continuation of the first period that wesaw against Vegas and against the Winnipeg Jets,
right Like, there wasn't a wholelot of much happening. Like they
didn't look as bad as they didin the first period. They had some
good chances, but it just itwas almost like the Kraken were stuck in

second year. They finally got itgoing in the second period, but they
still were not able to generate enough. They weren't able to execute on a
lot of areas that would lead tosuccess. And as the game went on,
you know, the Capitals coming offof a seven to two loss in
Edmonton two nights ago, that gamewas right for the picking. If you

were Seattle right, you have anopportunity to put a team back, put
a team down and behind you.And in those situations, the longer that
games stay scoreless, or the longerthat game is one nothing, one one,
whatever the case may be, itfavors the road team in game two
of a back to back, andthe Kraken made a couple of mistakes last

night. Both of them ended upin the back of your debt. I
like what Dave Axtall said last night, We're not going to put that on
Joey Decord. Yeah, you knowhe didn't make the one blunder there,
but listen, I mean, JoeyDecord. We talked so much about how
playing the puck is his strength,you know, and and you're gonna have
one or two of those odd mistakesevery now and again. But I think

last night was was just a fullteam a lapse, if you will,
I mean it was a little sloppyat times. They couldn't get out of
that second gear and ultimately it costhim. See here's where my thinking goes
with that. And we can makeall we want about the Joey Decord fumble

if you will, and you knowplayers are going to make mistakes, but
ultimately we're not getting down to theheart of the matter, and that is
generating offense here. And I sawplenty of times last night when you mentioned
that whole lal they were in lateperiod one into the second period as well,
just a lot of what I callone and don's I mean, they're

getting the puck into the offensive zoneand it's flushed right back out, or
they get one shot on net andthey can't get to any rebounds, and
well that's that for that trip downthe ice, and that's a part of
it. Now. I loved hearingwhat you were discussing with al Koniski last
and about generating offense and that whenyou pass up shots, you're also passing

up chances here to put the puckinto the back of the net. But
where are you noticing with where they'retrying to put shots on and where they're
coming from I mean, what's thebig difference here with say a shot from
the outside versus a shot in betweenyou know the circles. Well, I
think that this team, historically,and we can go back to year one

or two, and then now inyear three, I think this team is
has a habit of being a littletoo selective when it comes to their shots.
It's almost as if they're trying tofind the perfect shot, the perfect
angle. And I hate to soundlike the guy in the three hundred levels
who's six cores lights in right now, but you gotta shoot the buck,

(09:20):
right, I mean, and Ihate that guy. I hate that guy
who always yells shoots on the powerplay. But you know what, you're
missing up opportunities for rebounds. Youknow, Jared McCann a couple of nights
ago, coming down the wing,you know, on his forehand, that
was his shot. He elected thepass and ended up getting broken up.
And I don't want to just pickon him, but there were a number
of opportunities in the last couple ofgames in which Seattle had a high percentage

shot opportunities and they've passed up onthem. So I think that is an
area where I don't know if ifit's individual, I don't know if it's
collective, but the shoot first mentalityneed to have that, and I think
a lot of times, you know, you want to make the fancy pass,
you want to make the spectacular playand the spectacular setup, but sometimes

(10:09):
just putting the puck onto the net, you get a rebound, you send
guys to the front of the cage, crash the net. I mean,
that is how you score goals,especially for a team that's ranking twenty eighth
in the NHL in offense. Lastyear, Seattle, it seemed to flip
flop. You know, this yearyour top ten defensive team and then you
were bottom five, bottom six offensiveteam. Last year you were number two

(10:33):
in the league in offense, numberthree in the league in offense. You
were first in offense five on fivelast year defensive league. Yeah, you
let up a few too many,but you were able to outscore your problems.
This year, you're not seeing alot of that, and I think
it was largely due to the factthat last year's team shot the puck and
that is not something that they wereafraid to do. And I don't see

(10:54):
a lot of that same urgency ona consistent basis when it comes to shoot
at the park and as far aspositionally, as far as situationally. I
mean, listen, if you getto the inside, if you're able to
get into what they call the house, right in the area from the hash
marks to the circles in you know, kind of make a little square there.

