Speaker 1 (00:00):
Shanat as we continue our education here. Classes open on
news radio eleven ten, Kavid B. Do you know how
many different species of clams are in the Chesapeake Bay
of Maryland?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I have no idea, nor should you.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
You're far more busy doing other more important things like football.
But just so you know, and again you can impress
your friends, there are hard shell clams, soft shell clams,
and razor clams. And I don't know the difference between
the three because I don't need a lot of clams,
and I don't get to Maryland very often. But it
takes about two years for a clam to grow up.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Completely interesting stuff you learn on the Husker bus.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Isn't that neat? That neat you guys? You know you're
live on the radio yesterday.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yesterday we were educating folks about the difference between a
turtle and a tortoise, because a terrapin is a tortoise.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
But we won't revisit that. Just go back and listen
to the show.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Okay, So Nebraska taking on the terps eight freshmen, they
start eight freshmen.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Does the Maryland.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Staff how do you play eight freshmen in the Big
Ten Conference and not get killed?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Well? Their two best defensive players are both freshmen off
the edge, and obviously their quarterbacks are freshmen. You know,
but Mike Woxley's always recruited well, he's brought talent. He's
a big recruiter for Nick Saban and he's at Alabama
and you know, so that that's been his That's been
why he got this job, was his ability to recruit.

(01:24):
So they've clearly brought in an excellent group of players,
and they've had a great schedule early to play freshmen.
I mean, they didn't play a power foreign non conference.
They had Florida, Atlantic Towns in Northern Illinois, three great
games to play freshmen. Get him ready, they go to
Wisconsin and and and get him in Madison. I was huge.
And then obviously last week they had a chance to

(01:45):
beat Washington and didn't finish that game off. So I
feel like they've had a good schedule as well, if
you're going to play that many freshmen and and and
now they're home again against Nebraska. So we'll see kind
of where this thing goes for him.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
See Mike Looxley was asked about it midweek. He is
a very respected recruiter, and you know he's had some
staff shakeups. He's brought some guys in from the NFL
to be assistant coaches. But he said, I don't want
to hear the term inexperienced anymore. But coach, you're playing
a true freshmen.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Get it.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
But they've been out there as starters since the beginning
of fall camp and then all the way through six
ball games too, So I don't want to hear about
how five six ball games. So I don't want to
hear about how these guys are in experience. That's a
mentality and that's a raising of expectations. But it seems
to me, Seano that the freshmen came out of them
when they couldn't hold that lead against Washington.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah, that's going to happen when you have players and
aren't used to winning and finishing off Big ten football games.
It takes this a lead amount of mental focus in preparation.
And you know, we saw last week even Michigan State
had a chance to knock the brask out and Lincoln
and it's not easy to do, you know, to get

(03:00):
a win in the Big Ten, and you know you've
got to do everything right down the stretch. You don't,
you don't just get handed a win. And Washington is
a good team, I mean they you know, and they
had a chance to get to win. It kind of
changes everything for them. I'm really interested to see what
the crowd is going to be like out there for them.
I know there's gonna be a lot of debrask fans.
I'm interested, you know what their level of supporters. I

(03:22):
do think it will be. I don't know if it
will be a sellout, but probably pretty close to one.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah, probably between ten and twelve thousand Nebraska fans. There
are a lot of Huskers that live on the East
coast that never get a chance to see the team,
especially in the DC area. Let me ask you about
tackles because Dana Holgerson was asked about it and what
his new process is with offensive tackles. Can you walk
us through what the offensive tackle program is right now

(03:48):
down there?

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Well, I mean they have Elijah Pritchett at left tackle
and gunner or two let right tackle, and they use
the words that this is our future, you know, and
we've got some older guys that might know a few
more things that have played a little bit more. And
I think he was referring to pro Hosca and Earn Corcoran,
but they want to go with these two guys, and
so for Pritchett in Goutula, this game is huge because

(04:12):
they're gonna be going against two really good edge rushers
from Maryland that have produced a lot of pressures. And
that's what Maryland does. They're not a real big, stunning
and blitz team and that they they just beat you
up front one one and this will be an ultimate
test for these tackles, how they hold up and for
Dylan Royola, how he steps up in the pocket to

(04:32):
avoid to avoid these players will be a big part
of this game plan. But those are the guys that
they went with last week and they're going to go
with me in this week.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I noticed that Pro Football Focus did a survey and
an analytical data survey on how long quarterbacks have to
throw the ball at least through the first five or
six games of the season, and Dylan Royola has had
an average of four point zero two seven seconds to
throw the ball. Now, you might not think that's a

(05:01):
long time. It's a very long time in the pocket
and that's one of the best numbers in the country.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
So, uh, what is it?

Speaker 1 (05:09):
It's got to be Mariola because if the offensive line
has given him four plus seconds a snap on average here.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
And that's honest. They do that every play. I mean
they track that on every play for every team. So mean,
it wasn't like a special survey. Mean, that's a standard
stab that they track on Profo well focus and they
call it time to throw. And you know, that almost
tells me he's holding the ball too long, because most
of the time you're getting the ball out, it's in
the in the mid two second range two five to six.

(05:41):
That's one two three throw, one two three throw. That's
how it should be going. If you're holding it for
four seconds, that's a lot of time, you know, for
everything to hold up, to not have a holding, to
not have a sack. So I'm not sure if that's
necessarily a good thing, the four second stay. I think

(06:01):
you'd want that a little bit lower, if I'm being honest.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
As far as getting the ball out, what you'd want
is that, Yeah, you'd want the quarterback to have a
little cushion on the four seconds. All right, Shana, have
a delightful trip out to Washington.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Remember, well, we'll talk tomorrow. I've got one more right,
I don't leave until the morning.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Tomorrow, so well that's even better.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah on Thursday, guys, it's off Friday.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yeah, my Canada is all messed up because the football
team is leaving a day early.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
They're not leaving until later this afternoon. I mean it
really won't. They're going to get there tonight and they'll
they'll spend the night tonight, but they're not leaving until
later this afternoon, and then they'll have a full day
out there Friday.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
All right, that's ka. I would be Husker Info strong
