Speaker 1 (00:00):
On a Wednesday morning. Onward to sports Breath Now, the
Husker Buzz edition with Sean Callahan Live and Lincoln Rosie.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
All Right, Seawana, let's talk about running the football. As
I said last half hour, the most joyful moment for
me last season was the first time my eyes gazed
upon the run the damn ball t shirt. So we
got Emma Johnson in there's number one, the first clear
number one and Matt rules two years here go.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, yeah. With Emma Johnson right now, you just wonder
can he take that load as the number one guy
and carry it, you know, over fifteen times? And you know,
very few big ten running backs can even go twenty
carries a game. Iaran blake Korum really was not a
full twenty every week when he was the league's leading rusher.
So what is that workload for Himmett? What does that

(00:47):
look like with Dana Holgerson's offense, especially as a receiver
in the passing game. But you know, the most importantly,
what's number two look like? Because you're going to have
to play two? And Quinn ives on the opening day
looked like he up on something that when we are
there watching, So is he going to be out for
a little bit here, you know, with that deal, and

(01:07):
is that open the door for Isaiah Mosey or even
Makai Nelson, Those two guys I think would be the
other names to watch here. It's going to be a
long three weeks here as they're in camp, and then
they'll probably turn the page at that point into some
game preparations.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Talk about Amera Abdullah's impact on Emma Johnson. For my money,
Amerabdullah is the second best running back we've had here
in the last thirty five years, behind LP. This guy
did stuff on the field that very few Nebraska running
backs has ever done. He's back associated with a program.
It sort of became a mentor to Amma Johnson, and
he gave him a goal of the beating his sixteen

(01:44):
hundred and nine rushing yards from twenty thirteen. If you're
only carrying it fifteen times a game, that's going to
be hard to do.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah, it's just different now. But you know, as em
it grows in this offense, you hope he can take
more carries than that in certain games. But yeah, that's
the thing about him. It we've never really seen him
take it on over a long period of time, like
Amir had to do, like Rex had to do, and
and and those are that's when Nebraska have good teams.

(02:13):
I mean, you look at the success Nebraska has had
in the Big Ten that this will be their fifteenth year.
You know, all their teams that were successful for the
most part, had a good running back or two that
that could really carry you home on the road or
close out games. And and you know, I think a
mir was a great example of that when they needed

(02:36):
a play, even when they were about ready to lose
a game when FCS school, he makes the play to
win the game. You know, he just had that ability.
And you know, you hope him as he grows can
can do that, you know, get more touches and and
make big plays down the stretch. But he's got long
ways to go before I put him in that category

(02:57):
even an NFL draftable. At this point, he got to
really prove prove it.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, people talk about Ameribila. The best play of his
career here came in that Northwestern game on the fourth
down and ten when he carried that guy three yards
to get the first down, which was the play right
before the Kellogg to Western camp. Throw Little things like
that separate. That was a good one for that. Oh
my gosh.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Okay, So the bigger question to Husker fans has been,
and Seana, do you handicap this? Because you know these guys,
you're around them all the time. Can Nebraska can it's
this offense hold a five point lead in the fourth
quarter of a big ten game and if you don't
run the ball, the answer is maybe not likely, not
thirty seconds, Sean.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah, yeah, it's up in the air. You just don't
know at this point. But I do think the offensive
line is going to be a real strength. And let's
not forget how important they're going to play in this role.
With their ability to block up front, the veterans, the
leadership they have on this offensive line, and you know,
Dylan ryll Is ability to keep defenses on their heels too.

(04:04):
I think it's going to be another real advantage that
can help the running backs.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
All right, big guy, we'll talk tomorrow. Shawn Gally on
