Speaker 1 (00:00):
And onward. Now to Sports Brief, the Husker Buzzz edition
with Sean Callahan, Our Big Red Insider Live and Linkenrosie.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
All right, Saturday, let's bring in Seana. You're not fully
arrested after getting a week off, so no excuses for
you this week.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yeah, it's it's always nice to get a bye week.
It's one of those years where you get two just
based on how the Saturdays fall on the calendar between
Labor Day and Thanksgiving. So we'll get another one in November.
But you know, for Nebraska, they got three good days
of practicing during the week. You have to take some
time off, and the coaches went out and did some recruiting.
Matt Rule without watching Trey Taylor, and he was up

(00:36):
in Pierce, South Dakota watching Cooper Twiliger and checked out
a Mott Hudson who's a tight end in Louisiana. But yeah,
back to work. It's a Michigan State team that comes in,
as is tung Gary before he got on. I do
think it's a good matchup for Nebraska's defense. Michigan State
only has four sacks charged, you know, on the year.

(00:56):
As a defense, they're not an elite pass rushing unit,
which obviously bodes well for Delan Ryolan in this offense. Oscars,
are I believe a ten and a half point in
favor as we sit here on Monday, eleven and a
half's gone up a couple points?

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Then yeah, okay, let's visit about running back. I'm deeply
troubled Seanos, you know, and it doesn't take much to
deeply trouble me. What I don't get is we don't
have a backup running back. Does does this mean that
Mikai Nelson, Isaiah Mosey and Quinn and Ives are no
longer capable of playing Big ten football. I just don't
understand how they were raved about in fall camp. And

(01:32):
now there's a question about who the number two is.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, I still think it probably is Mosey or not Mosy.
Excuse me, I'm Nelson, but there was something that held
him back in the game against Houston Christian where Matt
Rurul chose it was the coach's decision not to play him.
He didn't get into anymore than that. Then he played
against Michigan as the true number two. So I do

(01:57):
think that is probably the direction they go number two
back but again, yeah, Emma Johnson lead. I mean before
last week's games are played, he led the Big Ten
until running back carries, so ideally, you know you need
another guy. I mean, it's probably not a good thing
to lead the league in carries because you know the
grind's going to take, especially eight games remaining. And you know,

(02:21):
I wrote this this morning, every game but one on
Saturday it was a one score game in the Big Ten,
So you know that's what you're going to be in
a lot of physical, tough, one score games, and you
need depth that running back position, There's no question.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
And it's a little frustrated, I think to Nebraska fans
to hear a little bit of whining about how well
we didn't have the money to go get Brown Creighton
Prep kid is now starring at Miami. Well, they brought
in fifteen transfers. They spent a lot of money on
transfers and free agents in the offseason, so it was
a priority. You know, they went and got receivers. They
wudn't got some guys on defense. Some of them are
working out, some of them aren't. But this really wasn't

(02:55):
a money issue.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Sean, Well, it could have been. You know, when Daldell
abruptly left for Kentucky, which he's not having a great
year there. I mean, I don't I think they he
would help in nebrask there's no question, but they didn't
want to, you know, the principle of having to pay
dal Dell double what they're paying or whatever it was
going to have to be. They let him go to Kentucky,

(03:17):
and that, you know, left a noticeable hole in that room.
I think everybody recognized that. But yet there there weren't
any other running backs that were essentially no brainers. And
that's the challenge of the portal. Yeah you might need
a player, but doesn't necessarily mean there's one out there available. Well,
Brown was the no brainer. I mean, the men and
he ener of the portal, you know, I was like, yeah,

(03:38):
this is just makes too much sense. He's from Creighton Prep,
he played for a former Husker and Timmy On at
Prep and his teammate with Sam Sledge, and he's a
physical back. Dal Dell was a physical back. But yeah,
Miami drove the price up, and but I still think
something could have been worked out early because there was
a relationship I know with his collective or with the

(03:59):
collective and his agent. I mean they you know, they're
they're there. It could have gotten done, but yeah, the
price was going to be higher, probably than nebrask Warner
to pay. And keep in mind the early portal stuff
happened before the GM Pat Stewart was here. Pat Stewart
didn't get here until really March, so you've kind of
had a change in front office management as far as

(04:22):
you know that that stuff goes. Because there is more
of a budget you have to follow with your rev
share and then obviously you can try to utilize nil
in different ways now with the new rules.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. That's why they
called it a husker info strong man. That's the kind
of insightful information people are going to wow their friends with.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Before you run Sean just quickly. I thought Quentin Ives
looked pretty good. He got significant carry's what whichever game
it was, he looked pretty good. He's running fourth team.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
I don't ever put a lot of stock in the
depth chart. I don't even know football, but yeah, i've
I mean that Houston Christian game he ran, what was there?
He was? I mean, I think I think they could
have put running back that was got right.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Have gotten a score in that game, all right, I
just you know, okay, he's a big, strong guy. Sean
Callahan every morning with Us with a Buzz in the
afternoon Buzz just after five with Emery here on news
