Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sports Breeve. Now this would be the Husker Buzz edition.
Sean Callahan Live and Lincoln Rosie. Okay, Sean O.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
So, as you analyze Nebraska's offensive game plan, We've heard
a lot about Bryce Underwood, We've heard a lot about
the running game the Michigan will provide. But what kind
of a defensive alignment will Dylan Riyola and company c.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Well, they're going to throw a lot of looks at him,
a lot of blitzes. You know. I think that's one
thing someone hasn't really done great this year is get
after Riola. So you would have to think week Markindale
and this Wolverine defense are going to bring some heat
and try to confuse Nebraska's offensive line. The last two weeks,
Ryla has not been touched. When he is comfortable back there,

(00:44):
he's outstanding. When he has to move his feet and
run around a little bit, he's not as good or
you know, no no quarterback is. So I think they're
going to do what they can to get him uncomfortable
back there in the pocket.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah, it's an issue. He's barely been touched the entire
the last two weeks. He got a little they got
a little physical on him in the Cincinnati game. These
last two weeks, it's almost been like touch football for him.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yeah, since Cincinnati got him a little bit. He had
the fumble obviously on the one sack Week one, but
other than that, you know, the only time he's been
touch is when he's taken off and ran and picked
up some yards on the ground. So he's you know,
he's playing at a high level. There's no doubt. I mean,
all all his numbers ranked right towards the top of

(01:29):
the Big ten, and they should based on the opponents
say they've played the last two weeks and and now
he'll see a defense that look, they lost four top
one hundred NFL draft picks last year on defense. You know,
they had three first rounders, I believe, you know, so
like when you look at the defense that Michigan has,
it's a lot of new faces on defense from a

(01:50):
year ago that was the strength of their team in
terms of NFL firepower. So they're they're rebuilding, just like
Nebraskas when you when you look at Nebraska who lost
on their defense.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Now, speaking of that number fifteen for Michigan is a
co captain and we know this guy Ernest Housman from
Columbus who was in a Scott Frost recruiting class and
actually started a number of games his freshman year before
Frost got fired. Talk about Ernest Housman and what he
can do for them and what this dynamic social and

(02:25):
psychological and athletic dynamic brings to the game.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah, he's a leading tackler of Louis Verenes. And look,
stories like this have become more and more common in
the transfer portal where you play against a former Husker.
I mean last week Houston Christian of all teams, their
kicker was a former Husker. So now with the portal,
you see this more and more. But this one's unique.
You've got a kid from Columbus. I mean, his dad's
a principal of a Columbus elementary school, so they're well

(02:51):
known family, and he's a great kid. And you know,
I think he just wanted a change of scenery. Was
very close to Barrett Rude and Scott Frost and that,
you know, and just wanted wanted something different after the
coaching change went down, and had a ton of opportunities.
I remember when he went on the portal, he could
have pretty much picked where he wanted to go at
that point and chose Michigan and it's gone well for him.

(03:15):
So I'm happy for Ernest because that's what the transfer
portal is meant to be, and I'm sure for him
this is a big moment in his career now to
come back to Nebraska and to get one more chance
of the Huskers.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah, he's delightful guy. He's a very spiritual guy, and
quite candidly, Michigan was attracted to him because God is
a little higher on the depth chart there than it
was in the Nebraska locker room. Okay, the transfer portal
has been settled. It's now one a year in your opinion,
when will it be.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Well, it's January twod through January eleven. That's the ten
day window and that's it. So the one hold back
is if you're a college football playoff team, that's still
during your playoff run. So that window for Nebraska essentially
after the window closes, you have one more week to

(04:04):
get players on campus for the start of classes. So
there is going to be you know, quite a bit
of pressure now to get these kids visiting your campus
for those couple of weeks in January because then you
got to get an enrolled. And you know, the big
ten coaches will prefer the mode. They're the only ones.
I prefer the model that was an April or May

(04:25):
window that allowed players then to come in and join
teams for OTA workouts in June. Everybody else preferred more
of the other model. So I tend to understand. I
go with the others. I think it makes more sense
to get kids here in January, get them through your spring.
But the key now is they can't leave, they can't renegotiate,

(04:47):
they can't try to walk out the door.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
That's positive. Sean thanks our Husker Insider and he's back
tomorrow with the keys to the game. Sean Callahan huskar
