Speaker 1 (00:00):
More variety from the two thousands, the nineties, and today
it's Star one on one three, It's Marcus right before
six o'clock. What's happening? We made it. It's Friday, Breezer Taylor.
You doing all right?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yes, good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
We went out to lunch yesterday. We did slightly off
the rails. Not gonna lie.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
It was so much fun.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Was that fun?

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Okay? I told her, God, you know, Sandy and I
used to hang out. Corey and I used to hang out.
I told you, I said, you don't have to hang
out with me after hours. You really don't. Don't find
it too? She did. She was like, no, we're doing
this sat. She couldn't get out of here fast enough. Anyway,
Shout out to Polly and everybody over at local tap
here over by the ballpark. That's where we hung out
and had some really good what do we have? I

(00:36):
had chilian and you had wings. We've had cheese curds there.
They're delicious.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yes, very good, very good.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Anyway, Happy Friday. Once again. My child scared me a
little bit this morning. We have a running gag in
our house. She has a little plastic spider that looks
really really real, oh no, and so we will trade
off on planting it in different places to try to
scare the other person. She got me so good this

(01:01):
morning with her placement. She put it on the dining
table and a bunch of my papers that I had
to clear off because the cleaning lady's coming. Yeah, this
is one of these concepts you have to clean for
the cleaning people, of course. And so I grabbed this
big stack of papers and I pick it up and
this spider comes scurrying out, and I was just like, oh,

(01:21):
oh my god. I'm not afraid of spiders, but I
just didn't need that first, like four point thirty in
the morning, right, I'll wake you up. So I wrote
her a little note. I said, you really got me
watch your back, right, So now it's my turn. I
gotta go do it now.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Okay, here we go.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
We'll see what happens. Hey, keep the radio on. Lots
going on this morning. We have more tickets for Ed
Sheeran a couple chances to win those that starts right
after seven thirty, and then we have more tickets for
a Safeway holiday ice rink that's going to be at
eight o five with the trivia game we're going to
have you join us for VIP access for the premiere
the news Hugh Jackman premiere song song Blue that's later

(02:00):
on this morning. I only want to talk about that.
That's too much stuff. Just have the radio on it
like right after seven point thirty and we'll get sy'all
lay stuff. Kind of a goofy topic. But what is
your finishing move when somebody wrongs you while you're driving
eight hundred eight hundred and one oh one three to
call in be part of the show. Let us know,
don't get violent on me. Let's keep it fun. What
do you do? We got some hilarious talkbacks on this

(02:21):
already because we were talking about it earlier this morning.
We're going to play those in one second. Producer Taylor
has joined me in the studio. We were talking. We
have a very similar one. We both will roll up
look at you just to make sure you look as
dumb as I think you will.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
You have to I need to know.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I think everybody does that, and then I've shared mine,
which is I will then give you the disdain of
a thousand suns and just shake my head. I don't
like that look that gets people every single time the
talkbacks have been delicious. I mean, like you, everybody listening
knew the assignment. Check this out.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Good morning, Marcus and Taylor. It's Sabrina, a girl who
had two babies because her mother told her she couldn't
get pregnant. Anyway, this is about traffic. I have that
used to have that road rage and back in the
day when I was young and dumb and chase people.
But now if you do something to me, I might
try to tailgate you, I might try to zoom and

(03:11):
get in front of you, but I got to see
who you are, and if you're old, then I.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Feel really bad.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Okay, Yeah, I feel that road rage is taking years
off my life.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Oh, Streen has given me life this morning. Yeah, dude,
if it's a senior citizen, you get a pass. Yeah,
I'll be honest.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I think that's the only pass.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
I wish I could call your kids and maybe tell
them to take your keys. But other than that, because
I went through with my dad obviously. All right, let's
take one more.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Good morning, Marcus and producer Taylor. My finishing move, or
when somebody cuts me off, is a combo move. I
like to lay on the horn quite a bit to
let them know my displeasure with them. But then also
when we get up next to each other at the light,
I step on the gas of my super fast electric
car and I like to get way far in front

(03:55):
of them. Makes me feel better. Oh yeah, Annie from Yakima,
have a great day.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Yakima Andie's listening on the iHeart Radio app. I love
the fact that she does a commo move like she's
playing Mario Carter some in the dust. That's my favorite. Anyway,
what is your finishing move? I shared it earlier my
old partner Sandy. She'd flip you off, but just under
the door so you couldn't see it, but it made
her feel better. Let us know. Keep it fun, don't
get violence. You could use the iHeart Radio app to

