Luke Combs joins #MostRequestedLive and talks "Fast Car," being a dad, shotgunnin' beers and giving back to others.

He opens up about songs he listened to growing up, saying "my parents were always listening to anything and everything" and shares how being a dad has affected his songwriting, "definitely have a lot less time to sit around and write songs, I'll tell ya that much!" "When I'm home, I don't really do much else besides making food, changing diapers, rolling around on the floor - that stuff's awesome."
What's on his rider? "Mostly just mixed drinks" but he says he can shotgun a beer in under two seconds -which comes from a "lotta reps."

From the show at Gillette Stadium, where he brought up eight-year-old cancer survivor, Cooper, he shared his view on giving back: "The best part of the job is being able to do stuff for someone else. It's not what I can do for me or what I can buy for myself." "It's how can you make their life better by how lucky you've been able to be."

(00:03):
Ladies and gentlemen. Luccombe sits tochat with Bennett from Most Creek questions.
Hey, what's up, dude,Thanks for hopping on the show. Appreciate
of course, man, thanks forhaving me breaking congratulations on life, the
tour of the Fast Card, beinga dad again. I mean, this
is just unreal fast It's crazy, man. Yes, it's pretty pretty busy,

(00:25):
and when you think about it,it all, you know, stems
from being a five year old kidlistening to records with your father, which
I think so many of us canrelate to. I know I can a
lot of songs bring me back tomy childhood like that. And I'm kind
of curious what other songs you listento with your father, And could there
be future covers like fast Car inyour future? Oh gosh, I don't

(00:47):
know, man, Um, thisone's done pretty well and pretty unexpected,
you know. When I you know, when we went into record it,
I was just doing it, youknow, I just I just love the
song and have been a fan ofit for a long time and have been
covering it ever since I could playever since I could play guitar really and
just felt like doing a doing myown version of it and um, you

(01:10):
know, just just because I loveit, you know, Um, And
I mean things I remember, youknow, listening to my dad Bob seeger
M, Dave Matthews. That wasyou know, that was probably I don't
know when I was more like elevenor twelve, probably gosh, man,
Tom Petty, I mean so manythings, I mean everything, you know.

(01:34):
Um, I mean I definitely wouldn'trule out doing a cover again at
some point. Obviously this one's beenbeen well received, so um. But
yeah, man, I mean myparents were just always listening to music in
the house, you know, anyand everything. You know, there was
kind of no line of what theywould or wouldn't listen to. Yeah,
it's amazing and that stays with youfor life. Obviously, it kind of

(01:57):
shapes you. And I told youand in your musical taste and whatnot.
And uh, and it's so great, like the way fast Car has been
received, Tracy even giving her stampof approval, which is it's just so
nice to see and you know, she was so amazed to be on the
country charts in twenty twenty three, like it's pretty crazy. Yeah, a
really cool moment. And you know, life is just full circle. I
mean, obviously you're a dad nowexpecting baby number two in September, so

(02:20):
congratulations, thank you, thank you. How has being a dad changed you
musically? Has has it affected yourwriting, performing, etc. Yeah?
You know, Um, you definitelyhave a lot less time to sit around
my song, so I'll tell youthat much. Um. But no,
it's it's been. It's been awesome, man, you know. Um,

(02:42):
just kind of you know, he'syou know, just over a year old
now, and so we have anotherone here soon, which is going to
be nuts. Um. But yeah, man, I just really enjoy you
know. It's it's a huge juxtapositionbetween being on the road and be at
home, right Like, for themost part, you know, my wife
and my son stay home just becausehe's so small, you know, the
routine is so important I think forhim, and um, so you know,

(03:07):
when I'm home, I'm just kindof I don't really do much else
besides you know, like you know, making food and changing diapers and you
know, rolling around on the floorand you know that's that that stuff's awesome,
you know. And then you goon the road and you're you know,
selling out back to back nights atthe stadiums. You know, it's
like the justaposition there is pretty insane. But I think, um, I

(03:30):
think it really helps you stay grounded, right, Like you come home and
you know, your kid has noidea that what goes on, you know
when you walk out of the door. You know what I mean, they're
just you know, they just needyou to be there to take care of
them and spend time with them andlove them and so um, that's really
cool, man. It's a reallycool, uh, really cool and pretty

