Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Maria's Mutts and Stuff and with me today.
I'm so excited when people return and they return in
studio with me. I have Adrian and Ursula from Nylo
Bone and Jane in the corner. Poorn Girl. We put
her in the corner last time, so she's in the corner.
But it's pretty cool because the last time you guys
were here, it was May thirteenth, that's when we did

(00:22):
Maria's Mutts and Stuff and best Friends was here same
as today. So it's the seventieth anniversary of nylobone and
back in May we were talking about things that were
happening over the summer. So fill us in what's happened
in the past few months.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah, a lot has happened in the last few months.
And thank you again for having us back again.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Lopreciate it.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
So Nilbone is celebrating our seventieth birthday this year. Next
week is our birthday, November four, So we've been around
a long time and Nylbone we partner with shelters and
through our Nilebone Cares program, so we work with a
variety of shelters and organizations. So to celebrate our seventieth birthday.
This year, we are partnering with best Friends Animal Society

(01:06):
and we're running our Chees for a Good campaign, which
is very exciting. So for every Nylophone that's purchased, whether
it's a chew toy or a treat, consumers can't upload
their receipt to nilophone cares dot com. For every receipt
that's uploaded, we're donating. We're matching and donating a chew
toy through best Friends Animal Society. They have over fifty

(01:27):
five hundred shelters within their network across the country.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
It's pretty amazing. It's a lot. Yeah, So they're.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Doing great things and we're partnering with them to celebrate
our seventieth birthday. And we had them here today in
studio with three adorable piees, Piper, Paula and Sandy.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
And two of them were related, right, they were from
the same They were tempting. So for those who follow
Q or me on Facebook and Instagram, you can see
the puppies. Yes, they were very cute, Yes, and still
available for adoption. They still find homes. Yeah, they'll find
homes well because they were so cute. They were so cute. Now,
I mean it doesn't like a puppy. You know, right,

(02:07):
they were just so cute too. Oh my goodness, I
know they were adorable. They were adorable. So okay, So
November fourth, that's the big anniversary. Let's talk again and
keep going back to the summer. You did something well.
First of all, for those who are not familiar with
Nilo bone, what's wrong with you? But if you didn't

(02:27):
listen to us the last time? Again, what's wrong with you?
But Nylophone is local. It's not only USA made, but
from New Jersey. In New Jersey, let's talk about that.
So how did it all begin? For those who aren't familiar.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
So, nylobone is most known for their nylon chew toys,
which are primarily made in USA, but we also make
a variety of chew treats, edible shoe treats with our
Nubs brand, our Healthy Edibles brand, and a Nutrient Dead brand.
All of our edible chew treats are made right in
New Jersey as well. So we've been around on first
seventy years and our two toys, like I said, the

(03:03):
Nylon durable power chew toys is what we're really tried
and true and known for. But We have a variety
of two toys in our portfolio, from softer materials for
puppies because they've got those puppy teeth and they teeth
just like shaties. They use their little teeth and their
teeth and have all that teething pain. So we've got
that softer puppy chew for that period and then they

(03:23):
graduate up into the nylon power chew.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
But we've got even in between.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
For strong chewers, we have softer materials, rubber materials, So
a wide variety of two toys for every sized dog
and every true strength.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Yeah, and I mean I said this last time, and
I'm not saying it because you're a sponsor, but I've
always been such a big fan of Nylo Bone from
when I first had my first dog in like you know,
in the early nineties, and then over the years, anytime
a friend rescues a dog, gets a puppy, or you know,
young adult, I will always give Nylo Bone. And that's

(03:57):
even before I knew you.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Love.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
I love hearing you brought in and then I know,
and I completely forgot because I'm like, oh wait, and
we're shooting. Thanks Liam, who's shooting and last time I
had a nyhilabone that I told you I found on
top of my refrigerator, and it was it was still
in the package. It was still new. I never opened it,
or did I open I don't remember it was opened,
but it was still the original package. And I was