(04:22):
leave a talkback. We've got sports moms and dads getting
ready for the weekend of nothing but sports. I want
to revisit this. This was a DM I got from
a lady who is overwhelmed. It seems like she's a
single mom of four and they all have activities and
she's feeling guilty that she can't be everywhere all the time.
And a lot of people listening felt the same way.
I got so many dms, so many talkbacks, a lot

(04:43):
of great advice which I'll share in a minute, But
check this out. Elaine writes She's in Redwood City. She says,
I have four kids, three different schools. Their combined extracurricular
schedules are so chaotic. I'm constantly racing from one place
to another, always feeling like I'm letting someone down. We've
got banned, We've got soccer, I've got science club meetings
after school, tutoring, my own work schedule. There's no way

(05:04):
to physically be at everything, but every mist event makes
me feel like I'm failing as a parent. Doesn't feel
like there are enough hours in a day to be
the kind of present involved mom that I want to be. Lately,
I've been lying in bed wondering if my kids will
look back and remember me as the mom who wasn't there,
even though I'm doing everything I can. How do parents
figure this out? What's enough when it feels impossible to

(05:26):
keep up? This was a lot Now, Producer Tailor's joining
me on the mic Good Morning, mostly because you are
like the back end of this in it if this
was a case study because you did softball at low
Scattos High. Your parents both worked a lot, yes, so
are you scarred for life? Did they show up for everything?
What's the end game?

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I mean, they didn't show up for everything because they
weren't able to. But that's okay. You know, I'm very understanding.
They still showed up in ways that they could, right,
They would text before games, they would try to show
up for at least one or two games. If they could,
they would call. You know, those types of supportive messages
are really really important.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
And as a teenager, that was enough for you.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
That was enough for me, of course.

Speaker 5 (06:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
I mean just to know that they were thinking about
me and that they wanted to be there or tried
to make the effort was enough.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Okay. See, I like this because as a budding sports
dad and my child is eleven, you went through it.
I'm not going to be able to be at everything,
but now I feel like you're going to help me
sleep at night alone.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
I also want to say, what's up to Tiffany on
the Peninsula? She says, Hi, Marcus, I couldn't stop thinking
about that overwhelmed mom of four. Being a single mom myself,
I have a couple of suggestions. Have a monthly meeting
with all four kids together and ask which event is
most important to them for that month. Then prioritize that event,
have another parent video for you, and then sit down
watch the highlights with each child. She said. One thing

(06:48):
I know is that we are always harder on ourselves
than necessary, which leads to more burnout. Be kind to yourself.
Communicate honestly with your kids and how you're feeling. The
reality is is that as a mom, you are feeling
that way because of how much you love them, and
with communication, your kids will definitely understand this. Also that advice.
I mean, we could just close up this topic. I mean, Tiffany,

(07:09):
let's give it up. Yeah, for real?

Speaker 6 (07:12):
So good.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
That's so great to make your children to feel seen
and you know supported.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
I think that's the one thing is parents that we forget.
You can actually sit down and have conversations and they
will probably understand and be like, it's cool, mom, right,
don't even worry about it. Just the fact that they
know you love them, right, I think.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
So.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
I want to thank everybody for all of the talkbacks
and the dms and just a lot of really great
advice and good luck this weekend to all our sports
parents listening.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
This is what I'm talking about, is what's.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
Trending on Start, what's happening in entertainment news, the biggest
stories of the day, and everything people are talking about
today in the Bay.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Given you all the big headline hitters that you need
to know before you roll into work today or into
the weekend. Number One, the West Contra Costa County School
District teachers strike enters day two, so the teachers will
remain on strike for a second straight day after contract
talks have broken down on the table health care benefits,
support for special ed, among other issues. Roughly fourteen hundred

(08:13):
educators walked out yesterday. The union wants a five percent raise,
the district is offering three. I hate this because teachers
in California are grossly underpaid. We know this. My mom
was a public school teacher for like thirty years. At
the same time, districts are struggling because attendance is down.
The biggest loss on this is for the kids. So

(08:34):
let's figure this out. For sure. I definitely want to
want to figure this out. So saying shout outs to
everybody that's headed the front line today and I hope
we can work this out for sure. Don't look now,
but it's free Fridays, y'all. It's off out. Come on,
I had three, I had you produce. Retailer and studio
Berkeley Humane is our shelter partner this week. We try

(08:56):
to clear a shelter out every single week. We have
five standout pets and you can check out videos. We
have Team Bray, who is a kitten, so we'll start
with that. We have Duchess, we have cat Man, we
have Dez, and we have Kenzie and the cutest video imaginable.
If you just need to lower your blood pressure a
little bit, go watch it. It's on the Star one

(09:16):
on one three FM Instagram page and you can get
all the adoption info right there. Let's see, Travis and
Taylor have set a wedding date. Are we excited about that?