(11:15):
I mean, that's the house.If you can get into the house,
you know, that is where yourscoring opportunities increase dramatically. But if
you're being forced to the outside,if you're being forced in the blue lines
around the walls and you're just lobbingputts onto the net, you're not going
to generate as many opportunities as youwould. How much do you believe addressing
the need here for a top linefour it takes care most of this,

(11:41):
if not all of this, Ithink it takes care of a lot of
it. And you know, Ithink I think one of the Cracked's biggest
strengths is the ability to have aa essentially three and a half four headed
monster when it comes to your offense. Right, you've got four second in
lines capable of generating and capable ofscoring. But look, you're coming off

of a season in last year whereyou had thirteen players with career highs and
goals, assists, or points.So counting on more than half your team
every year to have career years,I mean that's not a sustainable bottle.
And if you look around the league, I mean, obviously you take away
your McKinnon, j McDavid's, yourgenerational once in a lifetime talents. Most

(12:26):
teams will have, you know thatthat go to guy right the ringer,
if you will that that when theyneed to take the game over, when
they need a game breaker, youknow you can count on player X,
player Y to be that person.And I think for Seattle because they're so

(12:46):
evenly balanced, because you know,everyone relies on everyone else, there really
isn't that one go to person thatyou can say, hey, we need
a goal. We're going to sendout X and we're gonna eight times out
of ten we're gonna get that goal. Right in Edmonton, you can load
up McDavid, and you can loadup dry Stiles, and you've got Hyman

(13:07):
and Zach and dot came that youcan put on a second line. Right
Toronto, you've got Barner Matthews,you can come back with nielander A lot
of teams around the league have one, two, three, bonafy top six
players that you can put in twentyfive other teams top six forward groups.
The Kraken don't have that luxury.So I'm thinking this season you're gonna have

to go out and address that needfor a skilled, offensively gifted top six
forward, preferably top top one,right, someone you can put on your
top line all eighty two games ofthe season and know that you're gonna get
sixty seventy eighty ninety points out ofthem. Evert fits to you joining us,

though no hope is lost here becausetechnically we're still in it, what is
there to look forward to for therest of this season? I know we
have a lot to look forward beyondit, but what can we look for
from a hope perspective as they moveforward? Well, I mean, listen,

it ain't over till it's over right, right till until you have that
uh, that lowercase E next toyour name in the newspaper, you know,
the the eliminated. I love thatyou referenced a newspaper. I love
it, Hey, that one ofmy favorite pastimes as a kid, opening
up the the Troy Free Press andreading box scores and yeah, New York

for me, I love it soyeah. But until you see that little
e there, you're still always init. But I think right now you're
you're you're shifting towards Hey, we'renot going to give up on this season.
Whatever happens, regardless of where wefinish, we still have seventeen games
off to play. We still we'regoing to to go out kicking. It's

for me, right, and youknow you still can get some help that
it's it's five percent according to moneyPuck if you believe in follow the analytics
and all that stuff. But youknow you can have an opportunity now to
play spoiler right, You've got uhNashville, and you've got a couple of
games left with the King's. You'vegot too of Dallas, Winnipeg still in

them in a SODA's still in there. So you have a lot of teams
that you're playing that are still infights for playoff spots. And I think
for right now, if you're Seattle, you can't hang your head. You
can't give up, no matter howdaunting it may be. And I know

I mean. But but that thatis what that is what you're you're playing
for right now, because I thinkafter for for all that happened this year,
with all the injury issues that you'vehad, for all of of the
success that we've seen, the JoeyDecord's uh story, his career, you

streak, right, for all ofthe positives that we saw from this team.
You don't want to go out inyour last seventeen games with a thunderous
thud. Right, You want togo into the off season on a high
note. You want to carry somemomentum into the offseason. Hey, this
is what we have. We knowthat there's going to be some changes in

the offseason. We know that afew guys who are here this year probably
won't be back next year. Butyou know what, that's okay. Look
at what we did in the finalyou know, twenty games of the year,
we were able to win more thanwe lost. We made it exciting.
We gave the fans something to getbehind. Because the last thing you
want to do is go into theoffseason on a ten game slide or only

having won four of your last seventeenor whatever it is. You want to
really inspire that hope for the summer, get the excitement building for the summer
into the to the draft, todevelopment camp, and then when September comes
along, after Labor Day you're kickingoff your training camp. You can say,
hey, not the way we wantedto end the season, but look

how we ended the season. Wedidn't give up. We were right there
until the final week of the season, and now we can use that as
a springboard into twenty twenty four totwenty five. He's one goal away from
twenty in the American Hockey League,as we call the Triple A of the
National Hockey League. First round draftpick from two years ago, that's Shane
Wright. So when do you thinkwe'll see Shane right next? Everetton.