(03:53):
drastic difference. Yeah, it's amazing. One night you're changing a poopy diaper
and next night you're you know,in front of a sould down stadium.
It's just for sure, that's definitelywild. For sure, it's unreal.
I was curious, you know, since this is like such a massive,
massive worldwide tour forty shows, right, I mean, what's what's on your

(04:14):
rider? What do you need tomake it feel maybe a little bit like
home and connected? Oh gosh, man? Um, mostly just I mean
mostly just mixed drinks, you know. I mean, like our riders like
mixers. You know, it's kindof like diet code, you know,
club soda, sprite. Um,I mean, we carry our own catering.

(04:35):
So we eat good, as youcan probably tell um. But you
know, I mean we we don'tyou know, we go play golf,
which is pretty fun. You know, nothing, nothing crazy, man,
you know, I mean we Idon't know, a lot of times we
bring most of the stuff we need, you know, I think, right,
well, yeah, I think rider. You know something, well,
I think people for tend to forgetthat they still pay for that stuff.

(05:00):
They're like, man, oh Iget to this and this and this,
it's like, well, no,you you're still paying for it, but
somebody just goes and gets it foryou, you know, right right right,
yeah, I think people tend toforget that sometimes. Now, what
is the shotgunning the beer happening beforeor after the show or both? During
during the show, during the show, all of it, all the about
happening yep, during the show iswhen that's happened. What was the record

(05:24):
time for you? Do do youhave like a oh, it's under under
two seconds for sure? Yeah, under two is probably the record. Yeah,
somewhere to it or just just morereps, just just drinking a lot
in college, you know a lotof you know, I've failed out of
college pretty much, so if thattelling anything saying I'm with you. Yeah.

(05:47):
Hey, So a lot of alot of concerts have been popping up
in the news. People you know, fans throwing some some fun stuff up
on stage. The weirdest thing someoneis thrown up on stage for you,
uh, the weirdest thing they're thrownon stage. Gosh, nothing like smega

(06:08):
weird, you know. Um,I've signed it, you know, signed
a few prosthetics which was interesting.Um, you know, but nothing,
nothing's really made it, you know. I mean you get your brawls and
you know, you're all that kindof stuff. Um, but nothing weird,
you know, that's Weird's gotting thrownup there yet. For sure.

(06:29):
I've been hit with stuff, youknow, drinks, stuff like that,
you know, like everybody else. But prosthetics. That's up there though.
Prosthetics is up there for sure. One of the sweetest moments we saw eight
year old Cooper, who's you know, uh, just survived cancer, right
battling leukemia. What a what asweet moment that was. That's what it's

(06:51):
all about, right, yeah, man, it was. It was you
know, it was pretty organic too, right, Like I I met him
in um my meet and greet forthe show, and um, you know,
it was kind of like, hey, you're gonna you're gonna meet him.
And here he comes around the cornerand he was like, hey,
can I sing with you tonight onon this song? And I was like,

(07:11):
sure, pals, we'll figure itout, you know, figure out
how it works. And um,you know, so that stuff's always always
um, always fun. Man.It's always so cool to get to do
something like that, especially especially forfor the kids. Man, you know.
Um, and he was just he'sa little overwhelmed out there. Um,
but man, we we had agood time and I think I think

(07:32):
he really enjoyed it. And it'sjust really neat you know. I think
that's the thing that you know,it's the best part of the job,
right, it's to be able todo stuff for for someone else. Right.
It's not what I can do forme or what I can buy for
myself, for my you know, family, it's like what can I do
for you know somebody like that?So for for you know, a fan

(07:55):
that it's their first concert, oryou know, somebody that's going through a
tough time, like how can youmake their life better? But how lucky
you've been able to be. Ithink that is you know, that's the
that's the real blessing, right andwhat we get to do that's just incredible.
And you know, just how youhave those memories that you have forever.
I mean, this is something thatCooper will have forever as well,

(08:16):
and they'll stay for a lifetime. So just appreciate your time and uh and
catching up with us a little bit. Congratulations on everything. I'm appreciable again
the tour fast cards, but we'llsee out there on the road. Awesome,
thanks Benn, I really appreciate yourtime. Man,
