Speaker 1 (00:00):
Seana yesterday. The discussion wasn't about the bold, it was
about nil and the portal. And you asked Dana Holgerson directly,
and it was a good question, and that is why
didn't it work out here? And he demurred. But because
you have the knowledge of ten men, what do you
know about why it didn't work out here? Anything new?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, you know, it comes down to a few things.
But I think just development and Dylan Ryla's style of play.
I mean, I don't know how much he developed himself
over the last two year, you know, and the coaching
responsibility or whatever reason. But his body physically in terms
of being you know, at the weight he probably he
probably played a little heavier than he should have played
(00:39):
this year in terms of being able to move and run.
The old line issues. You know, there were just some
things that just didn't work for whatever reason. And when
your quarterback is not mobile, it requires so many other
things around you to be perfect, including the old line play,
and as we know, the Michigan and the Minnesota games
really exposed those issues. So it was a lot of things.
(01:03):
And you know, I don't do him. I think came
off as a leader at times of the public. But
you know what, was he the kind of leader all
around to take this program to the next step. I
think that's highly debata why. I don't know if we
saw him ever just you know take over. You know,
he had a couple of games this year, we did that.
But the leadership side of things that you need to
(01:24):
have to be an elite player, and you know, just
sometimes it feel like it was clicking.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah, there's saying that sort of popped up on social media,
and that is if you don't like Dylan, don't worry
about it. He likes himself enough for the rest of us.
There was a little bit of that and it might
have been a turn off to the other guys, but
the offensive lineman loved him, and they didn't love him
enough in the Michigan State game to have him get
dumped for forty five yards and losses on one drive.
(01:50):
But top to bottom, this leadership from a young guy
is tricky. To have a true freshman or even a
true sophomore serve as a team happen, I think is very,
very risky, and they made him that and maybe there
was added pressure that he didn't even know he felt.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Yeah, and you're right when you elevate him like he
was even as a freshman. I mean, you know, the
standing ovations as a senior in high school at PBA
and all the things. You know, it's a lot for
a young man to take on and handle all those things.
But it felt like he could do it when he
first got here. He could be that person. But yeah,
(02:30):
the injury changed a lot too. Let's be honest, Like
if Dylan Riley beat USC, doesn't get hurt, let's just
say and maybe eat EUCLA. And they played better against
Penn State and Iola. I don't know if they win,
but they played better. Who knows what the conversation is
right now, like where are they at eight and four
and Dylan's playing in the bowl game? I don't know.
(02:52):
And maybe he still would have been unhappy about where
he was at as a player development wise, and knows
that next year, the schedule and everything they're going to face,
he was not going to get to where he wanted
to be in terms of you know, development and the
team in the record and then his shot at the NFL.
And he still might have left for all we know.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
So is you you pointed this out on the air
a month or so ago, maybe not even that long ago.
Power for football starting quarterback jobs are rare. They're very
hard to get. They are very very few. He's not
going to drop down a level in conference. He's going
to have to go to a power for a conference school.
(03:34):
So as you assemble a list of schools that might
a need him be pay for him, see where he
wanted to go. That's a pretty short list.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah, and then you take it up to the next
level power to the big ten in the SEC, like
what you know what type of places? Yeah, you probably
go to a Kentucky But I don't think that's what
he's going for. So it is going to be interesting
a to see where he lands in the power for
and then how much you know what, what will the
reported contract be, because there's no no way it will
(04:06):
be anywhere near three and a half. And some of
that number was driven up by the pre rev share era.
You know, now that you're in this rev share era,
it would be much harder to do that because of
the salary cap essentially, and then the restrictions on money
on top of the cap that you have to do
with legit nil. I just would have a hard time
(04:29):
believing he'll be able to get that kind of deal
at his next school.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
It sounds a lot like this looks to me a
lot like the NICO. I'm gonna leave a scenario with
Tennessee and UCLA. Last year he turned down big money
to stay at Tennessee because he thought the grass was
greener somewhere else. He took less money to go to
a program where he got the crap kicked out of
him for twelve ball games. I see Wisconsin, I see
Louisville as a possibility. I don't think Oregon. He's not
(04:54):
a fit for them. And we don't know if Dante
Moore is gonna leave. In your view, just a quick snapshot,
what are the best prospects for Dalan in either the
Power too or a power for conference school.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
I mean I'd throw Arizona State in that discussion with
what they're opening. I mean that's but yeah, the Texas Tech, Indiana, Oregon,
Miami kind of deal. I just don't see that happening.
And you know, so Soresby is, you know, rumored to
go to one of those big ones, and so is
is Levitt. I mean, those those two guys are going
(05:25):
to land probably at places like Texas Tech, Miami, Oregon, Indiana.
Indiana is gonna get one of those guys. I mean,
so the top dogs are going to get, you know,
the the quarterbacks that are and they have proven development
that have taken these quarterbacks to high levels. That's the difference.
And Dylan is going to try he's trying to find
something like that, in my opinion, and I don't know
(05:48):
if those places would have a spot for him right now.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah, I'll see what happens at Ole miss if those
quarterbacks follow Lane Kiff, and he might be a fit
down there, But we don't know what kind of supporting Katy. Now,
all right, Chadel, Thanks, will talk to you tomorrow.
