Speaker 1 (00:00):
We go to sports Brief, the Husker Buzz edition with
Sean Callahan our Husker Insider Live and Likenken Rosie.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Seana, I hope you've enjoyed feasting on our dur so
the last couple of weeks because we're about to get
the main ingredient here on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Yeah, Nebraska was able to really kind of maximize the
jim these last three weeks. They got a tough game
to start the season against Cincinnati, who who has looked
very good by the way the last two weeks at
their offense. But then the last two weeks they've they've
been able to pretty much only play their starters probably
four and a half quarters of play, and then they've
given the twos in the three units three and a
(00:35):
half quarters. I mean, when is the last time that's happening.
On Saturday, we saw Nebraska play sixteen offensive lineman ten
or more snaps each. That just does not happen very
often in a game. So this team has gotten their
work in. But yeah, now the real game comes up.
The Huskers about a one and a half point dog,
so essentially it's a pick them game. No. Sharon Moore
(00:58):
bit po guy on the show the former Charlotte head coach,
and then you have Chip Lindsay either offensive coordinator who
used to be Troy's head coach, and those will be
the guys that will run this Wolverine team into Lincoln.
With five star freshman quarterback Bryce.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Underwood, Yeah, he's spectacularly talented. And sometimes we're skeptical about
incoming recruits because they haven't played any football yet. This
guy is the real deal. Physically, he's just remarkable. But
he's not alone. And this is the other thing I
think a huskar fans, you know, they're they're thinking about
(01:33):
watching the best teams in college football, the Georgia's versus
Tennessee's the A and M's Notre Dames. Michigan has that
level personnel.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, it's really going to come down to Nebraska's defensive
front against the Michigan's offensive line. And Michigan's O line
has not been great this year, and we know Nebraska's
defensive front has not been great at times as far
as stopping the run consistently, and that is probably the
biggest match for either side of this game. Michigan does
(02:03):
not have elite wide receiver play. Underwood still is coming
along as a thrower in Nebraska secondary is outstanding and
that's probably the strength of the team or one of
these strengths. So there's a lot of matchups in this
game that jump out immediately when you start his own
in on Saturday. And to me, this is the biggest
game of the Matt Rule era by far. I don't know,
(02:26):
you know, Colorado last year was big obviously, I don't know, though,
I mean just the stakes to get to four to oh.
Nebraska hasn't won four games in a row, guys, in
over three thousand days. I mean it's been pushing nine
ten years since they've won four games in a row
as a program, So it'd be a huge step to
begin a year four to zero.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, this is going to be a real test for
the Nebraska defense. Justice Haynes is an all Big Ten
level running back, and you know what the strategy is,
come in here and run the ball. Make Nebraska put
us in second and long and third and long. And
that's not been necessarily something that has happened this year.
But you gotta again put an asterisk next to Houston,
(03:06):
Christian and Akron. They don't have the offensive lineman to
push Nebraska out of the way. So what we saw
against Cincinnati might be a better indicator of what Nebraska
is going to see against Michigan in terms of stopping
the run.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Well, how much will they decide to run Bryce Underwood?
You know, of his eleven rushing attempts this year, seven
of them are scrambles, which are plays that were called
passes that he decides to run. But he's gotten ninety
six rush yards on seven scrambles and they've only given
him four design run plays in the game this year.
(03:39):
But that could be an X factor for their offense
if Underwood's able to really run like what we saw
Soresby do for Cincinnati. But they don't tend to run
him on just like what how Soresby ran where they
say we're gonna run, but they might in this game
knowing it's going to be harder to throw. You know,
you like see it right, has only given up one
(04:01):
completion in three games for four yards total. I mean,
Nebraska's corner play has been underrated because we're not talking
about them because we haven't had to. They've been They've
completely shut down everybody they've played.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
So far, and part of that is the pass rush
you've gone up against mediocre offensive lines and you're just
not seeing the ball down the field. But I think
you're going to see how good at tacklers the secondary
is this week. I think they're pretty good. But we're
going to find out because they're going to get to
tackle Haynes and they're going to get to tackle Underwood.
You're right, did Sean. I don't see him running them
a lot other than his scrambles because that's dangerous for
(04:34):
his health. They may not have to. They got big backs.
They're going to two back set and just run, run, run,
and try to burn clock and take the team out
of the crowd.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
And they haven't been though that type of Michigan team.
They've they've steered away from the Harball days of the
tight ends and the fullbacks. I mean, that's been the
one if you talk to people close to it, you
know it's not been what we're used to seeing, where
Harball used to just roll out with big old it
ends and fullbacks. They don't really have that kind of roster.
I mean, this is really almost an entirely new coaching
(05:05):
staff and a lot of new faces from when they
won the National championship. When you kind of look at
this Michigan roster.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
He has been an eye on Cincinnati, said, the only
real measuring stick we might have. They've been really good
since our game. They took down Bowling Green decisively. They
beat they beat they beat Northwestern State by basically the
same score that the Minnesota Gophers did. You know, so
we'll keep an eye on these other teams. But Sean,
before we run here is is Beautford. Okay? He was
(05:36):
hurting a little bit Saturday, right, I think?
Speaker 3 (05:39):
So? Yeah, I mean we'll find out they rested Hartstog
in this game too. But yeah, they got to buy
a week after Saturday, so you can get these guys
geared up for this one week and then you have
to all a full week off to kind of rest
before Michigan State and you don't go on the road yet.
So it does set up for some of these guys
that they rested on Saturday as well. Yeah, we'll see
(06:01):
where Buford's ad. But they like what they have in
that secondary. They're you know, Rex gu three and Caleb
Benning and you know, you go down the line, Donovan Jones.
They've got about eight guys that can play back there
right now.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