(04:20):
trying to find the date and it was celebrating I
think fifty years. Maybe it was fifty years and we
figured out it was twenty years ago. I don't know
why I didn't open it or why I was on
top of my fridge, but it was like, see, I'm
the real deal. But no, it's a great product. And
I mean, I've always been a big fan of products
that are made in the US, just because sometimes you know,

(04:40):
all the stuff that happened with food and treats and
toys and China way back when, and I'm just I've
always been like, oh, it's made in America, and the
fact that it's made in New Jersey so here. Yeah.
And on top of yeah, it's true, it is in
our own backyard. And on top of the fact that
you know, not only are you as a pet owner

(05:01):
buying a good, well made product, a good product, but
also the fact that you guys give back, and that
makes even I don't know, I always think it's really important,
like where your money's going. So like you guys give back.
So why wouldn't somebody buy a Nihil bone for their
dog or for a gift, and then especially this year
that it's getting donated. Yes, so, and we've heard from

(05:23):
shelters directly.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
I mean how nilobone chew toys do play a part
in the dogs that are there. It helps them calm down,
It relieves anxiety. So they're chewing relieving some of that
stress and anxiety while they're on the shelters, and then
they're more prone to getting adopted because they're kind of
like they calm down, and then they're more likely to
stay in there forever homes because they learn appropriate chewing

(05:46):
habits correct, which is really important.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Correct. And I was going to say, probably for people
who have a dog, say or you know a puppy
and don't realize that you know, oh well, why did
it chew my couch? You know? Bad dog? No, bad owner. Yeah,
give it a strong Nyla bone so it chews that
instead of your couch or a wall. So you probably

(06:09):
most likely have had pets stay in their homes because
of Nylo bones.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah, I mean they say destructive chewing. There's facts out there.
Destructive chewing is one of the leading reasons that dogs
are returned to shelf.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
It's true.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
So having them chew appropriately so they're not chewing on
your remote controls.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Start off right, starts true as a puppy.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Make sure that they're learning it, and then just keep
going because we've got all those strengths that can cover
that throughout there.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah if yeah, you know, I mean I always think
like there are no I don't think there are no
bad dogs. It's always bad owners. You know when people
say like, oh my dog chewed this or you know,
made a hole in this, well, you're not exercising it.
You didn't give it anylabone. A good chew like dog
is being a dog.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah, Richmond, time is so important. They have to be
get all of that energy out right, yeah, playing, They
need to be chewing, and they need all of that engagement.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Sure yeah, yeah, yeah, So nylon is the real deal.
And we're getting into the holiday season too, so it's perfect.
You know, if you give gifts to your family and
friends who have pets. Yeah, Nylo bone is the answer.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yes, and ours for Good campaign is running through December
thirty first, so lots of time to still enter the program.
It's it's not only a give back through the shelters,
but there's also a chance to win. So we're doing
weekly prizes which are one hundred dollars gift cards, so
you have a chance to win that, and then there's
one grand prize at the end of the campaign.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Let's talk about Yes, that's a lot lucky winner exactly.
Who can't use that? Of course? Yeah, for sure, it's true.
So with the big birthday that's coming, is there anything
specific that's gonna happen that hasn't happened so far this year?
Is celebrating or it's.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Just been I can take you through a few of
the things that play to me. We were here again
with Best Friends Animal Society. Jane and I were down
in Ventonville, Arkansas recently at their super adoption event where
all the adoption fees were waived. Was a sponsor at
that adoption event. It was a huge success, they said.
On Saturday alone, I think over two thousand people walked through. Wow,

(08:15):
and for the whole weekend they adopted over two hundred
dogs and cats.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Wow, that's very eating. Congratulations, Yeah, thank you. Yeah, they
two hundred and thirty three. Thanks Jane. Thanks Jane. You
are in the corner and we have to put she's
got the steps she does. Yeah, forty seven percent get returned. Yeah,
it's a huge step. I didn't realize it with that,

