Texas Revenues Begin To Plateau After Two Decades of Big Growth

After a population boom and pandemic transfer payments inflated revenue.
We're regressing to the mean.

We've seen a lot of those government transfer payments drop offs,
for example, less from sales taxes and related sources like that.

Economist Thank Lewis says people have also tightened their budgets
and fixing it depends on a few factors.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
If these programs are running, surplus is based upon the
current rate of tax intake. Part of the slowdown, they
need to be prepared to balance a budget. If it
does involve cutting certain programs, the state may need to
look at resselfing as budgets.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
It's the first non growth year since two thousand and two.
