Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sex forty eight News Radio eleven to ten KOAB, we
go to Sports Brief now the Oscar Buzz edition. Well,
Sean Callahan live and like a Rosie Okay, Seana.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yesterday the news conference was there and you know, Matt Ruhle,
his team won a game and he's a largely positive guy,
so there wasn't a lot to complain about. Did you
detect anything that he might be concerned about after the
first week.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Well, I think the running back situation, he really wants
to make sure they get more than one guy going.
Hima Johnson took sixty nine snaps in the games on Thursday,
and just from my research, that's the most snaps of
running backs played in a game at Nebraska since twenty
eighteen to Bino Zigba looged eighty. So ideally you'd like

(00:43):
to have a little bit more depth going there with
Makai Nelson, whoever would be in that, Isaiah Mosey, maybe
Quinn Ives. So I think the next two weeks you'll
see the emphasis on making sure they get at least
two more backs going at a higher level because you
can't really expect Emmett to be available every week for

(01:04):
sixty nine snaps and be standing at the end of
the year. It's just in the Big Ten is it's
hard to do. So that was one thing kill that
left tackle three man rotation. He did say, yeah, we've
never done that before, but we wanted to give every
guy a chance, and now we're gonna have to make
a decision and kind of settle in on what we
want to do at left tackle. So that will be

(01:25):
something to watch as it plays out the next two weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Now, just to clarify, he didn't carry the ball sixty
nine times. He was just out there for sixty nine
of the snaps, in which case he was blocking. In
some cases he was running a little wheel route once
in a while, but it's not like he was carrying
the ball sixty nine times.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Well, twenty five carries would be his career high. Twenty
one was the high before that, and yeah, you don't.
You rarely see backs in Big Ten games go over
twenty carries. It just doesn't happen unless you're the elite
of the elite. You know. They tried that with Anthony
Grant back to back weeks against Indiana and Rutgers in
twenty twenty two, and he was never the same after that,

(02:05):
his legs kind of round of gas, and so yeah,
it's just different. I mean it's not the nineties anymore.
The teams are there's more parody, there's more depth, the
players are more NFL built across this league, and it's
more like Sunday, you know, just in the NFL. You
can't do it in the Big Tenant's very similar to
the SEC's obviously very similar as far as the depth

(02:25):
you need at running back. You saw Miami. I mean
they played two or three guys pretty equally against Notre
Dame Miller and I Jamar Brown being one of them,
a local Omaha guy. So I think that will be
something Matt Rule and Dana Holgerson will get ironed out.
Here is just making sure they get at least another
option kind of developed to playing games.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
And there is the political component too. You got to
keep some guys happy. You got to get them out there,
get them a couple of carries so they feel like,
you know, I'm I'm a part of this team and
I have a chance to raise my NIL profile. Okay,
let's visit for a second bout. Left tackle Elijah Pritcheh'd
started more snaps Or was on the field for more
snaps than any other left tackle, and yet he's still

(03:05):
listed third. The message is pretty clear, Elijah, you know
you got some people to win over here. What's your take?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Yeah, I don't put much take in that depth chart
because the media relations department pretty much puts that out.
And there's three oars on the depth chart are the
two oars with the guy, so it's still co one
with three guys. It's dangerous to assume who's listed first
on an OAR is always going to be the first guy.
Like Zane Flores was listed Oklahoma State's first guy on

(03:36):
their or quarterback situation. He didn't start now. He is
starting now because the guy got hurt last week. But
Pritchett played the most snaps. He was great at the
highest on Pro Football Focus despite the false star penalty
and the SACKI game up, So I still would not
be surprised at all. It ends up being pretched out
right here sooner rather than later. He played better at

(04:00):
times and the other guys. I would put him ahead
of Corkran no matter what. If I was projecting right now,
and I would say it's obviously more between him and
Getula but I still lean towards him being the guy
once things settle in and he can prove it over
a period of time.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
What does the injury to Bonner mean to the wide
receiver room.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Well, you take out that physical Swiss army knife element
that he brings. He's a former fullback, tight end receiver
and Dana Holgerson loved what he brought in those elements,
and now you Quinn Clark probably plays more. Maybe Keeland Smith.
There's the young freshman Jeremiah Jones, who they're probably leaning

(04:42):
towards red shirting, didn't play any snaps in the game,
but probably more Quinn Clark if I had to project.
But that is a blow because he could do a
lot of things that tight ends and fullbacks could do
as blockers along with play wide receiver. So he had
a lot of value in this offense and a highly
respected on the team. Second major injury suffered since high school.

(05:03):
You know, he broke his feamur bone in a car
accident and was told he may never walk again at
that point, and he was able to overcome that and
have a great senior year and then get to where
he's at in Nebraska. So you hope that Jeni Aron
is able to come out of this one now all
right

Speaker 1 (05:20):
More to come, obviously, as we a cruise on toward
the Game two, the home opener against Jacmin Shawn Callahan