(08:40):
that's almost half. That's not good. Yeah, that's terrible.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
That's why it's so important. It is important, Yeah, that
we're donating, you know. And then obviously all of our offerings.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah, we've got some special you know, birthday toys that
have out there, you know, with their signature nile bone orange.
We have a doughnut that's orange cool. So we definitely
you know, keeping that that nyl bone signature throughout. So yeah,
it's got some good offerings out there too, So that's exciting.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Ye. And we'll be launching some new innovation in the
next few months as well that we're really excited about.
And then there's a few other activations that we did recently.
In September, we collaborated with the.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Dodo yea Love It's always like like that to get
you away. Yeah, I know, always makes me cry, but
they were so happy. They really do they are. Yeah,
they're so good. So talk I'm starting to interrupt to
talk about y.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Wensored a freedom therapy session where there was a dog
and we partnered again with Best Friends Animal Society, and
there was a dog that was part of that program
where it's like they, I think it's a producer from
the sh show that goes and takes a dog out
of the shelter for like a day out.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Okay, So she took the dog.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
And like a shopping trip and the dog got to
pick his toys and treats and and the dog was
really sweet getting adopted to Yeah the end of that
all right.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
It was like a week or two after got adopted. Wow,
it's good again, thanks to you, and that's made it happen.
So it's been a really good ownership.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
And then we also sponsored a retired military working dog reunification.
We've done about three of those now, right, Jane, was
this the fourth one? Okay, she's got all the stats.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
I know, she's the numbers lady.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Working with American Humane Society, which is another really great partnership.
We've worked with them over the years reuniting military with
their military working dogs so that the dogs can retire
with their handlers.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah, that's excellent. Yeah that's another feel good Yeah, really
feel good for sure. That's good. Well, that's a lot,
It is a lot.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
We had another exciting advertising, just because we were talking
about being from New Jersey, had an advertising of a
beach play beach plane.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Oh that was. It was very exciting. It was Labor
Day weekend, it was.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
It was and we had an app so we could
watch like where it was really so the anticipation, you know,
between the teams were texting each other, did you see
it is by you yet? You know? And all this
so you could see where everything was and the excitement.
My kids and I and my husband were all on
the beach. It was like look there it is there,
it is running down the beach.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
It was. It was really great. It was great to see.
So yeah, so that was that was a lot of fun.
And also you probably could see the reaction to the
people on the beach.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Yeah, for sure, looking up and then they see us
yelling and it's like what's that. Oh yeah, you know,
like noticing that it's it's nylophone.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Yeah. Yeah. And I've advertising seventy years of chew happiness.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
I think my daughter was like, well, you're not seventy.
I was like, no, honey, it's not me, it's Nylophone.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
That's cute. That was very cute. Yeah, well that's exciting.
I mean it's been you know, it's been an exciting
year for a Nylo bhone. So I know you probably
can't say what it is specifically, but you said we
have some new innovations use that word. Yes, there's some
new two toy launches coming up soon. Can you give
a little hint or just like Jane, can she just

(12:21):
you don't be specific? I mean, just like this really
hating occavation and two toys. So there's two new launches
coming out to new launch, so something new like never
before done or maybe just not improved because nyl bone
doesn't need improvement, but meaning a little bit different than
something you're already had exactly, I'm not going to fortunately

(12:42):
tell me am I any warmer, little any warmer? And
when will those be? Our newest launch will be next month?
So oh oh November or just right thinking like wait December,
Oh no it's not November, Yes, yes, November.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
It's our birthday, your birthday of course, a big, big
new launch coming from nilebone're excited about.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
And that will probably take you then till the end
of the year. Yes, and then another one in the
spring too.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Yes, in the spring, something new coming as well.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
So the seventieth celebration. Yeah, sure, that's good. Okay, okay,
so you said the spring, but that's also something you
can't talk about, not just yet, okay, okay, all right,
I have to have us back, of course, you are
always well, and honestly, I would even have you back
without puppies, because you know, I love to see puppies,