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Oh yeah, come on baby, I'm just.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Gonna plant this song into your head for the rest
of the day. You're welcome. So they have locked in
on Saturday, June thirteenth, Swifties. This will be next at
the the Luxe Ocean House. It was explained to me,
and I knew this already. Thirteen is obviously Taylor's favorite number.
I just can't imagine having that conversation, babe. It's gotta

(09:49):
be on the thirteenth for the fans, for the fans,
I guess. So it's gonna be at the Ocean House,
which is in Rhode Island. They had also consider the
BlackBerry Farm, which is in Tennessee. It's where Kelly Clarkson
got married. If I'm not mistaken, oh okay, or a
private Caribbean island. These are my choices when I'm balling

(10:10):
as hard as they are right, it's obviously going to
be a list of celebrity guests. They even apparently bought
out another couple's reservation to get the date because it's
got to be thirteen.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Of course they did.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
They broke somebody off so that they would move their date.
If I got that phone call, I'd be like, how
much you got right?

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Are you paying for my wedding?

Speaker 1 (10:31):
How bad you wanted? Oh my god?

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Can you read?

Speaker 1 (10:33):
I bet you she did? I bet you she did.
I would die. I would absolutely die anyway. June thirteenth,
twenty twenty six, Rhode Island. See you there. Travis and
Kelsey getting met, Travis and Taylor getting married. There is
a FIFA watch party at Thrive City today. If you're
gonna be in SF now, you do have to preregister
for a ticket. It may be sold out by the

(10:54):
time I even talk about this. It could catch a
live broadcast of the FIFA World Cup Final draw at
Chase Center today. The first one hundred and fifty people
out there are gonna get a free World Cup theme
bucket hat. It is first come, first served, but I
believe you have to get online and register for a ticket.
I'll have more information next hour, and there are going
to be some solid Bay Area celebrities there. I'll tell

(11:17):
you all about that at seven fifty. We do have
a pull up right now on the Star one oz
one three FM Instagram page. Go for producer Taylor.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yes we do. It is National Bartender Day. Shout out
to all of our bartenders out there. Okay, the question
is is what is the best bartender skill? Is it
a perfect poor do you like, a fun personality, a
craft cocktail or you just impressed when.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
They remember your name. Hey man, if you go there enough,
they're gonna remember your name, all right. So that's up
there right now, and it's a little early to be
thinking about happy I'm not gonna lie, but let's get
we'll get primed for later. Fivefuck somewhere right go to
the Star one Ozer one three fm Instagram page and
you can participate. It's up in the stories right now.
It's Marcus, good morning. We're about to get into second

(11:59):
date updates. So let me just real quick. If you've
never heard it, if you're new to the show, this
is our dating segment. And if you go on a
date and you get ghosted and it just stings and
you want to know why, we will call your date
for you with you on the phone listening so you
can hear it from them. Sometimes we get second dates
out of it, because sometimes it's a misunderstanding. So let's
see what happens. Let's bring Connor on. Good morning, Connor,

(12:19):
good morning. How you guys doing good man? How are you?

Speaker 5 (12:23):
I'm pretty I'm great, you know, aside from this.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
All thanks considered, you're doing all right?

Speaker 5 (12:28):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I'm excited that you're having
me on and then hopefully we'll get to the bottom
of this.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
Yeah, dude, let's let's talk about Valerie. So how did
you guys meet run me through the date? How did
she look when she showed up. How were you dressed up?

Speaker 5 (12:42):
Hot? Amazing?

Speaker 1 (12:43):
You were her?

Speaker 5 (12:44):
Sorry I got excited, no her, Hell, come on please?

Speaker 1 (12:47):
How'd you guys meet? Well?

