Speaker 1 (00:00):
And this is episode number five as we keep up
with Rollie Jenkins and his brothers of ABC Home and
Commercial as they bike.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Cross country actually across a couple of countries.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
If you think about it, and Rolling is with us,
this will be uh, you know, I think.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Our fifth time talking. Where are you guys right now?

Speaker 1 (00:19):
The last time we talked was like two weeks ago
and you were still in Canada.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
So where are we at now?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
We are now in Oregon. We are just man. Organ
is just beautiful. I mean, to tour through Oregon on
a bicycle, it's just incredible. You just get a different feel,
a different look, and you get an opportunity to kind
of connect with the public out there as well.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
You know, it's there are so many beautiful parts of
the country that we never get to see, and I
gotta say Oregon is one of those places because everyone
I've known that's ever lived in Oregon, and it's more
people than you might realize. There's nothing but good things
to say about it. Portland is the area of Oregon

(01:07):
that gets the most publicity, clearly for a number of
different reasons. But if you're an outdoors type, I mean,
it doesn't get much better than Oregon, does it not?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
No, it's just incredible. And the people. I mean, I'll
tell you yesterday we were able to share our story
probably three different times. You know, one person we sat there,
we told them why we're doing this ride and what
we're seeing and what we're doing, and now he would
I watched him as we were leaving him. He started
going online and making a donation to Brothersbike dot Org

(01:39):
as we walked away. So yeah, it's the opportunity to
share our story why we're doing this crazy ride has
just been amazing. And I love the idea that we're getting,
the exposure we're getting, and we're able to get people
aware of SUDC, Sudden expect to death and children and

(02:01):
you know that they cannot only be aware of it,
but they can also make a donation to help support
it and Mission Lazarus and then the wonderful things that
they're doing in Haiti and then Hondura. So yeah, I
love that is why we're doing this ride.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
You know, in all the time that I've talked to you,
I've never brought this up, but I'm going to bring
it up right now. How much Ballpark? How much have
you guys raced so far with this ride this year.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Well, I think I'm not exactly sure because we've got
two different charities that were the money's coming into and
I'll say you around two hundred we should be approaching that,
and then the other thing two hundred thousand. And then
the other thing that's really neat is we are finishing
this ride on September sixth. We're riding into College Station.

(02:47):
So we got an RV. I don't know if you've
gone to the website yet, but if you can go
to it and you can see the RV we're living
in and the fact that it's just really signed so
well about the ride and why we're doing doing it,
and it gets a conversation going quick. But we're going
to park right outside Kyle Field and College Station, and

(03:07):
we'll be going on to the field during the game
make an announcement so that you know that's really where
a big push it's going to be. And then we're
also going to auction off or wrapple off the RV
at the end of the right, so that'll be another
spot we'll be doing the fundraising. So it's we're going
to get to the numbers we want to get to

(03:28):
we're going to make an impact on both charities this year.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
You know, you're you're embarrassing me. And here's why, because
you know, we've talked before about me raising money to
run the half marathons that I run, and you're talking
about two hundred thousand dollars. I feel like my twelve
hundred and forty dollars that I've raised for Saint Jude
is like, you know, a pitoly amount compared to that.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
No, no, no, no, that's amazing, that's great.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
It's hard, you know, talk to me about the standpoint
of raising money. It's not easy, especially these days, to
ask not only to ask people, but to get people
to write a check without that credit card and help
you guys out for a good cause.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
It's really gotten more difficult over the last five years.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Well even more so with everything that's happening Curvil this year.
I mean, we're trying to be delicate with it, we're
not trying to get out in front of it at all.
But the fact is this, I mean, both of these
missions are important and that's why we're doing the ride.
So you know, asking for money for me or for ABC,
that's a lot more difficult But when we have such

(04:32):
an important cause as children in Haiti, as worrying about
or finding out a way that to stop children from
dying for no reason that anybody can see, then it's easy.
I mean, I don't have a problem saying hey, we
need your help and research could be done that could
stop this, and it's being done, and they've made some
great progress, but there's more progress to be made. And

(04:54):
then all the things that are going on in Haiti,
which are just crazy. It is such termal well, and
the children and the families that are living in the
mountains and all in the countryside, they don't need to
live like this, I mean, and not to live, but
we just need to support them so they can get
self sustained and do the things that they're supposed to
do to enjoy a fruitful life.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
How are you guys holding up physically, because, as we've
talked before, it's not like we're you know, it's not
like we're in our twenties or thirties anymore. I mean
we're a little older than that these days. So how
is the physical wear and tear of this?

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Yeah, I mean I'm sixty four. I turned sixty five
in October I'm the youngest guy in the group. My
older brother is sixty six. He's ancient. But you know,
in the other tours in that same range sixty five
sixty six, and we're doing well. I mean, you know,
it's a day to day activity. At the end of
the day, we are pretty beat up and tired, but

(05:51):
you know, we still we push, we push on and
we really do realize and we've been blessed on this ride.
The fact is, no serious injuries occurred. I mean a
few little bumps and bruises and cuts, but overall we're
doing really well for a bunch of whole guys on
a bicycle. So yeah, no, no, we're being strong. You know.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
It just occurred to.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Me that you guys are doing this right around the
time that the Tour de France was taking place.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
And I'm not a fan of.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
The Tour de France by any stretch, but I've watched
the documentary series for three seasons.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Now on Netflix, so I think I got.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
A little bit of an understanding of what they go through,
and certainly, you guys, the terrain is nothing like what
these guys are going through in Europe, right or am
I wrong? Is it some rough terrain out there that
we're not necessarily seeing.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
It's pretty similar the two of them. I mean they're
on back roads, they're on mountain climbing roads. I mean,
they're all over their countryside, and we're doing the same thing. Fortunately,
they down the roads we're riding, you know, next to highways,
and eighteen wheelers are zipping by us. So in some ways,
I think we've got a little bit more of a

(07:00):
challenge to avoid the oncoming or traffic that's going on
out there. But you know, I do, I do feel
God's hand on this, and so if it weren't for that,
then I probably wouldn't want to get out there and
do this. But I feel like He's blessing this ride
where we are being safe, we are taking the proper precautions.

(07:21):
But you know, once you get tired and you've been
climbing up a mountain, and some of these mountains are,
oh my gosh, nothing like it is in Houston. My
training that I did there and what we're actually doing
are just two different worlds because you take these three
five mile climbs and they just go on forever and
you're just going, God, get to the top, please just

(07:42):
zip me up there, but you would. But yeah, they're similar.
They're similar in a lot of factors because we're dealing
with the environment and we're dealing with the mountains and
the climbs. But we get we get the traffic. They
get at least protected from me ongoing traffic while they're
in the race.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Just one for you. Tell everybody how they can help
the cause and donate.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Yes, And I just got to say just it is
a great spot to be able to look at what
we're doing, kind of watch this as we journal, and
more important that you could make a donation to it.
So no matter how big or small. There are two
missions that are on there, Moss Pratt Foundation and that's
for the SUDC for triinding why children are dying and

(08:26):
getting that research done and supporting families. And then it's
also a mission Lazarus that supports Haiti and Honduras. So
go to Brothersbike dot org. That's my brother and I
Brothersbike dot org and we would greatly appreciate any donation
that you could make.
