still
look bad, all right.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
So we'll just recreate the Rogers punt return for you
Callahan deep to receive.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Though it's not going to get at least will give
you a probably a little bit better read on the
ball and the hangtime will be similar.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Forever you get to practice.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
I don't know, you know I'm coming. We have a
first communion in the morning, so.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
That's appropriate. You need to get that. Yeah, you're gonna
want to first get yourself straight with the Lord. Yeah
for you.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Who else is in the media.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Challenge, Well, Damon Benning is gonna, I think, be a
part of it and evidently instruct us. And then Kevin
Suits from Channel ten to eleven, longtime sports structor here
in Lincoln, and then Mitch Sherman from the athletic I
think are the other guys. So it will be a
lot of fun. Yeah, yeah, fulfill the game I had.
This thing though, is kind of slowly turned itself back
(01:41):
into a spring game. We're gonna get sixty plays of football.
I think a lot of the twos and threes will play,
just none of those key frontline number one guys.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Or high number twos. They could be part of a
starting package. They're gonna be real careful about that. And
no video obviously, even though the transfer portal closes at
midnight tonight, there's still you don't want to expose your
guys to any Raiders, any roster raiders out there. But
we also have and again we've had a lot of
people have inquired about the garage sale. You have to
(02:12):
buy a ticket to the game to get to the
garage sale. You can't just walk in with your big
brown bag and scoop up shoulder pads and jockstraps, right.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, correct, And I'm going to go over there this
afternoon and they're gonna let us just shoot a little
content to to may you put a preview out there.
But it's my understanding, a lot of old jerseys, but
not with names on them, equipment and you know, there
might even be some helmets that will be for sale.
I mean, there'll be some pretty cool stuff that they've
(02:43):
got on a load. And you know, I know they
did something like this way back in the day, like
in the nineties, so it's been a long time since
they've done something like this. But they also have a
silent auction thing going on, and you can like win
dinner if Matt Rule, go golf of Fred Hoiberg, you
name it, and gets sweets to volleyball football games. And
(03:05):
I believe that gym is probably tied to the Athletic
Fund somehow, but they've got that going right now with
a lot of cool silent I don't remember them doing
someone of that caliber either, So they're doing a lot
of unique ideas around this weekend as they go into Saturday.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Any idea how many tickets they've sold. It was under
ten thousand before Matt Ruhle had said, look, let's play
some football.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, they haven't said. I would be surprised if it
gets much over ten. I mean, I'm sure we'll find
a way over ten. But you know, there's there's We're
not going to see forty thousand in there. I mean,
I would be very surprised just from the feel I
have of just our subscribers and the fan base I
deal with. I just don't get the sense you're going
to see that. And they haven't touted any numbers either,
(03:49):
which is kind of telling in its own right. And
like this is what it's been everywhere in the country
for the most part, there just has not been big crowds. Now,
Michigan drew well Saturday. On Easter weekend, they drew over
forty and they played a real spring game. Bryce Underwood
through twenty six passes their number one five star quarterback.
So there are still people doing it the traditional way.
(04:11):
And then they've drawn respectable crowds.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
We got about a minute and a half. Let me
ask you about Shadua Sanders. This is this is a
shock to the Shadua Sanders people. But when he voluntarily
left the Nebraska game last year, Sean, that struck me
as a very very dangerous act for him and his
NFL future. Why did he drop out of the first
round according to you, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
I just think a lot of people don't want to
deal with the circus And you know, maybe Dion's.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Comments from a far I think that's right.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
And you know, he's a guy that's pretty much had
his dad coaching him his entire football career, from you
high school, college to everywhere he's been, and so I
thought the Giants might take him. You know, I like
him better than Jackson Dart. I'm being honest, and I
think he's a very talented quarterback and I thought New
York would have been a good place for him. But
(05:02):
a lot of NFL people just don't want to deal
with the risk of that. It's too big of a
risk versus the reward where you know, you got to
get the quarterback position right. I'm sure he'll go fairly
early tonight. I'll be interested to see what team makes
a jump on him in the second round.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, I'm an old miss guy. I think Jackson Dart
is a significantly better field leader than Shadur Sanders. Jackson
Dart would get knocked out of games and be back
in the next series. He didn't see that as Shadu
Sanders this last year. But we'll see Sean a lot
of ability.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Sean, good luck to catching the points tomorrow and we'll
talk your Monday morning. We'll got a wrap up on
spring ball. Sean Callahan, our Husker insider,