(13:31):
but I love to see it. Yeah, yeah, it's true.
It's fun.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
We do have some new enrichment toys that are out
now on the market too, that treat toys that you
can use with our edible to treats, so like a
Nubs treat toy that you can use with Nubs.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Treats as well.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
So it's you know, keeps the dogs engaged longer and
keeps the treats lasting longer.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
So that's another exciting that is that just launched too.
It is so excited. Yeah, it's great. I mean in
seventy years again, that's a good law time. So the
product has to be good, yes, right, because crapping products
don't last right exactly, So you guys would have been
around for like seven months if it wasn't any good. No, seriously,

(14:11):
So the fact that seventy years, think about all the
things you know, none of us are seventy, thank god,
but meaning think of all the things that we know
in our life and our lives that have been around
for you know, twenty five yearslah blah blah, but seventy years.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
That's pretty cool, it is, yep, yeah, yeah, And I
think you know, the durability and the quality is what
the Nilebone brand is really known for. But every Schee
toy that's designed is really designed with purpose. So we've
got like Ursula was talking about the doughnut, we've got
all kinds of fun new shapes in the Power Chew line,
like the lobster and the broccoli, which are fun.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
The broccoli we had that last time. I was I
love that broccoli can not just be the shape of something.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
It's like it's easy for the dog to hold textures
to keep them chewing, right. There's definitely coctile, you know,
feel to it. So they're really going to draw them
in and get them chewing.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Yeah, there's there's a thoughtfulness that's put behind the designs
that definitely, you know, it's all geared towards making sure
that they're they're chewing and that sure chewing there and
not on your you know, doorframe and on your couch
and whatever. It really does attract them to be doing it, sure.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
And how it's shaped so the dogs they can hold.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
It and they can get in there.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
And yeah, because probably it's all stuff that people don't
think about, like they think, oh, it's a toy, right,
you know, it's a dog toy.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
But there's a design team really does a lot of
thought and a lot of creativity that's sure about.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
How big is that team? So a lot of people
it's a I.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Mean, it's a decent size in a creative right in
house marketing team and yeah, yeah, all right here in
New Jersey, we love that.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
So many people listening because you know, the QOT four
point three listeners are in New Jersey too, So I
think it's wonderful because you're from you know, it's it's
American made and it's also very much local. Yeah, so
that's what's really cool. So for listeners who want, they
can go to nylobone dot com, but they can also
go to nylobone cares now.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Dotars dot com is the where you can upload the
receipt and when you have your proof of purchase to
enter the Choose for Good campaign. Yes, y cares dot com.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Cares dot com, Yes, and that's where they can upload
their receipt and then they'll be entered to win. You
said the one hundred prize, right or the thirty thousand dollars. Yeah,
that's pretty cool. Yeah, that's very cool. Yeah, and it
also helps donate to the to the shelters.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Absolutely as everybody that does that, then we'll be continuing
to donate as we always do.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
That's amazing, it's amazing. Well, what can I say, but
thank you, thank you, thank you, No, I appreciate you anytime.
Thank you for being here and for coming back and
you know doing all the good that you do, because
you definitely are keeping dogs in their homes and you're
definitely getting many, many many dogs adopted, which is pretty incredible,

(17:00):
so you should really feel good about that. I know
you both, you know, the three of you are very
modest and humble. You know, but it's true. You're all
part of it. It takes a village, you know. Thank you. Yes,
I think it's wonderful. Well, thank you. Will you come
back again? Of course yes, yes, okay, she's so happy.

(17:21):
I loved it.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Well.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Thank you Adrian, and thank you Ursula, and thank you Jane.
Thank you, thank you Jane, Thank you Liam. So don't forget.
It's nylobhone cares dot com and you can also go
to nylbone dot com and give them as holiday gifts
stocking stuffers. It was a great anylophone is a great
stocking stuff or two? Absolutely absolutely ya

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
