Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's Maria's MutS and Stuff.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
What a great idea. On iHeartRadio, Welcome to Maria's Mutts
and Stuff. And with me is Beth Evans who has
a book which is an adorable little book called Jake
the Country Cat. So Hi Beth, thanks for taking some
time to chat today.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Hi Marie, and thank you for having me. It's an honor.
I've been listening to you for a while with Q
one four.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
I love it well. Thank you so much because you
did reach out to me. You told me about your book.
So what made you decide to write Jake the Country Cat.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Well, Jake the Country Cat came about because of a
really silly dream that I had one night. My husband
and myself were going to had pickets to go see
Blake Shelton, Okay, and we had front row seats. And
at the last minute, this is the dream, my husband
decided that he didn't want to go. Okay, So I hear,
(00:58):
I have these two tickets front road to Blake Shelton.
Who am I going to take? I took my cat
with me, okay, and he sat on the chair next
to me. And when Blake started playing the Cat, my
cat jumped off on stage and started prancing around and
then dancing to the music. So Blake just let him
stay on stage.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Wow, this is a very like elaborate dream.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, it was just such a silly dream. Huh. And
when I woke up, I'm like, wow, that was just
out of out of left field.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
And my family, who's been after me for some time
to write a book, I said, Oh, let me see
if I can write this down and play with it
and turn it into something. And that's how Jake the
Country Cat was born.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
I see. And also because without giving the whole story away,
because there is a country artist in the book, and
as a result of your Blake Shelton dream. Is that right?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:50):
That's it?
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah, So it says in your bio that you do
you have three cats, and one of your cats is Jake.
So was it that cat that was in your Yes,
it was.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yes, Okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
And basically the whole point of your book is to
push adopt, don't shop exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
All three of my boys are all adoption cats. I've
had prior cats prior to these three that also are adoption.
There's just way too many animals in these shelters that
need love.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Absolutely, it's just something that people don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
And and they're just as as any cat you can
get from a breeder or a dog that you get
from a breeder. Absolutely, and I feel that they love
you more because you've taken them into your life when
you didn't have to.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
You know. It's very yeah, yeah, it's very true. People
have always said that when you rescue an animal, the
animal knows, and I truly believe that absolutely. Yeah. And
also you know, and adoption and rescue, it's like my
one of my big pet peeves because I always feel
and I'm sure you've heard this too, is that there's
this law that people think, oh, if a dog or
(03:02):
a cat is in a shelter, it's damaged. When it's
not damaged at all. It just happened to have bad
luck that it's there. Exactly, yeah, exactly. So I love
that your book definitely promotes the fact for adopt, don't shop,
and you know, and I love also the fact that
Jake in the book is a black cat, because of course,
(03:22):
like black dogs, is black dog black cats syndrome, which
I think a lot of people also so was that
and that was your plan? Right is Jake yes, absolutely. Okay,
is Jake your your cat Jake also a black cat?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yes, I have two black cats actually, Oh okay, So
I would love to like change the stigma that black
cats are bad luck because they're not right.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
No, no, no, absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
My cat Jake. Prior to me having Jake, I had
a cat eighteen years old when he passed away, and
he too was a black cat.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Oh wow, good for you and eighteen that's amazing. Yeah,
you're a good cat parent. That's very very cool. No,
that's great. And for those who are listening, and I
know that people who are listening right now, they're pretty aware,
but they're every once in a while there's somebody and
they'll say, well, what is that black cat black dog syndrome?
And it's that in shelters usually black dogs black cats
(04:14):
are the last adopted and the first euthanized. And people
don't believe it, but it is true. It is a fact. Yeah,
it's a fact. And I know in the sense with
cats you have all the superstition about a black cat.
And with black dogs, they're always the mean dogs in movies,
they're always the Rottweiler or the Doberman, you know, and
(04:36):
it's like it's a black dog. Get over it. Yeah, yeah,
so well it color, It's just a color, exactly exactly,
so well. It's an adorable little book. And I know
you just did this recently. Are their plans for number two?
Speaker 1 (04:52):
I have so many ideas in my head. I would
like to follow the story of Jake. I have been
giant since my book came out out in April. I
have been trying my hardest to get a copy of
this book in Blake Shelton's hands, oh, because I would
love for him to see this and then to follow
Jake's life after his adoption. I would like to be
(05:14):
able to write Jake's concert, Jake's telephone interview, Jake's TV interview,
Jake's life on the ranch, Jake's rew home, and follow it.
But if I could get this book to mister Shelton
and get some tips from him, what it's like on
the road, what it's like to do a video a
music video, what it's like to do I can interweave
(05:35):
it into it right. But I have so many things
that I would like to follow the story of Betty Shelter,
which is the shelter in my book that she sees
the success so that this particular adoption had that now
she's going to try and pair up her other cats
in her shelter with more superstars.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Ah. I love that.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
That's really good, and then just follow it that way.
But I would love to That's my biggest thing I've
been trying to do is just to get this book
in his.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Hand to Blake's right, No, of course not. It's a
difficult thing. But you never know. Hey, you never know.
Somebody could be listening right now. Who knows someone who
knows someone who knows someone.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
You never know, right, I mean, I could send it
to his bar or his restaurant, but there's no guarantee that.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
He'll get it exactly. That's true. That's true. Well, you
never know. Maybe someone's listening right now and they'll be
able to pass it on and get the information to you.
And if that, if they do, they can get in
touch with me, and I can get in touch with you.
But I like the fact that you already have other ideas,
you know, like that is your your that's your like
pie in the sky dream of Blake Shelton. But I
(06:41):
think because you have so many other ideas, you can
actually and you probably are already jotting notes and getting
your thoughts together for the next one.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
So many notes for the next one. I would love
to find a publisher that I can work with to
help me get these books out a little bit faster
than I do. Sure, sure, I am working to get
these books out. I am doing a book festival in
November right here in my town. Oh great, you know,
but if I was to be able to find a
publisher that says, hey, you know, this is an untapped
(07:10):
pain that we can do.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Sure, well, again, you never ever know. Right now, if
somebody wants to buy the book, where can they buy it?
Speaker 1 (07:16):
It is available on Amazon dot com, m h. It
is on Barnes Andnoble dot com. Okay, it is av iTunes.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
There's the regular book that you could purchase, and there
is an ebook. But like I have said in any
posts I've done, if you buy a book, get in
touch with me. If you mail it to me, I'll
sign it and send it right on back to you
so that they can sign copy.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Well, that's wonderful, all right, well, Beth, it's great talking
to you, Beth Evans with Jake the Country Cat. I
look forward to I'm sure it's only a matter of
time we'll be talking again about your follow up and
your follow up.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Well, if I get another follow up and follow up,
I will make a plan on getting them to you
so that you can have a full set of them.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Look at you, you are the best. Well, thank you,
thank you so much, Thanks for all your time, and
I love the book. Thank you, thank you so much, Marie.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
It's been a pleasure talking with you.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