Speaker 5 (12:48):
So yeah, I mean we met on the apps, you know,
to be totally honest, I don't remember which one. You know,
there's so many and you don't even think about it. Swipe,
swipe whatever. Sure she was like better than the pictures.
She was super sharp, and she just like you don't
meet those people with that like confidence that's like it's
not overstated, but it's just like this, I don't know,

(13:09):
it's like this calm confidence or something that she was
a catch all right. So on on the date itself,
you know, we were like, you know, really connecting about restaurants,
we loved terrible roommates we used to have, you know,
we both love true crime documentaries. And it was just
like one of those dates where like the conversation never

(13:30):
stopped until I said goodbye at the end of the night.
And you know, there was no kiss or anything like that.
But you know, I'm a gentleman, so like I didn't
want to overstep, but everything was natural and she seemed
like a really good fit and so I kind of
stopped swiping for a bit. I was wondering, you know,
I thought this might.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Be compliment by the way I stopped swiping. Yeah right,
she was. I stopped swiping for a bit anyway, Oh.

Speaker 5 (13:59):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, like she hasn't responded.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
So now you know, yeah, you gotta start swiping again.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
But like that's the thing. I thought, like this could
be a real potential thing. Why I jump back into
the pool. I want to. I want to see if
we can make something happen.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
All right, well, let's call her. Let's try to figure
this out. Because I would love to get you a
second date, as I mentioned at the beginning, but i'd
love to get you some answers too. So why don't
you hang out for a song and then we'll give
Valerie a call? Casey? What's up?

Speaker 5 (14:25):
Cool?

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Thank you, Connor. Now you've had more time to think
about this date. Nothing weird happened.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
I mean, maybe I mentioned a restaurant that she didn't like,
but right, I don't know, I feel like it was
really good.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Okay, let's give her a shout, go ahead and go
ahead and go back on you. Here we go. Okay, Hello, Hi,
I'm looking for Valerie. Please, yes, high Valerie. It's Marcus
from Star one on one three. Good morning, Oh my god?

(14:59):
What's Oh do you listen to the show. I'm assuming I.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Love your show.

Speaker 7 (15:06):
I'm a big fan. But yeah, wow, who I'm sorry
to what do I owe this call?

Speaker 5 (15:12):
Yes? I don't want to talk about it.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Second date update anything? Oh?

Speaker 7 (15:17):
Yes, I don't want to talk about it though. Is
he on the line?

Speaker 1 (15:21):
I mean yeah? Does that make it? Does that make
it weird?

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (15:26):
Fine, this is crazy.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Consider yourself the star of the show.

Speaker 7 (15:31):
I'm just beyond I can't. We need to help Connor.
Connor needs all right, Connor needs some guys.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
I want to stop pretending like you're not there. And so, hey, Connor,
did you go? I did?

Speaker 5 (15:47):
He did not deserve a reply.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Oh boy, what are you talking?

Speaker 7 (15:53):
You don't show forty minutes late. You don't show up
forty minutes late to a first date and then come
in like nonchalant.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
That was a bad first impression.

Speaker 7 (16:02):
Let me tell you never do that to another girl.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
Okay, that was like okay, traffic, you know, crazy traffic.

Speaker 7 (16:09):
You're handsome. I think you're handsome, you have potential, but
you cannot smack your food like you're it's it's disgusting,
like that was the biggest turn off. You need to
close your mouth.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Okay, So ho about I'm trying to keep up.

Speaker 7 (16:25):
Oh, it's multiple things. I keep going if we're.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Doing okay, we're doing this.

Speaker 5 (16:30):
Okay. I've been called a passionate eater. You know it's
it's uh, my friends love it, they say. They think
it's like enthusiastic and it makes the food even more
appetizing to them when they see how much I love
my food. Okay, and you didn't say about it during
the day.

Speaker 7 (16:47):
That is a statement, by the way, I was very bizarre,
Like you eat like no one taught you how to eat,
Like you need to like have a little bit of etiquette.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
But what about I'm still hung up on forty minutes
late to a first day a slurp.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
No, you live in the city, you know, traffic is nuts.
It's like there's like a grace period, you know, and
and it's like unspoken and it's just yeah, I didn't
realize it was forty minutes. I thought it was close
to thirty. But still, like I didn't want to text
because I didn't want to be rude in case you
were still getting ready and you were late too. You know,
I thought I was being respectful, but like just not texting.

(17:23):
I showed up and you were there, and I was like,
oh you you must have just gotten here too.

