Speaker 1 (00:00):
Finally another game day. We go to sports Breeve, now
the Husker Buzz edition, well our Husker insider Sean Fallahan
live and Lincoln Rosie.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Well, just about the time Matt Rule tends to lose
a few followers, he roars back with an observation that
gets people right back on his bus. Yesterday he said, Hey,
there's no crying in football. Uh, there's no sympathy for you.
Go out there and make a play. In other words, accountability.
And that was very very refreshing.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, yesterday, Coach Rule kind I mean, kind of a
more toned down version of shorter press conference, not a
lot to say, not a lot to really ask after
the bye week, you know, but I think he still
thinks his team has a lot out there. I mean, heck,
you see the projection still in Nebraska is favored in
all but one, maybe two of these remaining a games.
(00:48):
So there's a lot of potential to finish this season
out on the right note. But these gotta these guys
got to do what it takes and and and and
do the details behind the scenes and and bring it
over to Saturday. And they did some good on good
and throughout the buy and they know they've got to
get better stop in the run, and they got to
get better run on the football. It's almost a complete
opposite of a year ago where Nebraska did not allow
(01:10):
a rushing touchdown until the seventh game of the season,
or this year they lead the country, or they're number
two in the country and passing offense, and they're number
one in the country and passing defense. It's quite the
opposite when you kind of look at how this team
has done it compared to say, a year ago.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
And part of that is because teams have found success
running the ball against Nebraska, so they haven't challenged the secondary.
Teams realize you can't just hold the ball back there
get rid of it, and so people are running it
and they're doing it against a secondary that doesn't even
have one of its starters. Malcolm Heartzog. What's his status
for the game this week?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
It doesn't look good at this point for Malcolm Hertzog.
We'll see as things play out, but just the intel
and read I have is that you know, I don't
think you'll see him this week, and you know, overall,
I don't don't know if it is a good situation
that he's battling, and you know, he could take a
red shirt this year, so we'll see. I mean, he's
(02:09):
technically only played in two games, and so he could
come back for the final games of the year and
then maybe a bowl game. But a lot of it
depends on the injury that he has and you know
how it heals.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
I was a little surprised by some of the reaction
on social media yesterday Seano when the depth chart came out,
as if they were expecting wholesale changes on the offensive line.
There is no changing on the offensive line. This is
soo Nebraska. Ask what do they think they're going to
go to the waiver wire and get two new tackles.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Yeah, And I don't really put much into the depth
chart they released. I don't think the football department is
behind the scenes like putting that out. I mean it's
more than media relations department puts that out based on
kind of what the what was happening on the field
the week before. They've never really made the depth chart
in recent years a thing that he can be a
(03:01):
big story other than maybe the opening one of the year.
But generally the depth chart is not something like you know,
back in the Osborne sold stays. You knew on Tuesdays
they might have put a lot of time and you'd
get that that was before the internet though, that was
before social media and other things. But the depth chart now,
they don't really utilize that as something that's going to
make a lot of news head headlines.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
All right, now, let me ask you about Alante Brown.
Ladies and gentlemen, A Lante Brown is still playing college football.
You'll recall he was originally committed to Michigan State and
then when they had a coach change on their staff
and their receivers coach went to defense. He committed to
Nebraska and played in thirty games here, transferred back to
Michigan State, and he's now in his sixth year of football.
(03:45):
Is he an impact player for them?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Yeah, he's just a role player. His name was Cadillac
Brown and the nicknamed him Cadillac. But he had some
things go wrong behind the scenes and went in the
portal and transferred. And you know, I'm glad that he's
on a good place to finish out. I mean, he
was always a great guy to deal with and was
a starter here at one point. But yeah, that's the
portal I think, you know, like Houston Christian's kicker. For example,
(04:11):
when he played Houston, Christian was a former Nebraska backup kicker.
I mean you're gonna get this almost every week where
there's a going to be oh, this guy was at
Nebraska or you know a team you're watching, Oh, yeah,
he was a Husker at one point. I mean that's
the portal era in a nutshell with so much more
moving around that happens.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah. He is their primary kick returner though, and I
think he returned one for a score against Boston College,
which was big in that game because they won that
game in overtime thanks to in part of Lante Brown.
But you watch, he'll have a big game against Nebraska.
It's inevitable. You play here, once you leave, go somewhere else,
come back and look like, you know, the greatest player
(04:48):
in the country that day.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
What do you make Sean of h It's a pretty
wide point spread, and the Raska favorite has moved a
little bit nowtown and a half points.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
It's just a good matchup. Michigan' they their defense, they
struggle against the pass. Well, what's Nebraska number two in
the country at the passy? They they only have six
sacks as a team on the year, their offensive I mean,
their defensive line has not gotten the people. In terms
of pressures, I believe as a team they only have
forty six pressures in four games. Michigan had thirty six
(05:22):
against Nebraska in one game with their players individual pressure plays.
So they're not gonna, you know, at least on paper,
be a team that gets to you very very consistently.
I mean, I do think that matches up well when
Nebraska does.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, good, light it up.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
But maybe we'll have one of those games where we
need more light bulbs on the scoreboard.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Are you predicting Houston Christian thing again?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Oh yeah, oh no, you never know about the leaze
is gonna be.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Yeah, okay, right, you never know about the win on
the hot Dog October Saturday, what it could be doing
in a stadium.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
It'll be like Millard South in Benson. It will be unbelievable,
all right, which is it's just it's just outrageous. What's happening? Okay, Sean,
Thanks our Husker insider Sean Kelly on every morning with
a buzz
