Speaker 1 (00:00):
Onto Sports Brief Now the Oscar Buzz edition with our
Big Red Insider, Sean Callahan live and Lincoln Rosie. Okay,
thanks Sadler Chano. Here we got man ruled in front
of the media yesterday talking about coaches coming and going
and what he wants and who he doesn't want. Your
impressions of his rope A dope on Dylan Ryola, let's
start with that.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, it's just kind of you know, wait and see.
It's not healthy obviously, can't return to action until you know,
later in the spring, So it's kind of the status
quo as he goes through this. But as we know,
with the portal and things, things can change very quickly
with one phone call, and you know, you just don't know.

(00:41):
But how marketable would Dylan Ryola be to other teams
a year ago he was getting calls, I mean, Georgia, Miami, Auburn,
a lot of a lot of programs. You know, we're
reaching out and I don't know it will be that
same type of buzz because of the injury and the
way things finished for him, So you just don't know.

(01:02):
And we know what his pay is right now as well. The
highest paid players arguably in college football returning next year,
So there are a lot of factors in play. I
think the thing that we need to watch now is
t latf How will TJ play in this bowl game?
What will look like? Will we be healthy? I mean,
it was disappointing against Iowa. It was hurt. We didn't
really get to see a healthy TJ. What is the

(01:22):
indoor game on turf in Las Vegas? I mean, he
should look, hopefully his best and we'll get a better
read on TJ against a very good opponent on December thirty. First,
do you.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Honestly believe that by the start of the season next
year both Jay Latif and Dila Royola will be on
the same roster.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
It's again very It's hard to pay two guys, especially
when one of them is one of the highest paid,
So it's difficult. Mean a lot of it is what
teams would reach out to TJ. What are the opportunities are?
Are you going to get a starting job and a
power four that's very hard to get, like those are
premium spots and kind of what that all looks like

(02:01):
for him if he's not going to be the guy here.
But as of right now, it's status quo with Dylan.
I mean he is reabbing and planning to be a Husker,
and I know the situation with brother or his uncle
makes you think he's going to be gone next But
there's a lot of things in place. He's the highest
paid all of them. I mean, he's gonna make him.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
He's got a deal. He signed a contract with the
eighteen ninety group and the Peede family to get paid
and it's a deal and walking away from that won't
be easy legally. Okay, Terry Braden has gone. I'm not
sure why he was hired in the first place. He
had no experience with a three three five, He'd only
coached college football a couple of years. Maybe because he
could help us get Dawson Merrit to commit, the super

(02:44):
recruit out of Kansas City. But after one year he's
gone and incomes TBD. Talk to us about Elijah Robinson. Now,
this is the highly regarded defensive coach. He was at Syracuse.
They were good on defense at Syracuse. He coached with
mad Rule at Temple, but he was signed and hired
by Lane Kiffin at LSU. Is that so or is

(03:06):
he still a free agent?

Speaker 2 (03:08):
No, he's still a free agent, and he's kind of
the prized girl in the bar. Right now, you've got
Penn State, Nebraska, LSU, Syracuse is trying to keep him.
Texas A and m is back involved. He coached there
at Jimbo Fisher. He's a you know Matt Royle. You
think about the guys that worked for him, He had,
Joey mcgonaguire, Elijah Robinson. You go down the line of

(03:28):
Terry Smith, the Penn State in interim head coach. You
know the Fran Brown said goes. Those are all his
former coaches. He's had a pretty good network of guys
that worked for him at previous stops. Elijah's one of those,
and he's regarded as an excellent recruiter. And Nebraska is
very much in that fight and it will be interesting
to see where it goes because LSU thought they had him.

(03:51):
But you know, last night, Shaye Dixon, who he worked
with down in Baton Rouge, reported like this things far
from over and teams like Nebraska have made this very interesting.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
And he's defensive coordinator at Syracuse. I don't know if
titles matter to him, but you're going to have to
pay defensive coordinator money for a defensive line coach because
Rob Urrich is the defensive coordinator and Phil Snow is
still on the staff. So yeah, what do you think?

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Two things. I mean, you're paying a tight ends coach
like an offensive coordinator for now Marcus Saderfield, So you're
going to free up probably eight hundred thousand, seven hundred
thousand off that because I do think Saderfield will stay
in just a reduced standard tight ends coach salary. And
then you have the four hundred thousand Terry Braden was getting,
so you easily could pay Robinson over a million. And

(04:39):
I think that's where Matt Rules heads at right now,
and it's like, hey, we've got this money and we're
going to reallocate it to bring in one of the
top defensive line coaches in the country.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
So the title may not matter. Do Elijah Robinson? And
the other issue is the question before they signed the
line is Okay, Elijah, give me a list of all
the guys you're bringing with you.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Well, yeah, well that's Syracuse, that's fran Brown's guys, and
Rob Orrich is one to watch. I think San Diego State,
you know, you know that they have a couple of
players and I'm sure that Nebraska would love to have
that that could end up here because San Diego State
can't pay like a big ten program in terms of
the rev share deal. So yeah, that's something to watch,

(05:21):
you know on some of these newer hires, will some
people follow them? Even a Jeep Wade? Is there any
lineman or recruits that he could bring into the fold
for Nebraska.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
It's all about the money. Any other assistant coaches that
may get the guillotine. We weren't sure if that would
have been the last one in your view. Are they
done chopping off heads or do we still have a
couple more that could roll down the steps?

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah? They you know, they're bringing in some other people
to help too. Like they got another guy that's an
assistant offensive line coach from South Carolina that's joining the staff.
Ronnie Teasley was the South Carolina line coach this year
and he's he was fired, but he's gonna work here,
obviously being probably still paid by South Carolina. He's another

(06:08):
excellent recruiter. But again, I'm interested about Marcus Sadderfield, how
they rework that and and and what kind of deal
he rolls into. But you just never know. I mean,
as of right now, these are the only the only

Speaker 1 (06:20):