Speaker 7 (17:28):
I haven't even mentioned the fact that he didn't have
his wallet. He like hit his pockets like other jacket
and I was like, at that point, I was like,
why the hell am I here?

Speaker 1 (17:41):
So wait, did you pay for everything? Valerie?

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (17:43):
I had to. It was so awkward.

Speaker 5 (17:46):
Are you going to tell you tell so hard? Are
you going to tell them how? I venmoed you immediately
once I got home, and I even left you a
funny note that wasn't funny?

Speaker 7 (17:56):
Kind of a tool?

Speaker 5 (17:57):
I'm going to a tool?

Speaker 7 (17:58):
Yeah you are kind of a tool.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
Yeah, by to the tool emoji and everything like, come on,
like that's the funny thing.

Speaker 7 (18:04):
I didn't say you weren't funny. But you don't have
it together, buddy. You need to figure you sit out.
You're so good looking, Connor, but you are a man child.
You need to grow up or you're never going to
find someone. You're like a man baby.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
You already said I'm good looking and you said that
I'm funny. So why don't we go out again? No,
go have some drinks. You can be late this time.
And I won't say to.

Speaker 7 (18:32):
Raise a grown ass man. I am not trying to raise.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
We just go out.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
We'll have a good time. I can't.

Speaker 7 (18:40):
It's like almost a yes, but it's a no.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Connor, Okay, all right, all right, here's what I'm gonna do. Valerie.
You guys want to put you just put you on
hold for a second to Marinane, think about it. Maybe
there's an outside chance you have each other's number.

Speaker 5 (18:56):
I feel like she's coming back around.

Speaker 7 (18:58):
Oh my god, it's gonna take a long Connor. Jewelry
is all I have to say.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
I can't you fine, Jewelry, I'm good for it. I
just I want to go out again, like you know.
Hearing your voice, I'll do whatever I mean, Valerie.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
They do need to be trained sometimes. I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 7 (19:18):
So I mean he is. He is kind of cute.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
How about a second date?

Speaker 5 (19:22):
No? Yes, fine, I will make it up too. It's
gonna be amazing.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Did this just happen? Hold on, hang on, I got
to ring the cow bell of destiny. I'm so excited.
Hang on, we have a second date.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
Oh you guys are the best.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Wow, Connor, you must be charming anyway, all right, you too,
You're adorable. Hang on the line for me.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Okay, all right, thank you, thank you, Valie. I can't
wait to see you.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Hang on you love birds. My god, I can't. This
has made my whole week. Second date update out right
after seven o'clock weekdays, so it'll be back on Monday.
We'll do it again at nine o'clock. All right, about
nine oh five or so. And of course you got
the podcast. You can listen to all the episodes. It's
on the iHeartRadio Appset yourself a preset. All right, it's
time for good news.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Sometimes all you need is what a good thought to
make it a great day.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
So let's do this.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
It's good news on Star one one three.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
So good news we give you twice in morning seven forty.
Shout out to everybody headed to drop off right now.
Appreciate you having a song in the carpool. Hey, I
do love a good good Samaritan story. And this is
a story about a guy named Philip in Kansas City who,
after working all day, shovels driveways for people in need, strangers,

(20:45):
not even his neighbors. He'll drive out. If you need help,
you hit him up on social media and he will
come out and shovel your driveway after snowstorms. And this
is not something we typically struggle with here in the Bay.
Although it's been so cold, record breaking cold, by the way,
I read that a one hundred and three year record

(21:07):
got broken yesterday. It's been freezing. But we don't deal
with snow. And if you've ever shoveled snow, you know
how crazy it can be. I shoveled snow for my
mom in Washington State one time and was like, oh
my god. There are people that do this every day
at any rate. Philip works all day and then he
goes out and will shovel your snow for you, specifically

(21:27):
for people that can't care for themselves. For example, there's
a lady named Gail who has a wheelchair and she
was worried she's gonna be stuck at home because her
driveway was just covered. Well, Philip came out and took
care of it, and Gale said, he's like an angel.
He flies in, does good, and then flies away and
he hopes that this will inspire other neighbors to do things.

(21:48):
I mean, I'm sure there is a Bay Area, California
version of this of just helping your neighbors that are
in need the most right way. That's my good news.
Seven forty eight forty weekday mornings here on Star one
to one three, It's time to play. The Bay's favorite
trivia game is called what you Know About That?
