Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's onward now the Sports Brave and the Husker Buzz
(00:03):
edition Sean Callahan Live and Lincoln Rosie.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Were you surprised they didn't hand out eleven black shirts?
And can you promise us that if they only had
it out ten black shirts, we'll still have eleven guys
on the field.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Defensively, the old gene hack been seen in Hoosiers and
got four players.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
My team's on the court, Yeah, my team's on the floor, okay.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Coach Noah, Yeah, I don't know the I mean because
there's a couple of defensive lineman you wonder like Riley
Van Poppol probably being one of the main ones, and
Keona Davis. But Matt Rule said to his team, you know,
this will only be eleven. He was pretty adamant about
we're not handing out bonus black shirts. But so we'll
(00:43):
find out some more contacts today why it was just ten. Heck,
maybe one of the guys is missing from the picture.
So I don't want to like read too much into it,
but there are a couple of guys on that defensive
line that were somewhat of a surprise that that didn't
get one. But here we are. It's Tuesday, talking football,
we're talking black shirts. I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I personally love this because that puts a value on
the dog one thing. Let's be honest about it. We
were in a participation ribbon mentality with those things for
a long time just to keep people from being unhappy
or pouting in the corner. They got one. I personally
think if they only hand out seven, that means that
(01:24):
only seven deserve them. Is that the mentality down there?
What's the reason in your mind?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah? I actually think now that you can't enter the
portal at any time you want and other things like that,
you can get away with this easier now. I think,
you know, think about a couple of years ago, you
could enter the portal any time you want it. It
was walking in. So you don't have to worry about
as much of that stuff anymore. With guys being upset
about something small like this, you can kind of move forward.
(01:49):
But we'll hear from Rule today kind of his thought
process on these ten players and kind of while they're
why they are the guys because you know, the way
the depth chart is set up there theoretically could have
been three more guys that received them. As far as
black shares are two more for sure, but he stopped
at ten and it's obviously a veteran group. A lot
(02:12):
of single digits are in that group. My count, five
of the ten are single digit jersey guys.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Right now, do you do you think that there is
an emerging leader on this team, somebody who's capable of
sort of waking up the echoes and being able to
go through the locker room and take practice jerseys away
from guys who don't play well on Saturday like we
used to have around here.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
You know, it's you're talking about defenders for everything. I
think Deshaun Singleton has been around a long time and
he's played a lot of football. I think he's gonna
be one of those guys I like cr right. I
think he has emerged. Marky Spieff has always been in
that type of role. I mean, those are three guys
immediately that jump out to me. I mean, he got
(03:00):
newer faces where you just don't really know what the
Sam McCullough, Marquise Watson, Trent are going to bring. Cam
Winhart's a leader though. I mean he's a well respected guy.
He was the captain of IMG Academy when he played
there for that team, a highly respected player and arguably
one of the best high school teams in the country.
So they've got that. But yeah, they they've got to emerge,
(03:20):
They got to build confidence. That's why I do like
this schedule for a defense because you're essentially gonna be
playing in front of home level type crowds all the
way until mid late October, and that that helps defense
kind of build up momentum. You're not going out on
the road in the hostile road environments. You're gonna be
at home with the crowd behind you or at Arrowhead Stadium,
(03:42):
and I do think that's going to help this defense
hopefully develop an identity here over the first two months.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
I don't know, guys, if Marshall, if a transfer, a
brand new guy, can take that role down. He seems
to have that edge to it. Har On, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yeah, Dan Jackson coached him at Omaha native Dan Jackson,
who's now the South Dakota State head coach, and he
just raved about it. He said he was outstanding player
at Idaho. It was the only corner that was named
All Conference in the Big Sky Conference. And he's a dude.
He can return kick some punts too, But to come
in and kind of seamlessly win the job, it tells
you how talented he is. Because they've got some good
(04:19):
young dvs in the program and he made pretty easy
work to win that job.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Okay, well, I want everybody to remember that it was
Rosie who said this will be the number one impact
transfer in this football person. We will remember, Yeah, I
got tape and I'm going to keep playing it time
and time till.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Until you until it's not true. Then you will stop playing.
That'd be true. You watch Mark that I like him.