You know, I've been going backand forth with this because do you do
what the Kraken did with Matt eVeniers right his first season? You brought
him up in the last ten gamesof the year, See what he can
do. Uh. You know,there's that train of thought, but also
too I mean, Shane Wright playedin the NHL last season, so it's
not like this would be his firsttaste of the NHL. He's having success

the Coachella Valley Firebirds are getting setto go on another what should be lengthy
playoff run. I would leave himdown there, right, I would leave
him down there, Let him gothrough the playoffs, let him get to
another final, maybe, let himwin a championship, maybe down in the
American Hockey League, and then youbring him up, knowing him the kind
of player that he is, thekind of worker that he is. He's

probably going to alex to come todevelopment camp in the summertime, and then
you have him penciled in in yourlineup next year. He's gonna start in
Seattle next season. So why notlet him get every last ounce of confidence
of offense of play that he canget in the American Hockey League where he's

comfortable, and then we start witha clean slate next season in the NHL.
So I've got no issue with RonFrancis and the rest of the management
group if they decide to go thatroute, leaving Shane down in California,
and then we'll see here in Septemberwith the plan of hey, okay,
now you're here for good. Let'ssee what you're made up. Hey,

last question before we cut you loosehere. I know that you're pretty giddy
about your Lions, Dan Campbell GMBrad Holmes signing their extensions here through twenty
twenty seven. So the Lions winthe Super Bowl in the next five years,
yes or no? Yes they do. If Dan Campbell is limited to
how many fourth downs per game?You know, for a seventeen game regular

season, maybe you're only allowed thirtyfourth downs. And in the playoffs,
I don't think you're allowed any ifyou're inside you know, if you're outside

Steve Young, Brett Farv, MattHasselbeck, and to be able to

to bridge that question to someone who'snow doing what he used to do years

sides of Jetfish and Mike McDonald.I believe that we have never heard before.
I agree, And there's a lotof trust that comes with that too,
because as young as both of themare, I mean, Mike McDonald
is definitely younger than Jetfish, butJetfish hasn't been in this specific environment before

Mike McDonald though, just listening tohim, and he was so respectful,
and he respectfully dodged some questions thatwere throwing a question for one, oh,
he literally couldn't answer it. Idon't even judge him for that,
but just listening to the way thatthey were speaking there talking to coach,

and you know, this guy isthe age where he could have been playing
for a coach at that time ifhe was an NFL player, And I
do love there. I have thisinsane curiosity if you couldn't tell, because
I'm annoying, very curious about someonewho didn't play beyond you know, high

school in Mike McDonald. I'm socurious in the way that his mind worked
because I worked for eight years withMike Leach, who did not play a
lick of football but viewed it aschess. And I don't I'm not putting
them in the same category. I'mjust saying that I love I'm so curious

as to the way he views thegame because it's so different than what we've
seen before, especially at such ayoung age. So I think that we
are in for such an exciting ridewhen it comes to the Seahawks six to
seven pm tonight, and again we'llhear the conversations that coach Mike Holmgrin had
with Jedfish now the Huskies and MikeMcDonald now with the Seattle Seahawks as head

coach. Twenty second rank Couger's againinto the semi finals last night, they
went over tenth seeded Stanford. Weknow the Cougars are going to make the
NCAA tournament. It's a foregone conclusionhere at this point. But the difference
between winning this thing and or Ishould say, losing in the semis versus

Like I just think that and wehad we had a national analyst on a
couple of weeks ago when I wason Ian Show. And what Kyle Smith
has brought to this team was unitythat wasn't what was there before. They

talent, it's how to drive forwardwith it. Kyle Smith brought the unity
that was lacking, and sometimes it'shard to even notice if that even is
a detriment, if that is lacking, you know, everyone's playing hard,

everyone's playing for each other. KyleSmith brought a different element, and I
think that he's the element that theyneeded to go exactly where they're going.
And maybe they got caught up.They heard some noise before that U Doo
game. Okay, but they werestill not going to win the Pac twelve
because Arizona just did Arizona and that'sokay, even though they got the best

of them earlier in the year.I would just say that unity, unity,
and Kyle Smith brought that to thisteam. So that is what will
be the biggest element in this game. I love what they put together.
I love watching Miles Rice play.I love watching Jalen Wells play. And
it's important thought that Rice had aclean game and that's and that win last

night six rebounds and six assists aswell. But again, this is a
team that I said three weeks agothat they can outperform mistakes usually. They
couldn't do it against the Huskies,and we all saw what happened. They
shot horribly that game. That's thatwas fine in the first half. That
was just not their game and it'snot the way they play, and you
know the noise gone to him atleast in my head, or they just

had a bad game. They hada big game for whatever reasons you want
to say. That's not their team. They're better than that, and I
know they will continue to play betterthan this. So I like their chances
that they can play a clean gameis again. They'll be into the semi

side, my man college or Ishould say high school classmate, Casey Jacobson,
