Speaker 1 (00:00):
On the Sports Breeze Now Special Husker Buzz, Sean Callahan
Live and Lincoln Jim.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
All Right shot.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
It was a busy weekend. Nebraska hit the ATM machine
again pretty hard and against rock O Spindler, offensive lineman
from Notre Dame. This guy is, he's a plug and
play type. Twenty three starts at left guard for them.
So what's his role in Nebraska going to be?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Well, he probably projects is the right guard. That's where
his twenty three starts came. I mean, I think now
the for Nebraska as things play out, how do you
shuffle this offensive line around? Elijah Pritchett from Alabama played
right tackle there for all but one start, his other
start with a left tackle start this year, but I
would project him as a left tackle here. So then

(00:42):
what do you do with Platowski? Where do you move him?
He plays right? Could he play right tackle? Now? Could
he play left guard? And then you have Justin Evans
who most likely goes to center. And then obviously between
Gunner Getula, Turner Corcoran and Teddy Prohaska, one of those
guys would probably filled the fits spot on this line.
So it you know a lot of it now for

(01:02):
Donovan Riola is figuring out the combination that works. But
you've got two high level starters, you've gone out and
added in the transfer portal and preach it.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
And now rock O Spindler and he's a one year
guy grad transfer. So this is kind of the way
that we're trending, I think, and that is go get
a guy who's an immediate impact dude, even it's only
for one year. When Nebraska got several.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Of those two, right, you look across the board, dan
Key is another one at a high dollar acquisition. But internally,
Nebraska feels like this can be a top twenty national
level offense and they've got to build everything right, and
they've done that in the portal. They've added some really
good receivers, two starting level offensive linemen to go with
Riola and what they have. So sixteen transfer portal additions

(01:50):
that they've brought on this roster ties the most that
are added going back to twenty twenty two. They added
sixteen that year as well, So they've been very aggressive.
The financial commitment can't be ignored. I mean, we've never
seen Nebraska be this aggressive within il to get some
of the players they've gotten but this is the new
world we're at now. It's going to be like this

(02:12):
every offseason, highly competitive to land some of these key names.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Yeah, Ohio State, the rumor was it was a twenty
million dollars roster, which is significant, and they won them
the national championship. So you're going to buy a national
championship and that's what it is anymore in college sports.
Let me ask you though about this transfer number. They
told us fourteen, fifteen, they get sixteen. Are they done
now or do you still anticipate some activity around the spring?

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Well, the spring window, you just don't know what it's
going to bring. But I do think if there are
two one particular needs still to me would be a
bigger defensive line than body, if the right ones out there.
But those will be very expensive to get a player.
But yeah, I think that's one area. And you know,
look running back, we don't know what that's going to
look like. Emma Johnson clearly's your number one, but what

(03:02):
does the number two look like between mackay Butler, Nelson,
but McKay Nelson, Quinton Ives, freshman j Marrion Parker, some
of the other players you have in the program. I
think they're fine with what they have there, but you
never know. But I would say defensive line, a bigger
bodied want it would be the only thing they could
possibly shop for. Look, there's not a lot of money

(03:22):
left or or a lot of spots on this one
hundred and five. They're at currently one hundred and thirty
three players with the seven high school recruits that still
aren't here yet. But they're gonna have one hundred and
twenty six of those players here on campus for spring.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Football, and that means they need to trim twenty one
guys to meet the one oh five roster max for
the start of the season. Okay, spring game. A lot
of Nebraskans are confused about this. Matt Rule says, we
don't want to televise a football game because other people
watch it. Look at a guy, then through back channels,
get to a guy. The guy enters the portal, we
lose them. Well, the portal closes a day before the

(03:58):
spring game. So what's the real reason then, why we
don't have a spring football game?

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Yeah, you know, I think is concerned if the window
was open all the game was going on, would make sense.
But I think the big reasons are number one, you're
paying such a large number of dollars these players. Now,
it's no different in the NFL. Like you know, the
starters in the NFL don't play really in the NFL
preseason games. In the other part of Nebraska is they

(04:25):
don't have that they're gonna they're gonna be some positions
like the offensive line, particularly where they're not gonna have
enough bodies to stage a full scrimmage without having to
play some of your high level guys a lot of play.
So I just think you're going to see this everywhere
now as we move to one oh five, A lot
of teams are only going to maybe have eighty to

(04:46):
ninety available players for the spring. And yes, you could
play a game with that, but I don't think a
lot of coaches are too fond to put their starting
level players through that many repetitions, knowing that you're committed,
in some cases over a million dollars as some of
these players, and you know, if they go down, guess what,
you still have to pay them money. So the game

(05:06):
has changed and it's not you know, the old school people,
it's not what you like, but you have to change
with it. I mean, this is the game.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
We're playing now, got about a minute left. Any idea
what we're talking about. They've talked about some sort of
a fall festival. Is this going to be the revival
of the Battle of the Network Stars where you have
men's and women's teams competing in archery and the shot
put and relays and all that stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
You think about the the movie or Revenge of the
Nerds ogre And yeah, John Goodman and but no, I
think I still think you'll see some sort of practice
or event that's open. It's just not gonna be televised
and it's not gonna be a true game. It's gonna
be more of a fan festival, fun deal. But they'll

(05:52):
do something, there's no doubt they will. It just won't
be what we had been used to sing in years past.
